The simplest summary is to say, read my reviews!
Welcome to my home!
I have a three bedroom house which is in a quiet street, superbly located, in particular for Belconnen - Belconnen is one of the central satellites in Canberra, and is about 15-20 minutes drive to the parliamentary triangle. It is two minutes walk from my house to a direct bus route to Civic (via Belconnen), making it very convenient for either area.
It is also two minutes walk from a park where some Kangaroos come down each evening to feed, so you can take an evening walk and maybe see them! You can also walk easily to the local lake where there are free BBQ's and a range of restaurants along one edge.
My house is solar passive so cool in summer and warm in winter, with instantaneous gas hot water - perfect for enjoying a luxurious candle-lit soak in the deep deep bath, or enjoying the various settings of the multifunction shower.
The backyard is enormous and includes a lovely shaded and paved pergola area for relaxing and enjoying a glass of wine after a long day of exploring Canberra.
Canberra has an incredibly large amount to offer visitors, far more than most people realise. I know a lot of the secret gems of the city which I am happy to share with you, and I usually know the most interesting gigs and exhibitions to visit.
I am musically inclined myself so if you have an instrument, feel free to pull it out, maybe we can play together! I also speak some French, and would be happy to practice with any French speaking guests.
As well as the kitchen/dining/living room area, I have a sort of library/music room where you can curl up with a book if you like, and of course there is the BBQ area outside too! Often I put out a mattress out on the back lawn under the shade of a tree, perfect for a bit of an afternoon siesta.
My house is not a perfectly pristine palace (I own far too many books and have far too many hobbies for that), but it is a happy home where guests can relax and feel like they belong.
The space you can call your own is a comfortable room with a double bed and a large built in wardrobe. The mattress is new for the very best night's sleep, and you can choose between an ergonomic or normal pillow.
There is also a desk if you need a bit of a work/study space, and high speed wifi. While I don't own a TV, I have a good collection of DVDs that guests are welcome to watch on their own computer, and books in a number of languages.
You are welcome to use the kitchen to prepare meals, and depending on the season, I am happy to share my home grown organic veggies with you. My three chooks (Emelda Marcos, Tweedledee and Tweedledum) produce the most delicious eggs around, and you will have the opportunity to meet them if you like - Emelda is very tame and will let you feed her and pet her.
I recently renovated the kitchen, which now boasts two ovens, a microwave, dishwasher and a 5 plate induction stove where you can truly cook up a storm!
I provide tea and coffee for guests at no extra cost - just make your own anytime from the large range of options provided.
If you don't feel like cooking within walking distance are two pizza places (one of them a gourmet pizza shop), a classic takeaway and a Chinese restaurant. This small local shopping centre also has a butcher, a bakery, a supermarket, pharmacy and medical centre.
I guess am a pretty friendly host, and it seems that more often than not I end up feeding my guests - I just can't help myself!
I would describe myself as pretty sociable, but if my guests don't feel like chatting, I won't be upset or offended, and will happily leave you in peace.
My home is in a quite special spot. It is tucked away in a small suburb with only a few streets on it, so is very peaceful and safe. There is a creek and park only metres away, kangaroos that feed in the park across the way, and Ginninderra lake with barbecues and other amenities within short walking distance. Many guests are amazed at how this area manages to be so central and yet so quiet.
There is a bus stop 2 minutes walk away, with buses that go into Belconnen and then directly on to Civic, so public transport is a breeze.
There is plenty of space to park your car.
To keep costs down I don't include breakfast in my room price. However, as some guests would rather not have to bring their own:
For $3 per person I will provide you with a choice of cereals, milk and juice to make your own continental breakfast each morning.
For $5 per person you will get the above breakfast option plus a loaf of home cooked bread timed to be ready at the time of your choosing, with a range of home made jams and other spreads.
Just let me know your breakfast preferences when you book.
Robyn is very nice and has a warm heart. She made us feel welcome and comfortable at her place. We like to talk to Robyn as she is a smart and thoughtful lady. The room is small but comfy and we love the real free range eggs. Thanks, Robyn.
Robyn was a friendly and hospitable host. The room was plain, fairly small, but at the front of the house near the door so easy to access. It was about 20 minutes or so from the centre of Canberra (depending on the time of day and the route you take--a GPS is very helpful). Good value for Canberra.
Robyn is a lovely, heart opened an friendly host. We were a little bit in trouble in catching the right bus, so Robyn picked us up. We were really happy about it!
We enjoyed our stay and the delicious tomatobread.
It was a pleasure to stay at her house and we loved to feed her three chicken in the backyard.
Thank you Robyn :)
Robyn and her partner were excellent hosts and made us feel welcome from when we first stepped through the door. The room was small but comfy and the open kitchen facilities and giant bath tub were both big pluses.
I arranged for two of my friends to stay with Robyn when we were in Canberra for a conference at the AIS. The location is perfect, 20 seconds from Ginninderra Drive and ~20 minutes to the city.
Robyn was really trustworthy, friendly and warm. Her garden looks great and her chooks were pretty cute. I would return myself one day!
Robyn and her partner live a short drive (20min.) out of Canberra and have a lot of space with a big garden and their own chickens. Robyn was very helpful during our stay, she gave us a lot of good information and tips of what to do in the city and which places are interesting to see apart from the common tourist spots. The room was clean and we also got some cake in the morning which was great!
Robyn was a great host!!!! Walked up her path to an operatic performance and then cooked an amazing meal on our first night. I felt at home right away. The room had everything we needed and the bathroom was great. The house is under renovation so didn't quite match the pictures, this didn't ruin our stay though.
Thanks for having us Robyn
Robyn was an awesome host, friendly and caring. Even fed us cake I'm the morning!
Robyn was a very nice, friendly and funny host. She was very helpful and showed us a lot of nice places in Canberra. We have to say thank you for the fun time and this wonderful evening. We highly recommend and hope to see her again.
Our stay there exceeded all expectations. Robyn was extremely helpful, funny and smart (she does translations, sews medieval clothing and costumes, make crafts and play instruments). She took us for a walk.. showed us the city.. we cooked together.. we met her parents...
The room was very nice and was recently painted. The whole house was very clean and well organized, also there is a great backyard. She has chickens (we could feed them). Plus, there are kangaroos very close to the residence (2 minutes walking). At night you can watch the stars in the sky. I definitely recommend it, no matter the distance from the city "center" (about 30 minutes by bus) because it is worth and is excellent. Unique and exciting experience. Amazing. Thanks
