Where you’ll be

Yeroskipou, Paphos, Cyprus

The Little White House is located at the entrance of Paphos, 2017 European Capital of Culture together with Aarhus, in the small village of Giroskipou. The central village square with the remarkable Byzantine church Agia Paraskevi with its five domes and the kitchens for the typical sweet "Loukoumi" originating from Giroskipou and popular all over Cyprus, restaurants, bars, the Byzantine and the Folklore Museum is about 1.3 km away. The historical fountain Karo Vrysi in the Sacred Gardens with open air concerts and cultural events and the Sculpture Park are in the immediate vicinity.

There are numerous beaches around the city, the two closest of which, Giroskipou Municipal Beach and Rikkos Beach, can be reached by car in about 6 minutes. The long, gently sloping, wide sandy beaches are protected by breakwaters, have no noticeable currents or disturbing rocks, and are especially suitable for children. Except for a few small beach bars and restaurants, as well as changing rooms, showers and toilets, the beaches are calm and equipped with free parking. In total, Cyprus impresses with more than 60 beaches, which are awarded with the Blue Flag for their high quality.

The modern center of the university town of Paphos is less than 5 km from the Little White House, with numerous stores, restaurants, bars and cafés, inviting you to visit the picturesque alleys of the old town and enjoy a wide view beyond the city to the Mediterranean Sea. About 3 km south in Kato Paphos is the small port including the medieval fortress and the tourist center of the city with numerous hotels, cafes, restaurants and nightlife and the modern King's Avenue Mall.

The entire city of Paphos also represents an impressive collection of ancient sites. Paphos is divided into three main parts: Kato Paphos with its world-famous mosaics, Kouklia with the Temple of Aphrodite, and the Necropolis with the Royal Tombs (Tafoi ton Vasileon). These three sites together form ancient Paphos, which has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

The Paphos region is surrounded by a beautiful coastline, while inland and in the mountainous regions are impressive monasteries and quiet villages whose customs and traditions have been handed down and preserved since time immemorial. Numerous hiking routes open up the Troodos Mountains, about 50 km away, which even have ski slopes around Mount Olympos, the highest mountain on the island at 1952 m.

The two largest cities of Cyprus, Limassol and the capital Nicosia, can be reached in about 50 and 90 minutes respectively and are absolutely recommendable for a day trip.

The gastronomy in Paphos is versatile, Cypriot cuisine is fresh, rich and varied. For those who want to get to know the cuisine of Cyprus, a visit to traditional taverns is highly recommended. Not to be missed are the Mezé.

I am Andreas from Berlin and together with my partner Sophia I renovated the Little White House for us and our guests in the spring and laid out the small orchard with the sun terrace. We tried to preserve the original character of Sophia's Cypriot grandparents' house and thus create a small refuge in order to escape the stress of everyday life under the sun of Cyprus.
