Escape from the city to 'Grittleton'. Located at the gateway to the Pyrenees, Grampians and Bendigo regions, there are plenty of great wineries and historic towns to visit. Ideal for families and groups of friends wanting privacy and space.

The space

'Grittleton' is a character filled 1950s Homestead, built for a large family and generous entertaining.

Still a working sheep and wheat farm which is leased, the home is now used solely as a family retreat. With open fireplaces, leather couches, antique furniture, comfortable beds, a gourmet kitchen, two living and two dining areas, this is a fabulous house for getting together with family and friends.

OUTSIDE:
Explore the amazing rock formations on Spences Hill and the red gum valley, the Views are spectacular.

Relax with local wines on the verandah or lounge, taking in district views and spectacular sunsets.

Out the back you will find a gas BBQ, flat grassed play areas, a large outdoor dining area with long dining table which can seat 20 under a covered loggia.

From November to March the in-ground pool will keep you cool.

There are bikes for all shapes and sizes - BYO helmets and ride around the property or venture onto the quiet roads.

There is also undercover parking for two cars and level access from the driveway.

INSIDE:
Kitchen - everything you need to cook up a storm, and serve with style. There is a dishwasher, large fridge with freezer, pantry, Miele cook-top and double wall ovens. We stock the basics for you such as salt and pepper, cooking oils, spices and the like. Once your booking is confirmed we will send you the details of the local IGA which has a great Deli and bottle shop show casing local wines.

You also have access to a BBQ in the court yard to help feed the masses!!

Bedrooms:
Configured to sleep up to 13, the home will comfortably sleep 9 down stairs and 4 in the attic. The rooms are described as follows;

The master bedroom boasts a really soft king size four poster bed, with district views from French doors leading to the wrap around verandah.

The Queen bedroom is huge and has a queen size quality ensemble, extra single bed in the same room and en-suite with separate toilet.

The third bedroom has twin king single beds that can be configure into a King Double. This bedroom is flexible for children or adults.

The fourth bedroom has two single beds with an adjoining shared en suite.

The attic sleeps 4 on singles comfortably and is a great retreat for the older children or adults. It also has a kitchenette and toilet. Access to the attic come at a small extra charge.

The property is ideal for 3 Couples with a few kids each or for any other combination.

Bathrooms:
Main bathroom has a sunken bath and separate toilet in spectacular 50s pink...
It matches the en-suite at the other end of the house and there is a toilet in the attic.

Living:
The main lounge is expansive, has great views, large open fireplace, leather lounges and eclectic artwork.

There is a small living area ideal for children and teenagers wanting to watch television, DVD's or play games.


Playing:
Pool toys, TV's and DVD players, loads of DVD's, jigsaws, games, walks and fresh air!

Washing:
There is also a separate internal laundry with front loading washer and dryer.

Guest access

You will have access to the whole house and property, except there is a small cottage next door which is out of bounds to gether with the sheds and stable.
You are welcome to explore the property and especially Spences Hill which has amazing rock formations, but remember to always leave gates as you find them other wise stock may not get to water and well the Rams may .........

Interaction with guests

You will be left completely alone, but of course you can contact us by phone if you need anything!

Other things to note

With 3G and 4G internet coverage for mobiles - no WI-FI or landline in the house.
We find Telstra coverage is better for mobile internet, but for voice, all services have good strength.
There is a supermarket at St Arnaud, open 7 days per week with extended hours and has a bottle-shop showcasing local wines and a complete delicatessen.

This is a home away from home for the family who built the house in the 1950's. Please respect it as a guest of the family - put rubbish in bins, wash dishes and leave things as you find them.
No smoking inside, and please dispose of butts properly.
Sorry no pets - this is a grazing property. Also please no open fires or camp fires. This is a rural area and and during Summer open fires require a Council permit.
Golden rule leave the gates as you find them otherwise stock may not be watered, and the Rams well.....

Grittleton is a grand old farm homestead on hundreds of acres of land, out of St. Arnaud. Peaceful and secluded, there is some absolutely stunning countryside to be seen from various points on the property. The house is very spacious and comfortable, and one gets the distinct feeling of someone sharing a special family home with you. There are walks to be had, unforgettable sunsets to be seen, and above all, the peace and quiet of just you and your fellow guests (or noise if you so desire!) As for your host, Hugo? Well, you could not ask for a more friendly, congenial host for whom nothing is too much trouble! Hugo gives an abundance of information and will go out of his way to help with any issues that may arise during your stay. Simply, Grittleton is a magnificent part of Australia managed by a wonderful host, and we highly recommend it. (PS...since the renowned Lamartine hotel was closed for business, if you want a dining experience with a difference- as Hugo says if you're game- for a unique Aussie experience you can't beat the Logan Pub!)

We went for a long weekend as a group of 3 families to this fantastic farmhouse. The house is large and cosy with a great open fire in the lounge room. It has everything you need ready to go. The kids had a ball - riding the bikes, in the gardens, up the hill and over the rocks. And then all slept soundly in the attic - which is like something out of the Famous Five. A lovely break from the city! Thank you.
