Your guide to Bingin Beach

All About Bingin Beach

Home to a renowned and demanding surf break, Bali’s Bingin Beach attracts wave riders from all over the world. The beach is situated along the western coastline of the Bukit Peninsula in Uluwatu, which is in South Bali. Once a secret break known only to locals, it’s now a sought-after surfing spot for those skilled enough to handle the steep take-off and reef below. But it’s not just the world-class waves that make Bingin Beach so appealing. It’s also a tranquil place to soak up some beach time, or while away the hours in many of the relaxed restaurants and bars dotting the beachfront. If the surf isn’t pumping, you can always head south to discover secluded beaches nearby, take a yoga class, or soak up the tranquillity of this small town. And you don’t have to travel with your own board. There are plenty of surf shacks with a selection of boards for hire — and it’s possible to have lessons in the right conditions.

The best time to stay in a holiday rental in Bingin Beach

The best time to visit Bali is generally the dry season, which runs from April to October. However, temperatures in Bali don’t fluctuate much throughout the year, so if you don’t mind a little rain — and many surfers don’t — the rainy season can be a great time to visit too. If you’re keen to surf, the break at Bingin Beach works best when the wind is offshore from the east. Mid-morning is often the nicest and best time to enjoy the waves. Bingin Beach is also west-facing which means it’s a lovely spot to watch the sunset in Bali.

Top things to do in Bingin Beach

Surf

You don’t have to be a pro surfer to enjoy the break at Bingin Beach, and depending on the conditions, there is something for everyone. Advanced surfers prepared to surf over the reef in low tide are often rewarded with perfect barrelling waves. Intermediate surfers can also enjoy the mid-tide conditions, and beginners should opt for high tide when the reef is deeper underwater.

Explore along the coastline

If you’re taking a day off surfing, or are simply at Bingin Beach to soak up the relaxed beach atmosphere, you can head south along the sand to find smaller, secluded beaches. If you want to venture further afield, you’re also a relatively short drive to other famous surfing destinations including Padang-Padang, Uluwatu, and Impossibles Beach.

Dine on the beachfront

If eating fresh barbecued seafood with sand under your toes is your thing, there are plenty of options on the Bingin Beach beachfront, which is also a great place to enjoy the sunset. There are also plenty of other relaxed, locally-owned restaurants (or warungs) in and around Bingin, serving great food for all tastes and budgets, as well as live music.
