Renovated* 65-year-old Japanese home, perfect for groups of 4-6 people. With colorful eclectic interiors featuring unique art works, outdoor space and all the amenities, YADO offers a unique and convenient lodging experience right on beautiful Naoshima. With fully bilingual Japanese/English support and service from your hosts, Ono and Jen.

* Please note that this is an old home with imperfections, and renovations done with a combination of both professional work and DIY.

The space
FIRST FLOOR:
• 1F bedroom: Sleeps up to 4 people. This is a 12-mat (roughly 18+ sq. meter) room with wooden flooring and antique glass sliding doors.
• 2 beds, plus 2 foam mattress-futon combos (set up for you), combine to sleep up to 4 people comfortably. AC/heat, WiFi, water server, and fan/space heater.
• 1F toilets (x2): Directly across from the 1F bedroom is a modern 'washlet' toilet and a small sink. The other toilet, also a washlet, is convenient to the kitchen, deck and powder room/shower.
• Spacious shower room and connected powder room with 2 sinks.
• Outdoor wood deck.
• Kotatsu room ("kotatsu" = sunken table for 4 that's heated in winter). The room is a cozy place to hang out especially if it's not deck weather. Filled with board games, art books, etc.
• The "engawa" hallway outside the 1F guest room opens out onto a small private yard.
• Kitchen: Smallish kitchen with basic appliances including IH stove, microwave, toaster oven, coffee maker, and Vitamix blender. It is NOT a state-of-the-art, large Western style kitchen. Our refrigerator/freezer and counter space is quite limited, as well, but you can cook basic meals. Most importantly, please be aware that this is a "working kitchen" -- in other words, we ourselves use it when the house is not rented, so while 1 refrigerator is reserved for Guests Only, other refrigerators and freezers are not empty, and the rest of the space has normal everyday kitchen things (condiments, foodstuffs) about. IF YOU ARE EXPECTING SERVICED APARTMENT LEVEL OF EMPTY/PRISTINE KITCHEN, THIS IS NOT THAT. We make every effort to keep the space absolutely clean and clear of excessive clutter, but we appreciate your understanding.

SECOND FLOOR:
• 2F bedroom: Sleeps 2 people. Possibility to make another bed here if you have 6 people in your group and want to have 3 downstairs and 3 upstairs.
• The room is 10.5-mats / 17 sq. meters in size, with vaulted, exposed-beam ceilings.
• AC/heat, WiFi, water server, table/mirror, and fan/space heater.
• There is *NO toilet* or running water on the 2nd floor – However, our staircase is equipped with motion-sensor lights and handrails, for safety in navigating to the toilet at nighttime.

IMPORTANT NOTES >>

* People with CAT ALLERGIES -- please note that we do have two short-haired cats on site when the house is not rented out. We obsessively clean and vacuum (Jen suffers from severe dust allergies, on top of being a clean freak), but if your allergies are severe we may not be the place for you.

* The STAIRCASE: Like many old houses in Japan, our stairs to the upper floor are *quite* steep and the footboards are narrow. If you are coming with elderly relatives or anyone with mobility issues, we would not recommend them sleeping upstairs.

* Our KITCHEN: Please see above. Our kitchen is a "working" kitchen and will have our own everyday kitchen stuff (including our own food and supplies).

Guest access
With full-house rental you will have access to the entire house.

The kitchen is available for use, and you can cook simple meals and dine in our open/counter-space kitchen, on the deck, or in the kotatsu room. Although please note that *REFRIGERATOR/FREEZER SPACE IS LIMITED.* We do have a large cooler box available for keeping drinks etc. cold, in addition to our refrigerator space, but since we live here, our own personal food and cooking ingredients/supplies are taking up space in the kitchen, which is not super large to begin with. Your understanding is appreciated!

Other things to note
* Our CHECK-IN window is from 3pm-8pm. It would be much appreciated if you can alert us to your approx. ETA at least 1 day prior to check-in.

* It's OK to drop off your LUGGAGE prior to our 3pm check-in time, if you will be arriving on the island earlier. Do please alert us ahead of time (ideally at least 1 day prior to check-in), about the approximate time of your luggage drop-off. Thank you!

ABOUT BREAKFAST, IMPORTANT:
- Although most of our reviews mention it, our Breakfast service is *not* included in Whole House rentals. It's only for first-floor "Blue Room" guest room bookings, when we are also sleeping on-site.
- For Whole House bookings, if Breakfast service is desired, we can do so for an Add-on Fee of ¥1200/person, between 7:30-9:30am. In this case we will come to the house 1 hour before the desired breakfast time, to prepare it for you.

ENJOYING YOUR STAY ON NAOSHIMA:

* If you plan to include visits to the art museums and other art sites around Naoshima and the other neighboring islands, PLEASE TAKE NOTE:

* CHICHU MUSEUM = ONLINE PRE-BOOKING REQUIRED: Please visit the Benesse/Chichu website to make your reservations ahead of time.

* MONDAY CLOSINGS:
--Chichu Museum and other art sites, and almost all restaurants and other businesses (e.g. Rental Bicycle shops) on Naoshima are closed on Mondays.
--On Naoshima, only Benesse House Museum is open on Mondays.
--Teshima Museum (on neighboring island Teshima) is open on Mondays, and is about a 30 minute boat ride from Miyanoura Port. See Shikoku Kisen timetables for details on the boat schedule, as there are only 2 boats going/returning, each day.

* EATING ON NAOSHIMA:
--Naoshima has a *limited number of restaurants* (especially for dinner), and they can fill up quickly! WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND FIGURING OUT YOUR DINNER PLANS ASAP, either before you come, or ASAP once you arrive on the island.
-- If you're here on Sunday, Monday or Tuesday, more restaurants are closed than open. Plan ahead!

--"YADO FOOD": At present, Ono (YADO owner) is running a pop-up restaurant in Miyanoura, right next to the public bath / art installation, "I Love Yu." It's a very simple menu (e.g. Thai style Coconut Chicken Curry, edamame & beer), but you are welcome to eat here. (Please mention upon your arrival so we can reserve a spot for your group.)

Jen & Ono met in Tokyo and after visiting Naoshima in 2016, decided to spend the next stage of life here! Ono is a born and bred Tokyoite, and Jen grew up in upstate NY (Finger Lakes region). For about 20 years Ono ran a bar in the middle of Shibuya, and Jen was an executive search consultant in Tokyo, recruiting for foreign companies' Japan offices. We're thrilled to host people from all over the world and to share incredible Naoshima!
