This is a unique holiday house. We have converted a large Fremantle boatshed into a huge and fun holiday home for 2 to 3 families with kids (10-12 people depending on ages of kids), or 8 adults. Highlights include an indoor ping pong table and a vast deck and treehouse.
This is a unique property, a converted railway shed with characterful features. The central area is open-plan with a concrete floor, and is 25 metres long by 12 metres wide. At one end is a large kitchen with a double oven, two dishwashers, and a two fridges. This opens onto a very large deck with an awning and large dining table. At the other end of the central area is a large kids play area - large enough to have a rudimentary indoor badminton court. Off the central area are a TV snug, a master bedroom, a 6-bed kids bunk room (sleeps 2 single adults) and a bathroom. A third bathroom is outside in a separate block. There is a self-contained double bedroom with an outdoor shower and loo on its own deck. There is a mezzanine level on one side of the main room, with a crawl-in bed space (with low ceiling and ladder access - not suitable for the less able-bodied or smaller children). Outside there is woodland and open grassland. There is a large treehouse next to the deck (beware of sharp corners with small kids). The barn is perfect for 2 to 3 families with kids. In winter, the uninsulated main barn space may feel cold in the more open parts, but the bedrooms and TV room are made very cosy with small heaters.
In all the barn is quite "rough and ready", being for the most part still an old railway shed, but great fun.
Guests can access the area around the Barn and up into the woodland to the left of the Barn. Access areas will be explained at check-in.
Interaction with guests
Kate & Micah who live on the same property will be available to welcome you to the Barn. They are both passionate about the area and can share information about local features, attractions and produce so that you can get the most out of your stay.
Other things to note
There is adjacent farmland - please do not climb over the fences. Please keep to the land attached to the barn and not wander over to the next door properties. Guests must be aware of fire dangers at all times. Beware of the pot bellied stove - make sure it is guarded when it is burning. There are residents on the property, so noise must be kept to a reasonable level, especially in the evenings. There are dams on the property so children must be supervised. These provide pretty views but are off limits to visitors. Be aware that snakes may be in long dry grass in summer, and spiders may be around in old buildings. The barn is kept as clean and pest free as possible for a space such as this. Please watch the bath doesn't overflow, as there is no drain in the bathroom floor.
There is a small resident dog on the property and lots of peacocks and guinea fowl, so dogs are not allowed unless by special prior approval. We expect guests to be quiet in the evening as we have two other houses that are permanently lived-in nearby. No music/noise after 9pm. No smoking due to risk of fire - outside and in.
We are a British/Aussie family, who have lived in Western Australia for the last 3 years. Willowood Barn is our holiday house. Our 4 kids love it - particularly their bedroom, the indoor games and outdoor fun.
