A laid back coastal hideaway with hints of mid century sophistication, Pineapple Pete's offers the perfect setting for a family or friends' get together. Open plan four bedroom house with two master en suited bedrooms, spacious and private backyard with heated pool. Three minutes walk to the world famous Four Mile Beach.
The space
Pineapple Pete's is a contemporary and bespoke Australian beach home in Far North Queensland, Australia, and a 3 minute walk to Four Mile Beach.
It is located in the Solander area and one of most charismatic houses in Port.
The house is the result of a long term renovation and it is full of the things that we love to collect and surround ourselves with. It features 4 air conditioned bedrooms and 4 bathrooms, spacious open plan kitchen, lounge and dining areas, back and front decks running along the full width of the house and a magnificent heated pool.
The property accommodates comfortably a maximum of 8 adults and children are most welcome - we provide all sorts of baby gear, from cot to highchair, Bumbo seat, cot linen, toys, baby bath, bouncer, children's books, pram, Baby Bjorn carrier,etc.
Because of its size it gives everyone plenty of personal space, it is perfect for a family get together, for a group of friends wanting to relax or even for two families who wish to holiday together.
The building is a prime example of open plan tropical living - the lounge area, dining area and over sized kitchen flow onto one another seamlessly, surrounded by hand crafted Queensland Silver Ash doors and windows, providing a frame to the lush tropical native gardens around the property.
The numerous openings and the use of smart glass allow for constant cross ventilation and high energy efficiency, making it surprisingly cool even in the summer months throughout the Wet Season.
The Master Bedroom
The Master Bedroom overlooks the pool and the mass of native trees that grow around the property, especially along the creek that runs alongside it. It is an airy and spacious bedroom, with a king size bed and it opens onto the garden through French doors on one side and bi-fold doors onto its own deck on the other . This bedroom has an en suite bathroom, with free standing stone bath and double timber shower and a generous walk-in robe, with plenty of drawers, bench space and long and short hanging. It has a 40 inch TV, desk, it is air conditioned and has a ceiling fan.
Blackout soft weave and sheer curtains have been installed for privacy.
The Second Master
We call it the second Master because even though it does not have the Master's outlook, walk-in robe or the luxury of the Master's bathroom it is a beautiful, calming and very special room - it has a large wardrobe and en suite bathroom and a quirky and quaint outdoor bathroom with shower, hand basin and claw bath, all in an extremely private and sunny courtyard, with lush plants that make it one of the most special features of Pineapple Pete's.
This bedroom has a ceiling fan, it is air conditioned, has a 32 inch TV and it opens onto the front deck and the stoney garden. Blackout soft weave and sheer curtains have been installed for privacy and for the luxury of sleeping in every now and again.
The Second King
The second king has a king size bed that can be made up as two singles and this bedroom too opens onto the pool and back deck. It has 2 wardrobes, a ceiling fan, air conditioner, 32 inch TV and it is serviced by the bathroom across the breezeway. This bedroom too has full ceiling height blackout and sheer curtains.
The Small bedroom
The small bedroom has two long single beds that can be made up as a King, wardrobe, ceiling fan, air conditioner and elegant casement windows that open onto a little hideaway garden that was our veggie garden once upon a time. It is ideal for children, right beside one of the bathrooms, and very private but can also accommodate a couple quite comfortably. A blackout blind has been fitted to allow for a sleep in.
The kitchen
Peter built a kitchen for people who, like myself, love cooking and love having plenty of space to move around as they do it. It has a generous caesar stone island bench, stainless steel bench tops, a 6 burner gas stove with teppanyaki plate, an extra wide oven (900mm), microwave oven, Smeg toaster and kettle, coffee machine ( Sunbeam Cafe Series), fridge/freezer with filtered water dispenser and ice maker and all the little gadgets that one may need, from scales to stick blender, cup blender, etc, as well as numerous utensils, from muffin trays, crêpe pan to garlic crushers, etc that we will provide so that nothing will hold you back. I am actually a Chef, so you'll find that not much is missing in our kitchen.
The Lounge and Dining
The Lounge and Dining speak with the strongest accent at Pineapple Pete's - a very global one.
This area showcases a myriad of very eclectic artworks from friends, artists from all around, little gems discovered on Saturday morning's Garage Sale hunting, antique shops and with whatever else makes us smile, from family photos to cooking books, old carvings from Papua New Guinea and boats' half models, evoking the family's past history of boat building and sailing.
The lounge area features 3 three seater lounges and a 45inch TV and DVD Player. Right beside it is the dining area - our exquisite homemade dining table sits 8/10 people.
Childrens DVDs, adults series, cds and Bluetooth sound system are all provided and located on the sideboard in the dining area. Netflix also available.
This area of the house opens onto the lawn along the creek, screened by an immaculate canvas of Malaleucas, coconut trees and other native trees.
The outdoors
The back deck is very much an extension of the lounge area inside and it is the one that we use whenever we have a barbecue or when when the weather is just perfect for alfresco dining - it is right next to the BBQ, it sits 10 people quite easily and the dining table is perfectly located right in front of the kitchen's servery. The adjacent outdoor lounges are extremely comfortable and inviting and one of our favourite places to sit back with friends and family.
The pool is Solar Heated in Winter and it is a very social area of the property. It has a wide and shallow step that makes it suited for toddlers to play in and where adults can sit and relax. The counter leaver umbrellas shade good part of the pool deck and the shallow part of the pool.
The front deck is the sunniest sitting area of the house. It gets sun from early morning until sunset and it has a truly low key feel about it. We use it at different times of the day, especially late afternoon, as we keep an eye on the kids playing and greet the neighbours walking their dogs.
Overall Pineapple Pete's is an extremely comfortable home, very eclectic, with a strong taste of Mid-Century and hints of bohemian but with an unquestionable Tropical Australian identity.
Our guests will have access to the entire house.

Solander is, without a doubt, the best place to be in Port. It is far enough from the madness of Macrossan and the northern end of Four Mile and the southern end of Four Mile that tends to be windier and with different currents. Solander is a piece of paradise at your doorstep, and we know that because we live here!
We would recommend hiring a car or even a couple of bicycles but there is a nearby bus stop at Ramada resort or at the QT resort. The bus runs into town every 15/20 minutes.

I will come and meet everyone personally on arrival and hand over the keys to the house.

We are a couple with two young daughters and we have started hosting a few years ago with the intent of having more free time to enjoy each other’s company and to get to know the world around us a little bit better.
A few years on we’re still chasing free time but hosting has truly given us the freedom to be in charge of our choices and our time management. Years on we’ve become co-hosts to a few of our friends properties ; if you’re staying at one of them you’re in good hands :)
We live locally and absolutely love this area so don’t be shy to ask us for tips on dos and don’ts - we’re always happy to brag about our backyard.
