The Racecourse Inn was purpose built in 1860 as a coaching inn, and has been offering accommodation ever since. This beautiful building is surrounded by established gardens, with some rare and unusual trees and shrubs, and abundant roses in spring & summer. Guests are welcome to enjoy our beautiful cottage gardens, and to use the outdoor BBQ.

The Racecourse Inn is the perfect base for exploring historic Longford (established 1813), the Tamar Valley wine route and the Northern Midlands.

The space
A charming Georgian former coaching inn, built in 1860 by ticket-of-leave convict William Dean. Five en-suite bedrooms with a cosy guest dining room. We are close to World heritage listed Woolmers Estate & Brickendon Farm, The National Rose Garden & great fly fishing in the South Esk and Macquarie Rivers.

The building has been sympathetically restored with five generous en-suite bedrooms, and a large and cosy lounge with a uniqe vaulted ceiling. Fully licenced bar area within the lounge, and a lovely fireplace.

Full cooked and continental breakfast, including produce from the garden.
Free guest Wifi.

Longford, in Tasmania's northern midlands, was one of the first areas settled in Tasmania, in 1814. With a lovely rural outlook, surrounded by the Great Western Tiers, Longford boasts a beautifully maintained historic heart, with many well-preserved Georgian era buildings.

There is a bus stop next door. 15 minutes from Launceston Airport and 20 minutes to Launceston.

Guest access
Guests are welcome to enjoy the cosy lounge area in the guest dining room with wood fire, and our beautiful gardens.

We love Tasmania's northern midlands and the wonderful rural landscape around Longford, and enjoy making our guests feel welcome in this wonderful heritage listed Georgian house. I am passionate about cooking our beautiful Tasmanian fresh produce (especially desserts), gardening, good wine, antiques, and painting botanic watercolours and birds. We also love our animals, and are slaves to one very small cat, a young Smithfield Collie (a Tasmanian sheepdog breed), and custodians of two gorgeous black sheep and eight chooks. When not at the Racecourse Inn we love to get out and explore around Tasmania's northern midlands and the Great Western Tiers.
