Good location, good internet, nice people, nice apartment. I know others have liked the bed but it was a little hard on my back. No biggie though.

Karin and Frank are great hosts as well as welcoming, generous and well travelled people, who love and care for this lovely part of the world they have made their home. The studio was very clean and they have made a very efficient use of the space to provide all that one would need for a short getaway. Our 6 month old daughter slept like an angel in the gorgeous wooden rocking cot Karin and Frank made available for us. Nothing was too much to ask, with Karin even providing me with what I needed to wash my baby's nappies and clothes. We very much enjoyed the sessonal fruit and vegetables Karin and Frank kindly shared with us from their orchard and veggie garden. We also very much enjoyed their company over a BBQ dinner (as an aside, we highly recommend the Exeter butcher, which produces some very interesting and award-winning sausages). If you are looking for somewhere for a nice meal out when staying here, we recommend Velo Wines in Legana. Thank you Karin and Frank for a lovely relaxing stay!

I can’t say enough good things about our stay with Karin and Frank… When we arrived, Karin took time to show us the studio apartment which is tastefully done and quite spacious. She has put together a manual of all the things you can do (walks, hikes, day trips, wine tours etc.) nearby as well as places to eat, and it’s as comprehensive as it can get. The next day Frank took us around the fruit orchard, and took time to explain the biochar project he’s involved with, all the trees they have planted (some of them being 27 years old!), and letting us pick fruits (the sweetest raspberries and apricots we’ve ever had, no exaggeration). Our 9-month old daughter had a wonderful time playing with their super-friendly dog, Elmo. And to top it all, the place has a wonderful view of the Tamar river, and being away from all the light pollution of the city, we saw more stars in the sky than we’ve ever seen before. What a wonderful way to spend the new year’s eve… Would highly recommend!! -Anushree & Rajat

We booked our parents a trip to Launceston and we couldn't have made a better choice for their accommodation than Karin & Frank's place. My parents came back with glowing stories of how wonderful their stay was. Karin and Frank were so genuinely helpful and friendly to my parents and their reports of the studio were all of cleanliness, comfort and all that they needed. Not to mention to lovely fresh fruit and vege from the gardens! They couldn't stop talking about how beautiful the views were and how peaceful the surrounds were. They loved their stay - thank you Karin and Frank for making their stay so wonderful.

The listing was accurate. We chose the studio apartment largely because of the fantastic view, and it HAS a fantastic view. Upon arrival, Karin and Frank introduced us to their veggie garden, and they gave us fresh raspberries, lettuce, and silverbeet. The neighborhood is rural and quiet. A hazelnut orchard separated us from any neighbors. We liked that.

Karin: 1987 my family and I moved from Germany to this beautiful spot in the Tamar Valley and lived here ever since.
I have travelled extensively throughout Europe, USA, Scandinavia, Africa and Australia and experienced a lot of accommodation places throughout. That’ why I know what a traveller is looking for. We opened our studio apartment to meet lovely people from all over the world and share our little paradise with them.
After 10 years working as an Accounts Officer in the hospitality industry I have now resigned from my job to fully commit myself in our own small business Terra-Preta Developments helping to spread the word about BIOCHAR. I am still working in the accounts and administration, but I also help to produce “Frank’s Char” and promoting it through nurseries and weekend Markets. I believe biochar has got huge potential and will be a growing industry in the future.
In my free time I love spending time with my grandchildren and socializing with family and friends. Also I enjoy gardening, bushwalking, photography, patchwork & quilting, Pilates, dancing, and when time allows I love cooking my own bread & delicious cakes, also preserving our own fruit and vegetables.

Frank: It is now about 30 years when I first visited Tasmania to explore the Island and the potential opportunities to become part of the Community.
I was simply stunned by the vista from the Brady's Lookout Reserve now just up the hill from us. Little did I know that about 2 and a half years later would be move into our new home with plenty of land to grow things and provide the lifestyle with pets and farm animals that our then little children would have to look after.
What a life!
We planted fruit trees as soon as the season allowed us to. Now we have a great mix of stone-fruits such as Cherries, Apricots, Peaches, Plumes, Prunes; then the pip-fruits such as various apples and pears.
The Vegetable Garden is providing many good things apart from the greens, asparagus, also soft fruits such as Raspberries and Strawberries during December and Currants in January.
I have also established a Hazelnut Orchard more than 20 years that now covers nearly one third of the property and the nuts are ready for harvest from about late February.
No chemical spray is used here and no artificial fertilisers.
For the last 8 years I am involved research, production and use of Biochar,
Bio = Greek for life. Using char-(coal) to foster life in soil and water.
I am very active in establishing the understanding of the potential of Biochar in healthy soil development, horticulture, aquaculture and farming. There are very interesting opportunities to be explored with anyone interested in caring for the land, soil health, carbon sequestration and renewable energy from what is still considered organic 'waste', also called 'unloved biomass'.
My professional background is in ecological forest management and training of responsible forest management principles.
My passion is in local community action for a better Tasmania, for short, medium and long term, inter-generational benefit. I am linked up with many organisations that care for the environment and the people across the Island, the Country and other continents.
My love is for Karin, my dear wife of 34 years and the whole family, our children and grandchildren - that keeps me going. Tasmania is home for us.
Since we have opened the apartment I have had the pleasure to meet some fascinating people from around the Country and the World.
