Your guide to Boreen Point

All About Boreen Point

Boreen Point is a quiet village on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast about two hours north of Brisbane and just 30 minutes from the popular beachside town of Noosa Heads. It is considered to be the gateway to the upper Noosa River, the Noosa Everglades, and Great Sandy National Park. Boreen Point sits on Lake Cootharaba — Queensland’s largest natural saltwater lake at 10 kilometres long and five kilometres wide. The lake is shallow and calm, making it ideal for sailing, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, and swimmers of all abilities. The area is also a haven for local native wildlife, including koalas, laughing kookaburras, and striated herons.

Boreen Point is a great base for exploring the striking Noosa Everglades in the upper regions of the Noosa River — one of only two everglades systems on the planet. Known as the River of Mirrors because of the crystal-clear reflections in the water, the Noosa Everglades is a 60-kilometre stretch of narrow waterways, surrounded by kauri pine and climbing panax, and other native flora. This area is also known as a bird lover’s paradise, hosting more than 40 percent of Australia’s bird species.

The best time to stay in a holiday rental in Boreen Point

The most pleasant time to be in Boreen Point is during the spring and autumn months when the days are warm and sunny and the humidity isn’t as high, providing the perfect conditions for sailing around the coast. In May, foodies descend on nearby Noosa for the Noosa Food & Wine Festival — a celebration of Australia’s food, wine, and laid-back lifestyle. In October, the annual Floating Land art event offers temporary art installations all over the region. In summer, you can expect long, warm days and balmy nights perfect for getting out on the water, but make sure you pack sunscreen and a hat, as conditions can get very hot and humid. Even winter in Boreen Point is pleasant, with mostly crisp, sunny days and milder nights.

Top things to do in Boreen Point

The Noosa Everglades

The Noosa Everglades is a unique and untouched environment, and one of Australia’s most diverse ecosystems. It stretches across two UNESCO Biosphere Reserves, and is the only everglades system in the world where you can safely swim. The best way to explore it is on a boat tour or a self-guided kayak trip, and kayaks can be hired in Boreen Point. There are also areas that can be accessed on foot.

Laguna Lookout

Take the short drive to Laguna Lookout where you will be treated to incredible panoramic views, from the stunning Noosa River across to Noosa Main Beach and the North Shore, Noosaville, and the pretty town of Tewantin. The views are spectacular at any time of day, but a visit at sunset will be rewarded with the sun covering Noosa in a soft, golden glow.

Noosa Heads

A 30-minute drive away lies the famous town of Noosa Heads, where those in the know come to eat, drink, shop, and play. Buzzing Hastings Street is lined with eateries and bars with breathtaking views of the ocean, as well as fashion boutiques, surf shops, and galleries. The iconic Noosa Main Beach is patrolled daily, making it perfect for swimmers of all abilities, and, a little further along, you’ll find riverfront restaurants and bars in Noosa Sound.
