Laytown has a beautiful clean sandy beach that stretches for miles. My house is a 3minute walk from the train station, bringing you to Dublin City Centre in 53minutes. Laytown is also a great location for those driving to Belfast (90minutes driving or 1hr45mins on the train). Golfers will enjoy the local golf course. Nearby attractions include prehistoric monument Newgrange, Hill of Tara, Tayto Park, Trim Castle, Bective Abbey, Battle of the Boyne site, the National Ecology Centre and Skerries Mills. Dublin is less than an hour's commute from Laytown...there you can visit the Guinness Storehouse, Book of Kells, Trinity College, St. Stephens Green, Jameson Distillery, Grafton Street and the Leprechaun Museum! Dublin also boasts many theatres, museums and concert venues. Free on-street parking is available for guests right in front of the property.
If you drive an electric vehicle, you can charge your battery for free at the public charge point in nearby Bettystown! Buses and trains pass regularly through the village and can bring you to Dublin City Centre (53mins), Belfast 1hr45mins) or Drogheda (6mins). There isn't a direct bus/train service from the airport to Laytown: public transport takes an hour (depending on time of day!) and involves one changeover (take bus 33 from the airport to "Rush & Lusk" train station, then the train from Rush & Lusk to Laytown). If taking a taxi from the airport, the fare is approx. €55. I can pre-book this for guests if they wish. Bus and train timetables are left in your bedroom as is the WiFi code.
I will leave some groceries in your room for a continental breakfast (tea, coffee, cereal, milk, juice, yogurts croissants & fruit).

Entire home/apt in Baltray
Lane House is a 3-bedroom (once thatched!) 300+ year-old cottage located in the idyllic seaside hamlet of Baltray. Lovingly renovated, it has every modern convenience but retains the old world charm that made us fall in love with it!(URL HIDDEN)
WHAT WE LOVE ABOUT BALTRAY VILLAGE:
* GOLF! Baltray is one of the best places in Ireland to play golf. County Louth Golf Club has previously hosted the Irish Open and is one of the finest links golf courses in Europe. If you also want a bit of variety, only a couple of minutes drive away is a second golf course, Sea Point.
* You can walk from the house to the beach (a wild, untamed, beautiful beach) in about 10 minutes...
* If you walk along the beach to the right you will come to the mouth of the Boyne River, where it meets the sea. The river is the main artery of the whole Boyne Valley (and it's also apparently great for fishing)....
* The 19th Pub in Baltray village is probably one of the cutest pubs you'll ever see...
* There are lots of great places for a hearty meal nearby... check out the Triple House Restaurant and the Gatehouse Grill just down the road, or you can head into Clogherhead or Drogheda for plenty more high quality dining options....
* The villagers are beautiful people who we have come to know and love.....
* We also love the village doggies, who will run around chasing tennis balls for as long as you will agree to throw them....
* I might have forgotten to mention that there's a bird sanctuary down the road - The Little Tern Conservation Project (for those that are into bird-watching)...
* Last but not least, it's amazing to be so close to a major town (just 8km from Drogheda) and yet feel as if you're in the middle of the countryside - one morning we even woke up to find our big backyard field full of cows! This probably won't happen to you, but if it does, don't be alarmed - the farmer will soon get them out! :)
* Baltray Links Golf Course (18 Holes) / County Louth Golf Club @ 1 minute drive
* Sea Point Golf Course (18 Holes) & Golf Club @ 5 minute drive
*Sea Point Beach @ 5 minute drive (a lovely long open beach to walk, run, swim or collect seashells)
* Beaulieu House @ 2 minute drive (a grand old manor house and gorgeous garden)
* Newgrange and Brú na Bóinne visitor Centre @ 25 minute drive (famous Neolithic (prehistoric) passage tomb and museum)
* Monasterboice @ 20 minute drive (some of the oldest and biggest carved Celtic crosses in Ireland (high crosses) dating from the 10th Century)
* Old Mellifont Abbey @ 20 minute drive (stunning ruins of a 12th Century Cistercian monastery c.1142)
* Clogherhead @ 8 min drive (characteristic seaside village with colorful shopfronts, a great pizza restaurant (La Pizzeria), a few thatched cottages, a nice beach. Trivia: "Captain Lightfoot" starring Rock Hudson was filmed here, you can still see the thatched cottage near the beachfront!
You are spoiled for choice, with a range of yummy dining options within a few minutes drive, including:
* Triple House (Termonfeckin, @ 2 min drive)
* The Gatehouse Grill (@ 2 min drive)
* Baltray Golf Club (5 min walk / 1 min drive)
* Sea Point Golf Club (@ 5 min drive)
* La Pizzeria, Clogherhead (@ 8 min drive)
And many other high quality dining options in Drogheda (@ 10 minutes drive) which are listed in our "House Manual"!
Baltray is approximately 50 minutes drive from Dublin Airport. It's a very simple drive along the motorway. We are happy to provide you with detailed driving instructions after your booking is confirmed if you require.
Parking at the house is no problem, there is parking for multiple cars available either next to or behind the house - you will be shown where to park when you arrive.
Ideally it would be best to have a car to get around during your stay as attractions are fairly spread out, but there is a bus (the 189) which takes about 20 minutes to get you from Baltray into Drogheda (the nearest major town, approx 8km away). The driving time from Baltray to Drogheda by car is about 10 minutes.
If you need to get public transport from the airport, there is a direct bus between Drogheda and the airport (the 100X).
We may also be able to help you with a private transfer to and from the airport if needed - please send us a message to enquire after booking if you would be interested.
There is also a coach service direct from Drogheda town to Dublin city, which costs about 6 Euros each way. The bus company is Matthews ((URL HIDDEN) and the departure point is Georges St, Drogheda.
In the house we will provide you with plenty of general information about the local area, and its restaurants, attractions and amenities. Rory will also have a quick chat to you at the start of your stay and give you more information and ideas about attractions and activities in the area based on your own interests (eg. golfing, family-friendly activities, nature walks, historical sights and tours).
ABOUT THE HOUSE:
Lane House is a 300+ year old traditional Irish cottage which we have lovingly renovated and restored. The cottage was originally thatched, and some of the other cottages in the quaint village of Baltray are still thatched to this day.
The cottage features 3 cosy and comfortable bedrooms and sleeps up to 5 adults:
* Master Bedroom with King Size Bed
* Double Bedroom
* Single Bedroom
Fully equipped with crockery, cutlery, utensils, microwave, oven & cooker, full size fridge & freezer, dishwasher, and washing machine (no dryer).
Spacious bathroom with whirlpool double spa bath, dimmable lighting (for a relaxing spa!), separate shower, and heated towel rack. Beautiful traditional grey slate tiles on the floor.
The generous and comfy 3-seater couch looks towards the large TV (Smart TV so you can watch YouTube, Netflix etc) and we also have a BluRay / DVD player (BYO DVD's and BluRays, we haven't had a chance to build up our own library yet!)
We have tried to get a balance of modern comfort and traditional history in our furnishing and decoration; for example, in the hallway are historic pictures of Drogheda and Termonfeckin which we hope will give a little glimpse into the past of this wonderful area.
Ample free parking is available, either on the grass next to the house, or at the back of the house.
You will have the whole house to yourself, as well as our large backyard and lawn area.
Myself and my husband Pete won't be personally hosting you much of the time as we often have to travel overseas. When we aren't around, Pete's uncle Rory will be your main host and contact. Rory will welcome you and then leave you to your own devices, but he will always be available for any issues or questions you might have during your stay.
