The space

Charming spacious apartment in a beautiful and historic 400 year old chalet. The location is in the village of Vernamiege in the commune of Mt. Noble in the Herens Valley. This region is famous for its' scenic Alpin beauty, amazing wines, cheese and fresh produce. The sunny micro climate is outstanding as well. The area is for real and not a high priced tourist trap. All the basics are here from gourmet salt and staples right down to bandaids and bread in the freezer. I often cook for guests and am experienced both in nutrition and many types of cuisine. I charge 20 sfr a meal.

The interior has been tastefully redone as well as the large terrace. One room is a separate small studio with a bathroom off the terrace. The whole place is all on one level making it more child and elderly friendly. There is a garage and private parking as well as close by communal covered parking.

What makes this home special is that it is beautifully hand made with an eye for space and privacy, the bedrooms are not next to each other and there are private entrances. The couch can double as a bed as it is comfortable and 2 meters long. I am a long term bilingual resident, meaning convenient guide who will taxi or car share on occasion as well as if you find yourself in difficulty for a minimum price.

The village has a store and two bistro-bars. There is bus service directly to the train and other destinations 25 meters from the house. The access route is new and regularly cleared of snow.

Within the commune there are many out door sport facilities including walking, hiking, biking, and skiing. There are tennis courts, a pool, swing golf, and kids swings and sledding area with a small lift. There are are also several restaurants from pizzeria to fine gourmet in villages nearby.
Many other ski areas are accessible including the largest Ski domaine in Euroupe the "4 Valleys". Zermatt is a possible day trip but far for a full ski day. Cran-Montana and Verbier are 1 hr by car.
Sion is only 20 minutes by car 35 by bus and has many interesting tourist attractions. There are thermal spring baths close. There is also an underground lake with boat rides. This is fantastic wine county…..try wine tasting!

Guest access

Guests have access to all common areas plus the terrace and garage. They can cook and wash clothes easily.

Interaction with guests

I often share meals with guests or cook them the first meal if they arrive late. All my guests have enjoyed that... read the reviews! They can tell me any special needs or preferences. I have a bike, snowshoes, and other equipment that I lend for free. There are many flyers and books on the sites of this region here. I can help with reservations and language problems. I do my best to keep your costs to a minimum.

Other things to note

Websites and tourist information abound here just type in key words and it all comes up.

There are not many house rules besides not smoking indoors and being courteous of others. I need to know your arrival time to be here. If you need a meal it is 20 frs... I do this because there are restaurants near by but none in Vernamiege. Many choose this option if arriving by bus or late and tired, please reserve at latest a day in advance.

It was a quick stay (in late at night and away early in the morning) so I didn't have the chance to talk to Charlotte at length. She kindly made me a salad when I arrived in the evening.

This chalet is situated in a quiet village high up in a spectacular valley. It is very well appointed and Charlotte was a wonderful host. Before she left, she ensured we were comfortable and had all we needed for out stay. She cooked a fabulous meal for our first. We highly recommend this chalet to anyone who is looking for peace and quiet.

Before I start saying how good this village is, would like to say how awesome our host is! Charlotte is definitely the best host ever! You will feel safe and comfortable having her around. She cooks well too! During the 2 nights stay, she cooked for us and prepared breakfast for us. She could have prepared anything but she still ask what we would like to eat. Though we paid a fee, but it's well spent cos its home cooked and cooked with love and effort. Definitely better than restaurants. Charlotte also shares her knowledge of Swiss attractions which really made our stay v enjoyable. We really love chatting w her! N because it's gonna be cold at zermatt, she offered to lend us the hats, bags, jackets so as to keep us warm. She made awesome coffee too! Really appreciate Charlotte so much! Now moving on to her apartment, Hesitate no more! This is definitely the place to stay! If u are looking for a tranquil place w scenic view, this is the place to stay! Really, it's really really beautiful. We drove up here n there's parking available too. The instructions to get there is very accurate. The bed is really comfortable, toilet is clean.. I Guess this two areas are very important ... At least for us. everything is just perfect. Most importantly Charlotte made us feel at HOME.... and prepared everything well and tidy for us n awaits for our arrival. Really the best decision ever to stay here!

