The space

Welcome to our page we are delighted you are considering staying in our Self Catering Coach House at Streamstown House for your trip to Westmeath. The Coach House is a separate spacious two bedroom unit with optional annexe next door to the main Georgian house, set in a stunning location on 231 acres in the middle of the Irish countryside. The property is on Lake Derravaragh at the end of a long avenue, under Knockeyon, (second highest hill in Westmeath) with 1500m of shore line in a National Hertitage area.
This is an ideal base for a walking holiday starting with glorious walks up Knockeyon, fishing trip with Lough Ennel, Lough Owel, Lough Sheelin nearby or visiting the places of historical interest in the area such as Fore Abbey, Tullynally Castle, Belvedere, Celtic burial grounds (Loughcrew, Newgrange), large Period houses. There are also golf courses (Mullingar and Delvin), horse riding and horse racing. An array of summer arts, music and Heritage festivals take place in the surrounding areas. This is a perfect place to relax and enjoy the setting - a peaceful and quiet retreat. We have a tennis court, croquet lawn, trampoline and access to fishing on Lough Derravaragh. A fishing boat is available for lets or seven days or more, subject to insurance.

Guest access

Coach House private gardens, tennis court, Crocket lawn, trampoline, walks outside main gardens of the Streamstown House, including walks up Knockeyon and through wonderful unspoilt woodland walks on the lake shore and further walks up the hill. Depending on the time of year the orchids and bluebells are fantastic.

Interaction with guests

John and Clarissa are usually around and always accessible by phone. If we should be away there will be someone else in situ.

Other things to note

Please note the annexe costs an additional €50 per double bedroom, per night. If you want three bedrooms you need to say you are 7 people on the booking form. Similarly if you want the fourth bedroom book 9 people.

Well presented, very comfortable in a quiet rural location, close to Mullingar. We enjoyed our walk to the loch.

Stunning location and main house is picture perfect as if you were back in the early 1800's but a host that is gracious and provides all of today's amenities. Sunsets over the lawn sloping to the lakeside and colors galore behind the hills on the other side. Not to mention the sheep and friendly dogs to add to the gentile county feel.

We had a great stay, the place is stunning. John and Clarissa were very accommodating, especially considering that we were a group of eight people with young children. Thank you!

This is a gem of a place. the location is idyllic both as a natural spot and a character country home. The peace is indescribable. The lake is so beautiful, the home so clean and tasteful. The hosts are welcoming, accommodating and warm. I vastly recommend this home.

We loved our stay at Johns place. We didn't get much time to enjoy the place or the surrounding area and would love to go back again and explore. Would highly recommend this cottage to people who are visiting Ireland.
