Other things to note
Limousin-Cottage is ideally located for excellent road links to the whole of the beautiful Limousin region, now part of the new super-region of Nouvelle Aquitaine, SW France. Junctions 21 and 22 of the A20 motorway are five minutes away. Limoges is about half an hour via the motorway, and Limoges airport 45 minutes away. There are budget airline flights to Limoges from various UK airports. Limoges is the capital city of the region, renowned for it's quality porcelain production, and is a great place for a day out during your stay. The region is now part of the new super-region of New Aquitaine.
The village is a mile or so along the road from the nearest town, St Sulpice les Feuilles 87160. It is a charming little town with all the facilities necessary for your stay, including a Carrefour Express supermarket, bars, restaurants, boulangeries etc. Just 15 minutes drive away is a larger town, La Souterraine, where you will find a larger choice of supermarkets and facilities, and there is a railway station for fast trains to Paris and to Limoges. Just one mile from the cottage is Lac de Mondon, with an open-air pool in season, a great little bar restaurant overlooking the pool, and some lovely riverside walks through medieval forests. The River Benaize at this point is known as 'Le Pot Bouillante' (The boiling pot) for reasons which become obvious after rainfall! The region is perfect for flea-markets and brocantes, which go on throughout most of the year, and you get to see lots of beautiful little towns and villages that you might otherwise never visit. A bargain-hunters paradise! There is a huge monthly farmers market, on the 29th of the month, all year round, at Les Herolles, which is a 15-20 drive away. It is said to be the biggest market in France and as well as produce, there are all sorts of animals, large and small, for sale. The area is also a fisherman's paradise, with river and lake fishing for all abilities. There is kayaking available along the rivers, watersports, and even micro-lighting and hot air ballooning in the region. You will also find very good golf courses. A must for a visit when in the Limousin is the poignant martyr village of Oradour sur Glane, the site of a massacre during WW2, where 642 villagers lost their lives. The whole village has been left as it was on the day, burned out, and a brand new village constructed nearby. You can walk around the streets of the old village, and there is a visitor centre. The site attracts visitors from all over the World.
The cottage is child-friendly, and we can provide a travel cot, high chair, stair safety gate plus other baby needs at no extra cost. (Please check with us for details) Your well-behaved dog is also welcome. We prefer guests not to smoke inside the cottage, but it is fine outside, either in the garden or in the favourite spot, the little bench in front of the cottage.
From Sep 1 - 30, 2017 the minimum stay is 3 nights.
We are full time residents in France, and have lived in the beautiful Haute Vienne, Limousin, since 2003. Originally from England, we have four grown-up children and eight Grandchildren, who all live in England, and visit France at least once a year.
