Your guide to Gerringong

All About Gerringong

Gerringong is a small coastal town located around 130 kilometres south of Sydney along the picturesque Pacific Highway. The town’s main landmark is Werri Beach — a long stretch of sand that is set on a spit, bordered by the Werri Gully on one side, and the Pacific Ocean on the other. Patrolled by lifeguards in the summer months, the beach is a haven for swimmers and surfers, with plenty of space for both.

The area is well known for hundreds of ocean-fed rock pools — amongst the most popular is Ourie Pool, at the southern end of Werri Beach. Chiselled into the rock shelf, this waterhole also features a wading pool safe for children to swim in. The Boat Harbour Rock Pool provides a spectacular setting, set amid natural rock foundations, with shimmering views over the headland.

The region is also known for its abundance of fresh produce and is home to local producers of quality wines and ciders.

The best time to stay in a holiday rental in Gerringong

Gerringong is a great place to visit between March and May, and from September through to November, when the days are pleasantly warm and the nights are mild, making these the perfect seasons to enjoy the town’s beaches and natural landscapes. For those who like it hot, the summer months have average temperatures above 25 degrees Celsius — just remember to bring plenty of sunscreen and a hat. In June, the Gerringong Surflife Festival takes place, featuring live music, market stalls, and a surfboard swap meet. Whenever you decide to go, there are many accommodation options in Gerringong for a range of tastes and budgets.

Top things to do in Gerringong

Werri Beach

Take some time to enjoy Werri Beach — the iconic curved bay that Gerringong is best known for, with long stretches of white sand, walking tracks, and a surf pool. The southern end boasts an expanse of rockpools, perfect for exploring and sunbathing. Do as the locals do and enjoy some fresh fish and chips on the beach while you watch the surfers out in the ocean.

Golf at Gerringong

This experience is more than just golf. The local course boasts beautiful views of the sweeping bay — with all 18 holes proving a panoramic view of the ocean. The local course is arguably one of the best spots to golf in the South Coast area — as well as being one of the few places in the world where you will have to give way to surfers cutting across the green to get to the beach on the other side.

Gerringong Markets

Head to the local Gerringong markets on the third Saturday of each month, held in the old Town Hall gardens. The market offers beautiful views of the beach and local farmlands in the background. Browse the stalls to find handmade jewellery, homemade cakes and jams, local art, products made from local wool, and fresh farm-grown produce.
