Experience old Hawaii in Captain Cook, just above the beach at Honaunau Bay near the City of Refuge. Amazing location! Walk down and snorkel or dive with tropical fish, coral reefs, sea turtles, dolphins, and more. Relax on the lanai, out of the sun and watch dolphins spin in the bay. Honaunau is great place for kayaking, scuba diving, canoeing, paddle boarding, fishing, people watching or sunbathing and we have a boat launch too.
Hawaii Transient Occupancy Tax of 14.146% is required.

The space
Experience old Hawaii in this beautiful, beach house on Honaunau Bay near the City of Refuge. Walk across the street and swim, dive or snorkel, arguably, the nicest bay on the island. Honaunau is great place for kayaking, scuba diving and we have a boat launch. Enjoy the warm water, tropical fish, green sea turtles, dolphins and more. There is no charge for this dolphin show or swim, the dolphins seem to enjoy performing for and around the snorkelers and we can watch them from the lanai! It's pretty amazing to see the babies jumping out of the water. Dolphins and turtles are protected, do not chase or harass them.

Our home is centrally located in South Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii. Just 30 miles south of the airport and Kailua-Kona, out of the big city, but close enough to go for excursions. The closest Harbor is Keauhou, about 20 miles away. Volcano National Park is about 75 miles away and Hilo is just a little over 100. Captain Cook is 10 miles away and it offers, a variety of shopping, and dining options.

Pick up supplies as you come through Kona. This home is in such a great location that you might not want to drive anywhere. Maybe you would prefer to just relax on the lanai with a cocktail and watch the dolphins spinning in the bay and the sunset on the water. Take a walk over to Pu`uhonua o Honaunau National Historic Park, commonly known as the City of Refuge; and learn about the Hawaiian culture.

The bathhouse in the yard is stocked with snorkeling gear and it's great to walk back from the beach and shower outside. It's nice to keep the sand and water out of the house. We use solar power to energize this eco-friendly home.

This is a Hawaiian experience that even the locals want to enjoy.

Guest access
What a perfect romantic getaway for two. The fully furnished kitchen has granite counters, a gas stove, a dishwasher and an ice maker. There is an outdoor cooking and dining area also. Enjoy the romantic, queen size canopy bed. Of course, the master bedroom has satellite TV available. The 2nd bedroom has ocean views and an office area. We've added a screened lanai music room, there is an additional $25.00 housekeeping fee when including the extra room. There is a bath house in the yard with a variety of beach toys and a private back yard. Enjoy tropical fruit from the yard, we have fresh garden vegetables, bananas, papayas, pineapples, coffee trees, tamarind and a turmeric garden.

Other things to note
Many guests never realize that we use solar power to energize this eco-friendly home, it’s good to review power consumption guide. There is a generator if needed.

Please bag all rubbish, place in outside can, located under front lanai on Monday night.

Please respect the land, sea and wildlife. Do not harass the turtles or chase the dolphins. Please help protect the coral by not stepping on it and applying reef-safe sunscreen after swimming or at least 30 minutes prior to entering the water.

This is a beach house in a local neighborhood, not a disinfected condo. We don’t poison our yard, as it would all go directly to the bay, 74 feet from the house. Expect to see geckos on the lanai and hear children playing in the yard. We close our windows for the couple hours the neighbors run generators to supplement their solar.

Come, relax and enjoy real Hawaii.
