The space

The house is a beautiful retreat for anyone seeking a tranquil escape from city life or other stresses. The house is very much a home with old world charm. There is a beautiful lounge room for those who want to relax with a book or enjoy quiet activities and the large family room provides a space for noisier activities such as TV, music or games. The side verandah and front porch as well as the back BBQ area provide the perfect place for an early breakfast or pre-dinner drink while enjoying the magical rural views.

Guest access

The whole house and grounds are accessible. The studio at the back is not accessible. Neither is the large shed.

Interaction with guests

It depends when you are there. I work overseas three weeks out of six so I may be there living in the back studio or I may be away.
Be assured if I am there that I am happy to help but will certainly keep out of your way if that is what you want.

The neighbourhood

The house is set in a rustic, pristine part of the world which gives an insight into the lives of a family living in the area in the 1930's.

Neighbours are friendly but do enjoy the peace and tranquillity just like it was in over eighty years ago.

Getting around

You will need a car or bikes for this location as buses are infrequent.

House Rules

Please do not bring any pets to the property and do not smoke inside the house. If smoking outside please use the ashtrays provided on the verandah and porch.

The house is a suitable venue for family and friends wanting to explore the area and relax in a beautiful and tranquil location. It is not suitable for large, noisy parties

My whole family including family and friends that visited during our stay enjoyed the experience at Jo's place. Lots of areas inside and out to entertain or be alone, we were lucky enough to have two guests that played the piano that filled the house with beautiful music. Good crockery, bowls and platters for entertaining in style and good quality Manchester with comfortable beds. Jo really looks after her guests we were sad to come to the end o four stay.

Hi Jo, we have had an absolutely fantastic four days in your beautiful home. We felt like we were the lords and ladies of the manor - the home is so spacious, comfortable, well-appointed and surrounded by its own extensive home grounds and adjoining green countryside. We really appreciated your SMS messages ensuring we had everything we needed on arrival, and the little touches like your providing fresh milk, muesli, fruit, various jams and sauces, and plenty of Nespresso coffee pods, and your invitation to "help ourselves to anything in the pantry". We found the gas Weber BBQ (under cover) ideal for our evening meal requirements, along with the well-equipped kitchen. We loved the other luxury five star touches like your huge thick white bath sheets, and the goats milk soap bars, and the beautiful linen on those very comfortable beds. It has occurred to us that your very photogenic home with its extensive grounds would be ideal as a private venue for a family wedding or other gathering, like a book group, maybe. The very large and open living room (separate from the also-large lounge room and dining room) could easily accommodate a musical event, giving the audience a truly sensory experience with the fabulous view out of the huge windows onto the bright green paddocks. The location for us was perfect also, a short commute from Canberra with a convenient lunch spot both ways at Bertie's cafe in Nimmitabel, and only 5 or 6 km back into Bega to pick up our catering supplies. The location also allowed us to take advantage of excellent local restaurants and cafes for lunch, within a reasonable driving range - Mimosa Restaurant on the Tathra to Bermagui Road, and The Cliff cafe in Tathra, and to visit various local galleries, including Narek Gallery, Ivy Hill Gallery, and The Wharf at Tathra. Thank you for allowing us to use your home as if it was our own, and we certainly hope to return. Susan

This place is absolutely stunning. Beautiful, large house located in a lovely green valley in dairy country. Jo was very helpful and welcoming. She was also happy to name good places and activities in the area, and there are many brochures in the house as well. The house has lots of space, a great kitchen and a lovely deck with a bbq. The beach in Tathra is a ten minute drive away, but since a car is needed to get to the house, we were more than happy with this. There are also two beautiful national parks close by, with beaches and walks. We had a lovely stay and will recommend this house to friends or return ourselves soon.

I own a beautiful 1930's double brick home on eleven acres between Bega and Tathra. I love my home because it offers the best of both worlds. The rural location provides a tranquil hideaway but also offers close proximity to the beach at Tathra and to modern facilities in the vibrant country town at Bega. My home is also about five minutes from the new Bega hospital.

There are plenty of living spaces both inside and outside and all bedrooms have reverse cycle air conditioning and heating. All other living rooms have gas heating or wood fires.

The house is available for full rental if required but you can also book a single room. It is the perfect getaway for family reunions or holidays with friends. It is also provides comfortable and convenient accommodation for visiting professionals or those passing through on the way to Melbourne or Sydney.

I am a professional woman who is very busy with my job which often takes me away from home and sometimes overseas. I have worked in the Middle East and Central Asia and love to travel anywhere. I relish swapping travel tales

I enjoy meeting people but definitely am committed to facilitating guests to get on with what they need to do. No long conversations as you are trying to get out the door. In fact I do not live in the main house but live in a studio flat on the property.

I create a relaxed and quiet ambience in my home which is conducive to travelling professionals and holiday makers who value a quiet environment.

Overseas visitors are very welcome. Previous guests have often commented on how comfortable and relaxed they felt staying here.
