Beautiful log cabin on private sunset facing shoreline filled with classic details and many luxuries that will make your stay more than memorable.

The space
Perfect for a quick getaway the cabin is located approximately 20 minutes west of Interstate 35 and is just two hours north of the Twin Cities, and about 1/2 hour from Duluth.

The cabin has one bedroom + a loft. It can sleep up to six people (three queen sized beds) in two sleeping areas: two beds in an open loft (accessible by a ladder) and one in the bedroom. There are three levels to the cabin. The loft (ladder access), a window filled main floor with kitchen/living space and a stairway leading to a walk out lower level with window/doors on three sides facing the lake.

While the cabin can accommodate six people it is BEST FOR FOUR OR LESS guests. Although they have enjoyed their stays, a few guests with 4+ in their group have found the spaces a bit to cozy--especially in winter for those who don't plan to spend time outside. There is an outhouse but it is just for DECORATION. We have a standard bathroom with shower and toilet inside.

Lake shore western views from over 1000 sq. feet of wraparound decks with two tables and chairs. There is also a sauna in separate building, wood stove, A/C, in floor radiant heat, and a kitchen filled with high end appliances. Near three state parks: Moose Lake, Jay Cook and Savanna Portage and less than five minutes from Fond Du Lac State forest with thousands of acres with endless ski, snowmobile, and hiking trails. Great fishing lake–over 300 acres and is connected to other local lakes, rivers, wetlands.

Sadly, NO PETS allowed due to allergies.

Other nearby attractions include: golf, Blackbear casino, history centers, whitewater rafting, and the amenities found in Duluth. The home is not suitable for gatherings or parties with more than six guests. Wi-fi is high speed. Netflix, Hulu, HBOGo and Amazon Prime streaming services are available. Available dates are detailed on the airbnb calendar. Note: It's typically not possible to accommodate check-in's on the same day as another party checks out. Sufficient time is needed to adequately clean and prepare the home for your arrival.

THINGS TO DO ….

Jay Cooke State Park: This park is a must! Park trails link up to the Willard Munger State Trail at the north edge of the park; perfect for backpackers, bikers (both mountain and tour), hikers, horseback riders, and skiers. Check out the wildflowers in the spring, and the vivid colors in the fall. Walk on the swinging suspension bridge high above the raging St. Louis River. Visit the historic cemetery and the gorge at Thomson Dam.

Fond Du Lac State Forest: is roughly 3 miles north of the cabin. There are countless miles of trails for winter and summer use. Maps available online. There is also a fire tower that is partially climbable.

See Duluth: Visit Canal Park by the city on the lake. My particular favorite places include canal park (I35 to Lake Avenue. Right into Canal Park Area). Eat at Timber Lodge, drink craft beers at the Canal Park Brewery and hear local music at the Amazing Grace Cafe, visit the Lake Superior Maritime museum, watch the ships come in, walk across the aerial lift bridge and out on the jetty to the lighthouses. End your day with a walk on the beach on Minnesota point (across the aerial lift bridge to beach) on Minnesota's youngest geological feature... the long spit of land.

Raft the St. Louis Rivers: Spring snow melt and summer dam releases supercharge the St. Louis River, creating a surging, roaring spectacle for hikers and waterfall-watchers—and a playground for whitewater junkies. Peak times are April and May... just 20 minutes away.

Gamble the Night Away! - Blackbear Casino (and great buffets!) is minutes away in Cloquet.

Moose Lake State Park Geology Interpretative Center -- Rock hunters and agate collectors traveling around Lake Superior should consider taking a slight side trip (on Interstate 35) about 36 miles south of Duluth, MN to see the very impressive Lake Superior Agate collection and rock displays at the interpretive center located with the Moose Lake Park Visitor Center. If you have a annual state park pass or a pass for the day from visiting another Minnesota state park, admission to the Geological Center is free; otherwise there is a modest admission charge (in my opinion worth the fee if you are interested in agates).

Moose Lake Fire Museum and Historical Society – Moose Lake Housed in the former Soo Line Depot, the Moose Lake Depot contains exhibits about the history of the area railroads and tells the story of the huge 1918 fire. The fire burned 250,000 acres, took more than 450 lives and devastated the Moose Lake-Kettle River area.

Golf Minnesota National (McGregor) Welcome to the magnificent Joel Goldstrand-designed Minnesota National Golf Course. Developed within the dense covering of towering red and white pines and abundant wildlife, nothing but nature will greet you here. The 7,200-yard, bent grass 18-hole championship course has five tee boxes for all skill levels. There's also a blue grass 9-hole executive course featuring junior tees for families and those who like a more leisurely, less challenging round of golf.

Bike / Ski / Snow mobile the Trails… the Soo, Willard Munger, and many other trails are in the area… too many to mention. Claiming the title of "Agate Capital of the World," Moose Lake is a great place to start a ride. It is located at the halfway point on the Willard Munger Trail system, and the route follows an area covered by glacial till and outwash left from the last ice age.

I love hosting people and sharing the experience of staying in a log cabin, living on the lake surrounded by nature, fishing off the dock at sunset, saunas in the winter, and walking the fern & fruit gardens in the summer.
