The space

Built in 1860 during the busy Gold Rush period, Old Malcolms Inn was the Pub, the corner store, the post office and the gold exchange.
It was built in a time when the township was very busy, with churches, schools and a growing population. It was where the Cobb and Co stopped to pick up/drop off travellers.

It is now a great place for you to stop and visit, relax, enjoy the country quiet or go and enjoy the wonderful National Park.

Sit by the fire, enjoy a glass of red and the company of some great friends. It's ideal for 2 couples to catch up for a weekend away, or just for one couple to spend some time together exploring the area.

You will receive a lovely basket of items to ensure you have something to cook up a lovely breakfast in the morning.

The town is now a very quiet little place surrounded by farms, wineries, and the St Arnaud Ranges National Park.

Guest access

Old Malcolms Inn has two separate bedrooms.
1) The downstairs bedroom (with ensuite)
2) Attic bedroom (with ensuite)

There is also an additional room that can be booked for an extra couple, please look up Abbey's Cottage on Air bnb for more details on this room.

The kitchen is fully equipped for all your cooking needs.

There is a commercial coffee machine in the 'shop' area which you are welcome to use. Coffee beans will be available.

There are three open fires within the property (two fire box/one fully open) wood will be at the back door for you, if you require additional wood you can get it from the wood heap.

The kitchen, lounge, quiet sitting room, shop area, dining room are all available for you to use.

Interaction with guests

You will have the house to yourself, however we are not far away and you can call if you need any assistance.

There may be guests in the Cottage if you are only booking the two rooms in the main house. The Cottage Guests do not have access to the main house.

The neighbourhood

There are only a few neighbours, as the creek runs along one side of the property and sheep will be grazing behind you.
Kangaroos are regular visitors in our backyard of an evening, while the Kookaburras sit high up in their trees.

Stuart Mill is now surrounded by farming properties, and natural bushland. It is a very peaceful and relaxing area.

Getting around

You will need to have your own vehicle to arrive and get you around to wherever you would like to go.

Remember - there is no petrol station in Stuart Mill, nearest place is St Arnaud (17km).

Other things to note

Stuart Mill is a very small town in country Victoria. There are no shops or businesses in the township. The closest towns are St Arnaud and Avoca. Please make sure you have the things you need (food) otherwise you will need to drive to the town.

There are lots of lovely wineries in the area that you can drive around to, plus you have the wonderful National Parks area very close.

Mountain bike riders will enjoy bike trails through the park areas, while those who enjoy fishing often go to Teddington Reservoir.

Old Malcolms Inn was built in 1860 and we work very hard to look after the building and keep its original features. We do request that you respect the building carefully.

Please also note that the property is on tank (rain) water.

What a gorgeous place with amazing history. The inn has been beautifully restored and we had full use of the property including the gazebo and wrap around verandah. Very comfortable beds with quality linen. Aileen provided great tips on where to go bike riding and eating out in the area. A great haven to relax in after a day of touring. Highly recommend ... Great value and a good location to balance country tranquility with access to busier townships. Will come again.

You will be staying in my home, my husband and I purchased this as a derelict property and spent 3 years bringing it back to life. We lived in a caravan on site while we did this. It certainly was a labour of love, but very fun too.
I like gardening, and cooking and meeting new people. I hope you enjoy a lovely weekend in our home.
