The space

A kitsch haven in what can only be described as the coolest, weirdest town in America. 5 blocks from the Salton Sea, on the desert side of Bombay. This former family home is complete with everything you might need for exploring the Salton Sea and Imperial Valley, Salvation Mountain and Slab City. The town, the house and the sea are a photographer's dream. This is a great base from which to explore eccentric nearby sites such as Salvation Mountain and Slab City.Made up of a square mile grid of paved streets, the majority of the residents live in eclectic mobile homes. There is a small corner market, 2 bars, bait shop, volunteer fire station, an unmarked motel, and the flooded ruins of a once prosperous fishing mecca.Without a gas station, and the nearest one 20 miles away, most people rely on electrical golf carts to get around town.

The house is completely air-conditioned throughout and has a fun, Americana vibe, filled with metal-printed prints by the owner, a photographer.

The house features wood-paneling throughout, an open-plan living area, with comfy sofa-bed and TV. Dining area and kitchen, with TV. Office space with two desks. Cosy bedroom and covered outdoor living space. lots of closet space throughout.

Set in a big lot, completely enclosed all-around and very secure. Lots of on-site parking and room for pets.

A unique space in a unique place!

This is an amazing, eclectic space full of random art and documents to explore with a communal vibe from all the items past guests have left behind. It's much larger than the pictures make it seem. The area is very close to all of the great things to see around the Salton Sea. Make sure to check out East Jesus in Slab City, Salvation Mountain, and be at Bombay Beach at sunset. It's so beautiful. It was an amazing, otherworldly experience.

If you are looking for a place to stay to explore the Salton Sea area you can't find a better place! The location in Bombay Beach was great. If you are high maintenance, however, I suggest you look elsewhere as I imagine some people can be weirded out by the abandoned buildings close by. I loved it though. It was definitely a unique experience. The only minor issue was the ants in the kitchen and spider webs throughout the house. Tao was a great host though and was very responsive when the air conditioning wasn't working initially.

An interesting and very enjoyable stay. A few spiders and ants accompanied us in the place, but the location and scenic beauty and uniqueness of this post-apocalyptic styled location was worth it!

Second time I've stayed at Tao's place in Bombay Beach. You can't beat it for character and characters! An extraordinary location with an extraordinary history. Places like this are what make AirBnB such a great invention. Taking you out of the mainstream and thrusting you into a David Lynchian world of wonder. Hope I get a chance to visit once again in the future.

Tao's place was spacious, comfortable and has a great view of the mountains and desert. If you're an adventurous traveller and looking to explore Bombay Beach or the Salton Sea definitely check it out. I had a drink at the American Legion bar and loved meeting the locals as well.

Hi! I'm an Italian/American photographer and film director who is also very passionate about architecture, design and the creation of interesting new spaces. I've lived in several places (NY, Italy, Spain) and love to travel. For me, the opportunity that Airbnb brings in meeting people from all over the world is fantastic and I love welcoming people to my home.

I moved to this lovely home in Venice four years ago and have had a great time remodeling and renovating it. Venice is wonderful, dynamic neighborhood with the best vibe, restaurants, shops, weather and sites in L.A. Recently I purchased a property in Joshua Tree imagining it as a weekend home. Instead, I've fallen madly in love with the place and spend most of my time here and rent the Venice house out on Airbnb.

Please feel free to send any questions. I, or possibly my great friend Adriana, who helps manage the Venice property, will get back to you as soon as possible. Thanks! Tao
