Free-standing, spacious, warm, sunny and private loft/cottage in rural setting and glorious sea-views. The Wine Loft is up a flight of external stairs and can accommodate 6 people in two bedrooms (4 in one and 2 in the other). We offer healthy vegetarian breakfast provisions at $16 per person and you would cook your own breakfast in the kitchen in the Wine Loft. We don't keep breakfast supplies on hand and need to buy these, so please give us at least 36 hours notice.

The space
We are a vineyard in a 12-acre rural setting. We have two cottages, which are free-standing, private, peaceful, spacious, sunny and warm. Both have lovely rural and sea views looking across to Bruny Island. They also have a wood fire and you will arrive to a cosy and warm cottage with the fire already lit on a chilly day.

The Wine Loft, at the bottom of the property, is up an external flight of sandstone stairs and has a large and sunny kitchen/living room area. There are two bedrooms, both with queen beds, while the main bedroom also has a single bed. A further single bed can be set up in the main bedroom and the cottage can therefore accommodate a maximum of six people. There are rural and/or sea-views from all the windows. There is a covered deck, where you can sit and enjoy the sunset with a glass of wine.

The tariff is per couple sharing per night on a self-catering basis. There is an a $40 cost per each additional person, including children over 2. As mentioned, for an extra cost, we will supply generous healthy breakfast provisions, which includes a loaf of our fresh home-made bread. You can enjoy one of our bottles of wine ($30 for the Pinot Noir) in front of the log fire or out on the deck, or the garden. We also supply a range of reasonably-priced dinner and breakfast provisions and snacks for you to cook up a storm, if you feel like eating at home.

Guest access
While we welcome guests to wander around the property, we do ask that you respect our privacy, as well as the privacy of other guests. We all like to enjoy the peace and beauty of our lovely environment.

Other things to note
Please note that we require credit card details upon arrival.

We only provide breakfast provisions UPON REQUEST and require at least 36 hours notice to purchase these.

In summer, there are Tiger snakes about and we ask that you please wear closed shoes should you walk about the property. We also have several beehives, and a small duck pond which is not enclosed, and a creek which borders the property, and guests with children should not allow them to wander about the property unaccompanied.

Location

Kettering, Tasmania, Australia

There are a number of good restaurants in the area. Seawall Cafe and the Oyster Cove Inn are a kilometre away and popular places to have a drink and a meal, while enjoying views of the yachts Kettering marina. Another very popular restaurant is Peppermint Bay in Woodbridge (about 4kms away) which has stunning water views and excellent food (open for dinner Thursday-Saturday). On Fridays and Saturdays, we have a roving pizza van in Kettering that provides very good pizzas.

The Mermaid Cafe (now called Bruny Island Gateway) is a good place to have a meal and coffee, while you wait to catch the ferry to Bruny Island. They are also open in the evening from 4.30 to 9 - their menu is Asian Fusion and their food is good! There is also the Steamhouse, a coffee shop next to our local chocolatier (The Nutpatch).

A little further south, you will find Woodbridge Emporium - delicious cakes and lunches; Grandvewe Cheeses, who make cheeses from sheep's milk (and a gin and vodka from sheep's whey). A couple of kms beyond them is the 3km sculpture trail, which has new sculptures.

And, of course, you're going to want to visit Bruny Island and the Huon Valley. Please contact us for for information.

We have high standards of cleanliness and will be taking extra precautions (additional cleaning and disinfection measures) to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, and to ensure your peace of mind, comfort and safety. We are the owners of Herons Rise Vineyard Accommodation. Russel and Miriam both work as veterinarians, while Helen, Russel's mum, manages the accommodation. Russel and Miriam have one indoor-only cat, a small dog and many chooks, including heritage Araucana chooks that lay delicious blue-shelled eggs. New additions are two Galloway cows named Tracy and Geraldine, and two miniature donkeys, named Tiny Tim and Benjamin Button. The vineyard has 30 year old Pinot Noir - we are looking forward to our first grape harvest, but it's taking a while because we're not using chemicals. We also have a flourishing vegetable garden and orchard and aim to keep all these as pesticide-free as possible. We have lots of beautiful Indian Runner ducks that are loving the duck pond, as well as several disease-free bee hives. The bird life is abundant and the superb fairy wren a favourite frequent visitor. The plovers have nests with well camouflaged eggs in the vineyard - when these hatch, the parents let us know (very loudly!) when they think we are too close to their young. We also have lots of Tasmanian native hens (aka turbo chooks). Wallabies and red-bellied pademelons graze the paddocks at night...and Tasmanian Devils have been seen very close-by. We love the rural feel of Herons Rise Vineyard, as well as the views of the Channel and Bruny Island. And Hobart is an easy 30-minute drive away. We all love the outdoors and travelling, and Tasmania is a fantastic place to do that - the air is clean and the colour of the water is sublime. The people are friendly and the fresh food culture is wonderful.
