“We absolutely loved this house, location, everything! Ample room for 6 adults, 4 kids and 1 baby. Thoughtfully included everything we needed, right down to additional beach towels, kids bikes, kitchen appliances, etc. Wonderful high position on the beach with glorious views through the trees to the water and wrap-around verandahs to enjoy these views. We’re in love with Hyams Beach and will definitely be back in the future.”

Vanessa,

“White Loge is perfect, we’ll be booking again for sure. Everyone loved it from a 2 to a 60 year old and everyone in between! Feeding the birds was fantastic and you have everything you ever thought you would need. Just like being at home but so much better! The log fire was also perfect for winter. If only we could live there…”

Melissa ,

“WOW White Lodge – what a fantastic house, with absolutely everything you could ever want provided plus more. The beds are so comfortable as is the provided linen, extensive cooking utensils, not to mention the delivered fire wood – we all absolutely loved White Lodge and the gorgeous surroundings of Hyams Beach, we will definitely be back. “

Helen,

“Absolutely loved this place… suited my friends and i really well. this place is great for all weather conditions… only a minute walk from the beach and love the keyless entry, made everything so much more convenient. When it rained there was a large fireplace with plenty of firewood outside, and large lcd tv with a good collection of dvds or bring your laptop/hardrive and hook it up (which we did). kitchen was very well equipped and we were able to make gourmet dinners every night. local wild birds are so cute! the kookaburra visited us everyday when we sat on the balcony. for the price we paid it was beyond our expectation! thank you marie for providing such a lovely house to us!”

Other things to note
you may experience the wildlife in the area - perhaps an echidna making its way through the garden, the local resident possum running along the veranda at night to do her nightly check of the bird feeder, you can feed beautiful wild parrots on the veranda they love sunflower seeds. If you are up early enough or around at dusk a few Kangaroos may be making their way up and down Bayview Avenue on their way home or out - if no the best place to get up close and personal is Caves Bach in out wonderful Booderee National Park. Don't forget our stunning marine life - often you can see dolphin cruising up and down the beach at dawn or dusk - if you would like to see them at play take a dolpini cruise and see they enjoy playing with the bow wave - during the winter months a whale cruise is a must and you can see these magnificent creatures as they make their way up or down the coast - often they come into the bay on their journey and you can see them breach from the veranda - a pretty fabulous sight.

Neighbourhood highlights

There is a cafe just down the hill that serves great coffee and meals.

Booderee National Park is a short drive away and has more beaches, surf beaches and botanical gardens. Dogs however are not allowed in the National Park.

Green Patch in Booderee National Park and the beaches around the bay are probably some of the most beautiful you would find anywhere - make sure you go and explore them.

There is great snorkelling in the area as well as good dive sites, whale and dolphin watching, glass bottom canoes, kayaks for hire and restaurants and cafes in Huskisson

There are some bush tracks around that are suitable for biking so bikes are also a good idea.

WHALE WATCHING

Jervis Bay is one of the few pristine coastal areas left in NSW. The picturesque bay and its environs form the Jervis Bay Marine Park. The protected bay and its surrounds are diverse in marine and bird life and it has some of the most amazing and spectacular scenery along the Australian coastline. It's breathtaking beauty, and its rich cultural and natural significance have long been recognized and appreciated by locals and visitors alike.

Unique to this area are the resident pods of Bottlenose dolphins that can be found in the bay all year round. Seasonally we witness the migration of the majestic Humpback whales along the East Coast, this occurs from May to mid November.

From mid October to late November there is the opportunity to see Humpbacks and their babies in the shallow, sheltered waters inside Jervis Bay.

The best time to go looking for whales ...

Late morning and early afternoon are reasonably good times of the day to see whales from most vantage points, as the glare off the water doesn't make sighting the tell-tale "blow" too difficult to see. Early morning can also be a good time as the "blow" is often highlighted by the backlight of the morning sun.

Where can you go to see whales?

During their northern migration most whales come within 3 km of the NSW coast. Headlands and lookouts in national parks can be the perfect place to see them.

Whales often come into Jervis Bay itself and are sometimes come right into Hyams Beach - they can often be in the northern most corner of the beach - it seems to be a favourite spot.

For watching the whales pass outside the Bay one of the best vantage points is around the Ruined Lighthouse (in the National Park) maybe of the walks around this area will have great ocean view and plenty of opportunity for watching.

There are also Whale Watching Tours run from Huskisson.
Local Things
The Jervis Bay Marine Park is home to a vast array of dolphins, fur seals, fairy penguins, sea eagles, gannets and whales (May to November)

Hyams Beach (closest to the house) is dog friendly. There are resident dolphins in the bay and you can often see them on a morning or sunset walk.

Booderee National Park
This is a stunning National Park, offering many things to explore. (URL HIDDEN)
Many of the walks are particularly good and there is lots of info at their site including suggested itineraries.

There are many Beaches around Jervis Bay itself and you can always find the right one for the local conditions. If the wind is blowing from the south head over to Green Patch or Bristol Point in Booderee National Park and they will be sheltered. If there is wind or swell from the North then discover Summercloud Bay which faces south and is on Wreck Bay at the end of Wreck Bay Road (not marked on this map as it is on Wreck Bay Aboriginal Community Land).

You can Whale Watch from the Ruined Lighthouse which is a great vantage point (May to November is whale watching season)
A walk into Steamers Beach is truly worthwhile. (URL HIDDEN)
Here it is – definitely worth going to!

There is also a lovely walk towards Huskisson from Chinaman’s Beach (turn left when you come down the hill at Hyams). The track heads off from the North end of the beach and there is another few lovely little beaches along the way – well worth exploring and flat as well

A National Park pass is $11 for 48 hours or $44 for 1 year.

Pets are not allowed in Booderee National Park.

Beaches
Please note that the local beaches are unpatrolled. Being in a bay the water is often calm however depending on the swell and wind we can get quite choppy conditions with an undertow. Please assess the conditions carefully and do not go beyond your capabilities.

Surf beaches are Caves and Bheweree, they are both in the National Park and are a short walk from the car park with Caves being the closest. Neither of these beaches are patrolled

Fishing – many people fish off the local and surf beaches also there is good fishing at St Georges Basin.

General Shopping
There is a Coles in Vincentia that is well stocked. There is also a deli, newsagent, bottle shop, vet, doctors and chemist.

Huskisson has a few more deli’s and cafe’s. Good food and coffee is available at “Supply” – the green deli.

Local Restaurants
There are many restaurants in Huskisson,

The pick is 5 Little Pigs – the chef here is great and the food is excellent café food – I am sure you will like it.

I have tried the hot rock restaurant and it is quite fun!

The latest restaurant in Huskisson is The Waterhouse, 13 Currambene St, Huskisson (URL HIDDEN)

The deli Supply in Husskison is pretty good and you can some goodies there as well

The Thai restaurant Wild Ginger is nice but quite expensive and not really Thai

Although the local fresh fish at the fish shop in Huskisson is often good value however I have found their chips to be pretty dreadful!

Dive Shops and Whale Watching
Dive shops are here as are canoe hire places, you can also go on a dolphin spotting tour which will take you around the bay.
