Valley and garden views

Soak up the views during your stay.
Away from a main road, up a private driveway is Claret Ash Cottage.
Just a few paces from the front door is an organic flower and herb garden where plants are cultivated for skin care products. You are welcome to explore the 33 acre property and a must see is the panoramic view from the hill. The quiet tree lined dirt road behind is a perfect walking trail. This farm is 35 mins from Adelaide and only 10 mins drive to shops or local eateries. We invite you to experience life on a working farm.

The space
The cottage is perfect for a family with children, a stay with other family members, or simply for a couple.

There are two sleeping spaces. One bedroom has a Queen bed and en-suite with rain shower. A built-in wardrobe with plenty of hanging space and large chest of draws offers easy storage for longer stays. This bedroom also has ample space for a port-a-cot which is available on request.
The other sleeping area is separated by a curtain from the main living room and is a step down on the other side. This has two single beds which can be co-joined to make a king double if required. If privacy is a concern beds can can be moved to the massage room.
All guests are required to share the shower in the ensuite bathroom off the main bedroom, however there is a second toilet and washroom off the main entrance lobby.

At the heart of the cottage is a well-equipped eat in farm kitchen featuring a large Belling cooker which has 3 electric ovens and 5 ring gas top burners. The kitchen is stocked with pantry staples and spices including gluten free options to make cooking choices easier for you.
Off this is a separate laundry/pantry with washer, (powder provided) and dryer.
For relaxation there are two living areas – Main living room with a piano and slow combustion fire (wood provided). The other living room has a 55” Smart TV, work desk and garden views.
Central heating and cooling which is zone controlled, makes this a very comfortable cottage all year.

Outside is a seating area under a pergola and shaded by a large ash tree. Perfect for relaxing on warmer days.

Undercover parking for guests is available to the side of the cottage entrance, and ample parking space surrounds the cottage.

Other things to note
Something different
To add to the feeling of relaxation, in an additional room of the cottage we have created a beautiful space for therapeutic massage treatments. This room is accessed by the masseur when arriving at the cottage for bookings. This is a separate service, offered by a professional team. Contact the hosts to assist you with your booking.

It’s a working farm
As a working farm you will notice activity in the garden during the middle of the week. You can see the planting and harvesting of flowers and herbs through the seasonal changes. Farm workers are not on site Fridays through to Mondays.
The cottage is the only residence on the property, and because of this we have a caretaker – Maria, who lives in a separate wing to the side of the cottage. She has a completely separate entrance and she is off-site most of the day.
Located on the farm is a small production facility for making the Janesce skin care products. This is 150 meters from the cottage and is separated by large sheds and a gate closed at all times. The activity around this is very low key. Workers enter and leave via a separate driveway Monday to Friday. The cottage driveway access is private.

Children
For those travelling with very young children there is room for a porta-cot in the main bedroom, and we can provide a high chair, and baby bath if required. Please let us know at time of booking if you need these.

Four legged friends
Disability assistant dogs are welcome, though with no fencing around the cottage we recommend that dogs are restrained on a lead when outdoors. If you are bringing an assistant dog, please let us know so that the farm mananger is aware that a dog will be onsite.

Disability access
The cottage has previously been home to someone in a wheel chair for a few months. Main living space is all on one level. The en-suite bathroom is wheel chair/disability friendly, with access toilet, hand rail, and open larger shower area. A shower chair is available on request and the shower includes a hand held option. Front entrance has a very low step that can be easily negotiated with a wheelchair, and main living spaces are open plan. A couple of doors of normal width are to be negotiated with a wheel chair, but are manageable.

Neighbourhood highlights

Flaxley is a farming community defined by a single local hall, so all activity is centred in Echunga which is 3 kilometres from the farm. This village has a delicatessen and the Hagen Arms, a great country hotel which has recently changed owners enticing many with its rustic country vibe and new menu. Another 10 minutes drive and you are in Hahndorf or Mt Barker where you have a wonderful selection of restaurants, boutique distilleries, and great shopping. This puts Claret Ash Cottage in a delivery range for supermarkets which is perfect if you are time poor.
Strathalbyn Rd is part of The Angus River Scenic Route, leading to Macclesfield and a little further on is the township of Strathalbyn. A charming historic town with antique and curiosity shops.