Horrific experience with this host. She became very agitated with the local bar next door that held a birthday party until approx. 2am. She arranged for me to stay elsewhere that night but became extremely tense and vocal before I left. When I returned in the morning there were clothes thrown all over, cigarettes left to burn out on furniture right next to papers, wine glasses and kitchen disarray with lots of dirty dishes. I went hiking that day and upon return she was still throwing disgusting profanity out right and left and listing all the people she would kill or murder she was so angry at the neighborhood bar and about everyone. Then she started to expose herself from the waist down. This freaked me out even though the anger was not directed at me, I was unable to sleep that entire night because of her excessive anger and the unknown of what she would do next. I had to pack up very quickly as soon as it was daylight the next morning and find another place to stay. That day was a waste for me because I was to tired to enjoy the beautiful mountains of Switzerland. I was traumatized to say the least. This should never happen on anyone's vacation, ever. She has apologized, but the excuse was her doctor gave her the wrong medicine for pain. She was "high" and violent on something and should not be running an BnB in my opinion.

Response from Charlotte:
I I perceive this as considerably vindictive report that I will attempt to put in context. Note that I have 106 reviews 103 being very positive. We had spent two nice days together before the event, I had spent a full day driving her to the thermal baths and a wholesaler for fish, a good shopping center for speciality food items, abiet most that she paid for. Then we toured a beautiful ancient church and I offered her a glass of wine in a 400 year old bistro. The next day, after helping her with hiking plans, I learned once again of impending noise problems nearby. This was the third time in three weeks that I had had to rent a hotel or help with accommodations, at my financial and time consuming loss. Over dinner I offered to rent her a nearby room and also organized a massage. It was not comfortable to say the least. I visited the commune, called the President twice, as well as the person in charge of order here once, but he was out of town. I also spoke with neighbors. There is a communal panel meeting set up in two weeks time on this subject and I am not the only complainant. Disruptive noise is illegal after 10:00pm. I could write a book about the next point, but will try to make it brief. I have full documentation to support my claims. Kathleen makes the point about a medically induced reaction around my condition sound very trite, it is not. There is no fixed protocol for cobalt and chromium poisoning. It has recently become a widespread problem with metal on metal hip replacement and is in full litigation with many class actions in the states. It comes right up if you (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) it. The neurocognitive and vertigo symptoms are personally the most distressing and are better but will need time. I have had reconstruction surgery. I had little or no BnB activity for a full three months during that time and live in help, a further financial burden. As a licensed Naturopath I rarely take medication but in this unprecedented situation, took prescribed tramadol-Mepha 50 mg. for pain and so I could sleep on the day in question twice. The reaction was pervasive, (a list is provided at the end of this letter). I notified my Doctor and a therapist the next day. I have also notified the hospital and several Federal and patient agencies in Switzerland during the whole recovery process on these issues. As for "exposing myself", I took my pants off in my room to retire when the question of an extra duvet came up and I in underpants shirt and bra quickly retrieved a duvet and placed it on her bed. We had been in swimsuits a whole day prior to that. I was not lewd and, as she stated, did not direct my anger at her. I have never been physically aggressive in my life. In conclusion; I have tried to provide a context in which I was given little chance of reconciliation to this serious charge. I did make several attempts. Both of us were recovering from formattable health issues, she from cancer and I from heavy metal poisoning from a ten year hip prosthesis as well as seven dislocations and an extensive operation. Both are insidious with ramifications. We talked more about her. I did mention that mine was neurotoxic, an issue that is amplified with stress, sleep deprivation, food sensitivity, alcohol, and medication. I did not intentionally wish to cause this situation and will take every precaution in the future. Tramadol-Mepha Kapselin 50mg " Hallucinations, confusion, sleep disturbances, nightmares, mood disorders, increase or decrease of activity and disturbances in cognitive and sensorial capacity (e.g. in decision making, perception). This medicine may cause dependence."

I am a naturopath living in Valais. I spent many years in dance and theater and then went on to study natural medicine because I know it works. I like both refined and rustic places. As I live high in the Swiss Alps I some times miss the sea.
