Mountain and valley views

Guests say the views are lovely.
Our cosy and humble cabin - an old pickers hut from the farm's previous life as an apple orchard - is located in the stunning Huon Valley, with views across the stunning Huon River to the snow capped mountains of the Southwest.

You would be hard pressed to find a more peaceful outlook for your morning coffee or afternoon wine as you take in the open skies and the local wildlife.

Just a few minutes from the charming village of Cygnet and its many great cafes and shops.

The space
On the edge of our farm transitioning from pastures to a budding new orchard, sits this cosy old apple pickers hut - reimagined to be an escape filled with comforts.

Inside Rising Hut:
Step inside your pocket of cosiness on the river. With large windows in the lounge room and bedroom overlooking the Huon River, situated directly across the quiet coast road, rest and relaxation will come easy.

The living space is well equipped with a comfortable couch and a wood heater that warms the whole hut really efficiently - we'll leave you well stocked with firewood and kindling. In the summer months there's a fan to keep things cool and you can also catch a wonderful cross breeze through the hut.

The kitchen is well-equipped for cooking up many a feast, along with cast iron cookware should you choose to head outdoors to cook.

The bedroom includes a luxe organic natural latex king size bed and pillow topper with soft brushed cotton bedding for the perfect night sleep.

The bathroom has a shower with great pressure and complimentary natural bath products.

Outside Rising Hut:
The hut sits nestled between our pastures, where you may enjoy a visit by our pet sheep flock, and across the road from the Huon River, where you may manage to spot a visiting seal or dolphins. Across the river you can view the mountains of the Southwest Tassie wilderness, including Hartz Mountain, frequently capped by snow.

The campfire pit is ready for you to cook on or to just enjoy an evening under the stars.

Directly across the road you'll find a winding pathway access through a small patch of bushland to a small private pebbled beach on the river.

The property is unfenced and often also home to wildlife, including pademelons, quolls, bandicoots, echidnas, and wedge-tailed eagles among a huge variety of other birds and animals.

Other things to note
The pickers hut is located in a quiet rural neighbourhood, along a roadside. Though a quiet rural coast road frequented more by cyclists and walkers you will hear the occasional passing car, and can see the neighbours property from the hut.

Unfortunately the property is not appropriate for children or pets, due to the lack of fencing, proximity to a drop off to the road, unfenced wood heater and local wildlife. We are happy to welcome infants who are not yet crawling/walking but please do let us know in your booking notes.

Neighbourhood highlights

The Cygnet Coast area of the Huon Valley is like something from a dream! Peaceful and quiet with the most incredible views across the river and mountains, with big skies and beautiful sunsets. There are many lovely beaches along the river, the closest being the private one out the front of the hut, or head a few minutes up the road to Seven Inch for picnic tables and grass to picnic on, or Poverty Point for a beach filled with fossils pre-dating dinosaurs. We are just a 10 min drive from Cygnet village, a cute welcoming town with some great local shops, a well-stocked supermarket (IGA) and fresh produce shop (Cygnet Garden Larder) and places to eat - including Poolish and Co, Red Velvet Lounge, Old Bank Cafe and Port Hole Cafe. Three minutes up the road from the house, in Glaziers Bay, is Fat Pig Farm for a long lunch. A visit in summer to the area is perfect for the many farms in the area and their fresh blueberries, cherries, raspberries, peaches and other incredible cold climate fruit. We are a 20 min drive to the larger rural town of Huonville for other services, more cafes (Summer Kitchen Bakery, Reba Sear) and Willie Smiths Apple Shed. A half hour drive over the other side of the river will get you to the cute villages of Franklin and Geeveston, and we are just 45 minutes from Hobart.

After many years of using Airbnb to travel in various countries and hosting travellers in the studio in the back of our inner-city terrace in Sydney, we have made the move south to Tasmania in 2021 and have a wonderful home to share in the beautiful Huon Valley. I live just a few minutes outside the small village of Cygnet with my partner Michael and our two children. Michael and I were urban farmers, we ran a small scale vegetable farm in Sydney and are in the process of establishing a much larger perennial farm (fruit, nuts, berries, garlic) here in lutrawita/Tasmania. We've always enjoyed community-oriented living and having people around, so enjoy sharing our space hosting visitors through Airbnb.
