Nestled amongst the majestic trees atop the mountain clouds of Mount Tamborine is Wattle Cottage. Soak in the hot tub, delve into a good book and curl up by the crackling fireplace. Put on a vinyl record, pour a glass of local wine. Smell the native blossoms, enjoy the abundant bird life and let your mind be rested, and your heart enriched. Explore bush trails and chase waterfalls. Do everything or nothing, the choice is yours.
The space
Wattle Cottage at Tallowwood Lane is a beautifully restored Queenslander cottage who spent her former life ocean side 5 hours north, was relocated, and now calls Mount Tamborine home. Our cottage will provide you with everything you need for a stay of quiet and calm. Soft luxurious linen, high quality bedding, bubble baths and a wood burning fireplace await to ensure you feel cosy, rested and taken care of.
Panoramic lookouts, millennia old rainforest trees, the exquisite Curtis Falls waterfall, wineries, distilleries, boutique bakeries and cafes, art galleries, glowworm caves and much more are all within a 5 to 10 minute or so short drive. We are far enough away from the centre of town for solitude but still centrally located for you to make the most of your getaway on Tamborine Mountain.
* Winter Temperatures - June, July, August*
The winter months have average lows of 7 degrees and highs of 17 degrees. It can get quite cool up here on the mountain in the winter months, so be sure to bring warm clothing with you for your stay. Our fireplace will keep you snuggly warm. We also have a reverse cycle air conditioner in the lounge room, two portable heaters and hot water bottles to keep you extra toasty if needed.
*Summer Temperatures - December, January and February*
Tamborine Mountain experiences cooler temperatures than the city or on the coast. Our summer months have average lows of 17 degrees and highs of 26 degrees. So our hot tub is still beautiful to enjoy in the late afternoons and evenings even in the summer months. We do have air conditioning in the cottage, as well as ceiling fans in the bedroom and parlour room. In addition there is also a pedestal fan and portable tower fan for your comfort, should you require it.
Mount Tamborine is the perfect place to escape the strong summer heat and enjoy the cooler temperatures the mountain has to offer. We would love to welcome you to our cottage for a refreshing, restorative stay.
*A little note*
If you do have the ability to make your stay a minimum of three nights, we do encourage it. Many of our two night guest stays have mentioned they would have loved to stay longer to enjoy all the cottage and Mount Tamborine has to offer. So if you do the the ability to extend your trip to a minimum of three nights, we would highly recommend it.
Guest access
Wattle Cottage is all yours to utilise, as is the hot tub for your exclusive use whilst you stay (please see important information below regarding use of the hot tub).
We live on the property in a separate dwelling which is located 25 metres across from the cottage. We are a quiet couple (with an indoor ragdoll cat) and will respect your privacy. You may see us around the acreage property tending to the produce we grow and the gardens. Please feel free to say hello and have a chat, we love that. However, we also respect your privacy and there is absolutely no pressure to come and chat whatsoever. We greatly value your need for solitude and respite.
We are located in close proximity to many of the wedding venues situated on Mount Tamborine. The Hampton Estate Winery wedding venue is a short 5 minute walk from our location if you are looking for accommodation and a special place for your honeymoon.
We are proudly an inclusive stay and all guests of any background or community are welcome here into a safe space. Although our stairs and step in bath may limit our ability to host those with limited mobility, we are working to see how we can accommodate guests in the future with better accessibility.
If there is anything you are unsure of, please don't hesitate to ask away.
Other things to note
Please note, Wattle Cottage is not suitable for children or pets due to the delicate nature of its furnishings, the hot tub and style of fencing.
We stock a basic pantry due to our remote nature, which includes: Ground Coffee Beans, Black and Herbal Teas, Salt, Pepper, Dried Herbs, Olive Oil & Balsamic Vinegar. Please pop into a shop for your supplies and milk if you take it! Guests find it hard to leave once they arrive, so we recommend you do this on your way before you arrive. We do however have an IGA Supermarket, bottle shop, Subway, Newsagent only a 5 minute drive away.
The IGA is open until 7pm on weekdays and 6pm on weekends.
There is a beautiful range of cafes, wineries and restaurants to indulge in if you are enjoying a cooking free stay. They are all in close proximity to our cottage. The Hampton Estate Wines Winery and Plantation House Cafe are within walking distance from our property.

The cottage has two different sized cake stands in the kitchen if you are looking to display your culinary masterpiece for your special someone's birthday. However, if baking isn't your forte, the Main Street Bakery or Spice of Life Cafe (only 6 or 7 minutes drive from the cottage) on Tamborine Mountain can assist in the cake baking department.

Reverse-cycle air conditioning for year round comfort. In addition, portable fans and heaters.
*WIFI*
We have options of WIFI and ethernet internet access. Whilst the WIFI is usually great, it can be intermittent at times, so please do note this prior to booking.

We don't have free to air television however a smart television with Netflix and Stan. The record player is Bluetooth compatible, so in addition to our selection of vinyl to enjoy, you can listen to your own digital playlists through the record player. The record player also has radio stations for your enjoyment.
*Board Games and Puzzles*
We have an extensive and interesting selection of board games, jigsaw puzzles, playing cards, trivia cards and a beautifully crafted handmade chess set made from reclaimed silky oak and pine for those quiet afternoons and nights in.
*Bed Linen and Towels*
For your luxury and comfort, we provide quality Sheridan 100% ribbed cotton bath sheets and Kip & Co 100% cotton waffle towels for the hot tub use. The bed will keep you cosy in winter and cool in summer with 100% French Flax Linen sheets. It will also keep you comfortable and sleeping soundly with our hotel grade quilts, mattress protectors and pillow protectors.

* The majority of our guests enjoy the hot tub at sunset
* We will heat the hot tub prior to your arrival which will be ready by 2pm on the day of your check-in.
* Whilst we have designed the hot tub as a late afternoon/evening experience to enjoy, you may utilise the hot tub may be used any time between the hours of 8am and 10pm daily
* The hot tub will be at the most ideal temperature to enjoy between the hours of 4pm to 10pm, however, it will only be a few degrees cooler between the hours of 8am and 4pm if you would prefer to utilise it during the day
The hot tub is fitted with an electric pump, filter and skimmer (the same as a pool would) to keep it as sanitary and clean as possible for your use.
We use natural based minerals to keep the hot tub clean, sanitised and refreshing so you can have complete confidence in your spa experience. The products we use are designed for you to enjoy a healthy and sanitary bathing experience with minimal chemical usage.
*Animals*
*Please note: our neighbours have two beautiful horses and two babydoll sheep which you may see over the bordering fences during your stay. Please do not feed or touch them as they do not belong to us. However, please do enjoy watching them from a safe distance, they're beautiful animals.
*Local Wildlife*
As we live on acreage, we do share the property with various species of bird life, wallabies, possums and gliders. Please refrain from leaving out any food items on the porch overnight as little unwanted visitors may appear.
*Wildlife Rescue and Care"
Tamborine Mountain is home to an abundance of native wildlife. I am a volunteer wildlife rescuer and carer, and as such, I may be called out at an unusual hour in the middle of the night to rescue a native animal that has been critically injured or very sick. It rarely happens any later than 9pm but if it does, I do try to be as quiet as I can while I grab any rescue gear to put in the car and drive out to the animal in need.

My husband David and I are grateful to call Tamborine Mountain home and love sharing our property with others to also enjoy its gifts. We run our own design business and are both are passionate about our natural environment. In my spare time I am a volunteer wildlife rescuer and carer. David’s passion is plants, particularly tree ferns, along with our vegetable gardens and food forest. He volunteers for Native Plants Queensland and Landcare.
