This unique, modern era home offers a nostalgic glimpse into the past history of the Salton Sea. The kitchen, dining, and living spaces are open with window views of the Chocolate Mountains and the Salton Sea. It is a pleasant and peaceful experience to view the changing light in the landscape as time passes throughout the day; Sunsets and sunrises across the Salton Sea are spectacular. The Sea house has one king size bed, one queen, one full, and a sofa bed. There are no square rooms in the home, and everything is designed with a dynamic balance of angles. A wonderful experience for any mid-century enthusiast. There is a patio just outside the dining area that provides a nice place to sit and enjoy the brilliant desert mornings or warm desert nights.
Guests will have access to all rooms in the home as well as use of the washer and dryer located in the garage.
Other things to note
The Salton Sea has many interesting sites to explore. Hiking and scenic desert walks can be found at Dos Palmas Oasis, Box Canyon, and Painted Canyon - all within a 5 to 10 minute drive from the home. Dos Palmas is particularly beautiful with vast desert vistas and crystal clear water in the Oasis - it is a jewel that is rarely visited. A family owned organic date farm is just down the road in Mecca where different varieties of dates can be sampled and purchased. These are some of the best dates we have tasted in the region and visits to the date farm can be scheduled in advance. The Salton Sea State Recreation Area and the iconic North Shore Yacht Club are all within minutes of the home. Of(SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN)eat sights like Salvation Mountain, Slab City, Bombay Beach and the geo-thermal mud volcanos are also quite close - within a 20-30 min. drive south. Sunsets are spectacular along the Salton Sea, and the east side, where our home is located, is a favorite of professional photographers as it faces the setting sun. It is also much quieter than the west side which sees a lot more hwy traffic. We know you will enjoy exploring the desert along the North Shore of the Salton Sea. Our family has lived here for the past 30 years and we are happy to provide you with information on the many things to do and see in this unique and often overlooked part of the state.
This is a historic mid-century home that has been in our family for over 30 years. We ask that renters treat it with basic care and respect. There is no smoking allowed in the home.
Owners will not be on-site, but guests will have access to management and handyman, when necessary.
My husband, Andrew, and I have a long history at the Salton Sea. This home has been in our family for over 30 years and we have a special love for this fascinating area. Andrew is an artist and University professor who frequently paints the desert region surrounding the Salton Sea. We are excited to share this mid century home in a unique desert setting.
Andrew loves to play jazz piano and I love to sing, so we have provided a piano for other music lovers to enjoy. We have three young children and two small dogs (both rescues from the Salton Sea) and welcome others with children and pets.
We have explored this region of the Salton Sea extensively and are excited to share our knowledge of places like the hidden Dos Palmas Oasis, desert canyon hiking, slab city and bombay beach, as well as a local organic date farm where private date tasting can be arranged.
