A spacious, open plan, self-contained, self-catering studio apartment in a beautiful church conversion, in a quiet semi-rural setting just 8 miles south of the World Heritage city of Bath. It's a perfect romantic getaway for a couple, or a relaxing space for up to four good friends/family. A unique and peaceful place to stay, and a great base for exploring the beautiful Somerset countryside and the South West.

The space

The Studio is in one half of a Grade II listed former Victorian church, artfully transformed into a large and modern, open plan apartment which sleeps 2-4 people. It's quiet and spacious, a perfect space to relax, with everything you need for a comfortable weekend or longer stay.

Even though the building is almost 170 years old, the conversion gives it a light and airy, modern feel whilst retaining some features of the original church. The space was for many years used as a photographic studio where the owners worked together to create images for magazine features, books and advertising.

There's a comfortable king sized bed, plus a double futon which can sleep up to two extra guests, but please note that these are both in the same space so you need to know each other well! You also have your own separate shower room. The lounge area has a Smart tv/dvd player/Netflix/Freeview, free wi-fi, plus a selection of books, DVDs, games and local maps. The kitchen is very well-equipped, with a fridge, freezer, dishwasher, double oven and microwave, and a comfortable dining area. We will welcome you with some basic provisions, including butter, eggs, milk, fruit juice and freshly made bread, cake or cookies.

Underfloor heating will keep your toes warm, and there's a fan heater too. For more chilly days the woodburner stove makes the apartment extra cosy.

We're in a peaceful, semi-rural location just 8 miles south of the beautiful World Heritage City of Bath, and it's a great base for exploring the area.

A visit to the Bath Christmas Market is not to be missed (24 November - 11 December) and after a busy day's festive shopping the studio is a peaceful haven to come home to!

There's a useful information pack in the studio with helpful tips on things to do in the area, including a list of local shops, farm shops and markets, plus details of restaurants and good food pubs if you prefer to eat out.

Guest access

The studio is a completely self-contained, ground floor space with main access to your own front door from the driveway where you can park easily, so you can come and go as you please. The back door leads onto a quiet, sunny patio with your own small private garden.

Interaction with guests

We will welcome you on arrival, then it's up to you - we can leave you to your own devices but we're happy to help or advise if needed.

Other things to note

We have two cats and a dog who live in the adjoining building, but they are excluded from the studio apartment at all times, and quite shy of strangers.

Fantastic space in a converted church, sparkling clean and bright ... and warm. Christine left us bread and cakes, and kindly did some washing for us- she is a wonderful host. We didn't want to leave! Highly recommended.

Absolutely gorgeous place. Super secluded perfect location but easy driving distance to everything you could want. Christine was amazing, friendly and helpful, and thought of everything! The studio itself was spacious, beautifully decorated and immaculate, and there was even a garden we could sit out in. Beautiful property and amazing host - highly recommend.

The location is excellent for exploring the region, the accomodation is exactly as it's described. Nice and quiet and off the beaten path but close enough to get in and out of bath to explore. The apartment comes very comfortable and the host will make sure you ha e a few things to make your stay comfortable. Supermarket is close by if you need provisions. Overall fantastic place to have a quiet spot to rest your head

Christine's place is truly magical. The design has been very well thought out and high end - a real home away from home. It’s very private, with even a little courtyard to have your morning coffee. We didn’t expect a fresh loaf of bread, muffins, eggs, butter and milk to greet us. The log burner made it very cosy for a November stay and the under floor heating is a lovely touch. There’s a great Italian restaurant within two miles and so you aren’t cut off. Just lovely!

Very nice and beautiful restored old church with all comfort you wish. Good base to discover Bath, Bristol, Stonehenge, and the beautiful places Wells, Frome and Bradford on Avon. Also very nice to put on your walking shoes and take a trail around the church... Nice and calm neighbourhood.

I've spent my career writing about food and styling food for photography, so food - or rather, eating - is one of my main interests in life, along with art, music and animals. My husband Don is an artist and photographer, who for many years used the studio as his workplace, and we produced many food books and magazine features there. We have lived and worked here for over 25 years but are both now pretty much retired, enjoying a more relaxed lifestyle.

We're now in our second year of hosting with Airbnb, and we love it. We've welcomed singles, couples, groups of friends and families, and we've been the venue for a marriage proposal, a honeymoon, many romantic weekends and quite a few birthday treats. The studio has also recently been used as a location for the upcoming film 'Prelude'.

Guests have visited from all over the world, including New Zealand, America, China, many parts of Europe, and of course from all over the UK.
We have been very fortunate, and it has been a pleasure to host such diverse and interesting, friendly people. Onwards and upwards!
