About this listing
The simplest summary is to say, read my reviews!
Mine is a friendly and happy home convenient to public transport, the Universities and the city centre.
Welcome to my home!
I have available a cosy room with a double bed with a lovely northern aspect, overlooking the paved pergola area. It is private and sunny and in fact has the nicest aspect of all the bedrooms in the house. You will be sharing the room with my fabric stash, but I promise it doesn't bite!
There is room in the wardrobe to hang up a few things, and low stools to sit your suitcase on.
The room has a powerboard with three spare spaces, and if you need it, I can lend you international power plug converters for most country plugs.
There is a small beside set of drawers - the top two drawers are empty for you to use, and the bottom drawer contains a hot water bottle and information about local sights.
You will be provided with a fresh towel. If you forget your toothbrush or any other toiletry needs, please just ask.
I have a three bedroom house which is in a quiet street, superbly located, in particular for Belconnen - Belconnen is one of the central satellites in Canberra, and is about 15-20 minutes drive to the parliamentary triangle. It is two minutes walk from my house to a direct bus route to Civic (via Belconnen), making it very convenient for either area.
It is also two minutes walk from a park where some Kangaroos come down each evening to feed, so you can take an evening walk and maybe see them! You can also walk easily to the local lake where there are free BBQ's and a range of restaurants along one edge.
My house is solar passive so cool in summer and warm in winter, with instantaneous gas hot water - perfect for enjoying a luxurious candle-lit soak in the deep deep bath, or enjoying the various settings of the multifunction shower.
The backyard is enormous and includes a shaded and paved pergola area for relaxing and enjoying a glass of wine after a long day of exploring Canberra.
Canberra has an incredibly large amount to offer visitors, far more than most people realise. I know a lot of the secret gems of the city which I am happy to share with you, and I usually know the most interesting gigs and exhibitions to visit.
I am musically inclined myself so if you have an instrument, feel free to pull it out, maybe we can play together! I also speak some French, and would be happy to practice with any French speaking guests.
My house is not a perfectly pristine palace (I own far too many books and have far too many hobbies for that), but it is a happy home where guests can relax and feel like they belong.
While I don't own a TV as such, I have a projector and a large collection of DVDs that guests are welcome to watch on their own computer or on the projector, and books in a number of languages.
You are welcome to use the kitchen to prepare meals, and depending on the season, I am happy to share any veggies from my garden with you. My three chooks (Emelda Marcos, Tweedledee and Tweedledum) produce the most delicious eggs around, and you will have the opportunity to meet them if you like - Emelda is very tame and will let you feed her and pet her.
I recently renovated the kitchen, which now boasts two ovens, a microwave, dishwasher and a 5 plate induction stove where you can truly cook up a storm!
I provide tea and coffee for guests at no extra cost - just make your own anytime from the large range of options provided.
If you don't feel like cooking within walking distance is a pizza place, a classic takeaway and a Chinese restaurant. This small local shopping centre also has a butcher, a bakery, a supermarket, pharmacy and medical centre.
Interaction with Guests
I guess am a pretty friendly host, and it seems that more often than not I end up feeding my guests - I just can't help myself!
I would describe myself as pretty sociable, but if my guests don't feel like chatting, I won't be upset or offended, and will happily leave you in peace.
I am often out and about in the evenings, so guests will quite often have the house to themselves.
My home is in a quite special spot. It is tucked away in a small suburb with only a few streets in this part of the suburb, so is very peaceful and safe. There is a creek and park only metres away, kangaroos that feed in the park across the way, and Ginninderra lake with barbecues and other amenities within short walking distance. Many guests are amazed at how this area manages to be so central and yet so quiet.
There is a bus stop 2 minutes walk away, with buses that go into Belconnen and then directly on to Civic, so public transport is a breeze.
There is plenty of space to park your car at the front of the house.
Other Things to Note
To keep costs down I don't include breakfast in my room price. However, as some guests would rather not have to bring their own:
For $3 per person I will provide you with a choice of cereals, milk and juice to make your own continental breakfast each morning.
For $5 per person you will get the above breakfast option plus a loaf of home cooked bread timed to be ready at the time of your choosing, with a range of home made jams and other spreads.
Just let me know your breakfast preferences when you book.
Generally, clean up after yourself in shared spaces, but if you can be as messy (not dirty of course) as you like in your own room. I am far from the tidiest person in the world, so am highly unlikely to complain if you leave your coat on the back of a chair in the living room for example.
I am pretty laid back generally - hmm.. I guess I wouldn't be too pleased at outrageously noisy music and drunkeness after 2am.
Smoking inside the house is a definite no-no, but you can smoke outside away from the house.
These handsome kangaroos come down in the evening to feed in the parklands 2 minutes walk from my house
I am quirky, creative and imaginative - I moved back to Australia from overseas only a year ago, and am really loving all the wonderful things that my home country and city have to offer.
I speak French (with poor grammar but much enthusiasm) and love cooking and making music. The thing I love about AirBnB is the opportunity to meet interesting people and hopefully show them that Canberra is an interesting and beautiful city worth getting to know.
