Extra spacious

Guests love this home’s spaciousness for a comfortable stay.

Beautiful area

Guests love this home’s scenic location.
A unique treetop two-storey timber home in South Hobart. Escape with stunning views of Kunanyi/Mount Wellington. North facing and sunny with a beautiful bush outlook and cosy log cabin interior. Just 10 mins from Hobart city centre this home offers a truly relaxing experience.

The space
A unique timber crafted home awaits with hand-sawn salvaged square timber logs creating a cozy cabin style feel throughout the open plan living areas.

There is a beautiful salvaged timber kitchen with gas cooktop and electric oven and is fully equipped with toaster, kettle, plates, cups, pots, pans and utensils so you can create your own meals. The kitchen also has views of large native trees and the iconic Kunanyi/Mount Wellington through a large window and sliding door to the front of the home.

Off the open plan dining and lounge there is a very large timber deck to admire the view and enjoy a meal. There is a table on the deck. Feel free to take the red chairs outside but please bring them back inside when you are finished.
Also on this level is the main bathroom and laundry with polished concrete floors, a refurbished iron claw foot bath, matching sink, toilet and glassed separate shower. There is a washing machine available to use in the laundry. Towels and linen are provided.
*You will need to bring your own toiletries, including soap and shampoo.
The home features salvaged and restored timber doors and unique Tasmanian wilderness inspired stained glass panels made by the owner.

Upstairs, accessed via a timber staircase, there are three good sized bedrooms with gorgeous tree-top views, views of the mountain and timber floors throughout. The main bedroom offers an ensuite - shower, sink and toilet. The bedrooms contain two double sized and two single beds.
*Please note that the house has two flights of stairs.

The home offers a heat pump as well as double glazing to all windows, which makes the house very easy to heat.

Guest access
*Look for bus stop number 20 on Huon Road and turn left up the driveway to number 480. If you miss the turn off, please continue up Huon Road and you will soon find a safe place to turn around. DO NOT stop on Huon Road and reverse to the driveway! That would be exceptionally dangerous.
*Please take care when entering and exiting the driveway to the house! It is not difficult but I would strongly advise that someone stand in the drive and guide the driver in so as not to scrape your car on the small brick wall at the entrance to the driveway.
*Guests can park under the carport. Please note that there is only room for one guest vehicle on the driveway. Any other vehicles will need to be parked on the street. It is a shared driveway.
*The driveway is not suitable for large vehicles such as 12 seater vans.

Other things to note
Tea, coffee and sugar will be available for your use. Check in time is 2pm and check out time is 10am.
*If you find that the oven has tripped out, open the fuse box in the car port and flick the switch back to 'on'.
*If the gas for the stove top runs out, switch the lever above the gas bottles towards the other gas bottle and turn the valve at the top of the gas bottle. to open it. Please let me know if one of the bottles needs replacing.

Neighbourhood highlights

South Hobart is just five minutes drive from the city centre, yet is located in a picturesque, arty and wilderness loving part of town, with the iconic Mount Wellington right on your doorstep and plenty of good quality cafes and places to buy organic and local produce. If you are looking for local cafes and shops, go down Huon Road to the first roundabout at the top of Darcy St and turn left. Park at the bottom of Darcy St and just around the corner on the right (on Macquarie St) you will find Ginger Brown café and a small supermarket. Just to the right you will find a restaurant called 'Miss Jane'. A 10 minute walk further down Macquarie St will bring you to more food shops, bakery, post office, organic wholefoods store, newsagents and more. From the house you will be able see the Cascade Brewery. It's the oldest brewery in Australia and they offer tours. Further down the road from the brewery you will find the Female Factory where the female convicts were housed. From here you can follow the Rivulet Track into town. It's a lovely walk from the house and will take approximately 50 mins to town (longer on the way home as it's uphill!). There are loads of restaurants in North Hobart on Elizabeth Street and also plenty in Battery Point.

Lives in South Hobart, Australia
Hello! I work and play in the outdoors and my house reflects my lifestyle. I love adventure activities, especially on the water. I work in Tasmania and around the world as an outdoor guide and competed for over a decade on the Australian Wildwater Kayak Team. I have been building my house for the past three years and now I have gone nutty! The house is completely finished now but I just have to complete a few projects around the outside of the house and then I am free! I hope you enjoy my house.
