About this listing

A historic, gorgeous cabin in the heart of the township. loft bedroom with comfy queen bed, downstairs kitchen and lounge, shower and toilet. Cosy and quaint perfect for a short stay and adjacent to all restaurants and town facilities.

The space

The space is perfect for couples on holiday or workers/visitors needing a base home-away-from-home. There are stairs to the bedroom - take these slow and carefully! Its a landmark of the township and part of the history of Kangaroo Island. We've thought of most everything you need to be comfy and hope you enjoy your stay.

Guest access

You have access to the whole house - little as it is! Bazza the owner lives in a separate house adjacent and far away enough not to disturb you unless you want to wander over for a chat. He's lived here longer than me and knows a great deal about the Island's history - he's also good for a dad joke or 10! Little dog Amy is up for a pat or a little tidbit if you feel so inclined - or you can play "sock" with her.

Interaction with guests

I live not far away in the next block of the township - a short walk or quick drive if needed and absolutely happy to help with anything you need.

Other things to note

Kangaroo Island can be tricky - there are some very unique things about our island home - but don't be afraid to ask away!

The Doll's House is a delight - quirky, cosy and has everything you need in a compact space. Kingscote is a perfect base for exploring the island. Though be aware of kamikaze kangaroos!

Lovely place for a couple to stay- everything you need to provision yourself and cook etc. No wifi - but you shouldn't be needing that on KI - get out and see the place!

The Doll's House is such a delight and Cathie a perfect host. The little house is cozy, charming and holds everything you need (even a a stove stop expresso maker). Cathie makes you feel welcome with amazing attention to detail (a little bunch of mixed, fresh herbs, fresh garlic, ground coffee, etc). On a personal note the house took me back to childhood memories of my grandparents "workers cottage" house. Such an Australian experience! The location makes it easy to see the sites of Kangaroo Island as well as walk about and become engaged in Kingscote.

The cottage was adorable, very quaint. The only downfall was the hardware across the road which started up early in the morning. We were very comfortable in the space and everything worked well.

Cathie's place is really well located in the middle of Kingscote, walking distance to the grocery store and restaurants. It's perfect for two people and great value, but you'd be cramped with more than two. The place is well equipped with kitchen supplies and the place was toasty with the provided oil heaters, perfect after hiking in the cold. Cathie was really flexible with our itinerary as well. We'd definitely stay here again and have already recommended it to family who are coming to Adelaide.

The Doll's House surpassed our expectations. Tiny but well laid out and plenty of space for a couple. Lovely towels provided, milk in the fridge, tea bags and coffee, a Bailetti coffee maker plus coffee grounds, ice trays in the freezer, lemons and a bunch of herbs on the sideboard, muesli and some light staples in the cupboard, shower gel, hand wash. A couple of fans for the warm weather, and an efficient heater for the cold weather. We loved the table and chairs outside in the garden where we ate our breakfasts and had our pre-dinner drinks. Central location is perfect for walking to the many food places after imbibing in said pre dinner drinks. The best fish and chips, calamari (and fresh fish) from the Fish & Chip shop next to the Caltex service station just a short walk along Murray St. The Pizza from Bella's was great too. The Queenscliff pub was closed on Sunday night, so we missed trying it out. Barry, who lives in the main house is a really sweet man who's knowledge of KI is extensive and is extremely interesting to talk to. KI people are so lovely and trusting, like a big country town. Check-in was the best of any airbnb I've stayed in over the globe. Cathy had left the key in the door, so arriving was smooth and such a joy to walk into the sweetest quirkiest little home that wrapped us in love. I would hate to stay anywhere else when returning to KI and was sad to leave. Next time I'll be booking in for a month!! Thank you so very much Cathy.

Cathie User ProfileCathie is a superhost.

I've lived on this beautiful island for over 25 years and love it! Quiet in winter and beach, sun, surf lifestlye through summer. I work, live and play here and have just set up this gorgeous little self-contained house to share with others to enjoy and for people who visit for work and professional reasons.
I've used Airbnb myself and love the casual, friendly and relaxed way of booking accommodation and meeting new people.
