Beautiful house, stunning peaceful setting, very tastefully restored and designed. Kind and helpful and promptly responsive host. Highly recommended for a peaceful time in Tuscany. Hilltop villages and beach all within easy reach.

Simply awesome is how I would describe my experience at Montarlese. Carlo was very helpful in providing us all the necessary information beforehand and answered all our queries to our satisfaction. The last 10 minutes or so of the drive are a little bumpy but the views during this drive are lovely. Whats more, the views from the villa are simply mind blowing with trees and pockets of shade all around. We thoroughly enjoyed the pool, and made use of it everyday. Carlo also introduced us to a local cook who made delicious meals for us everyday and was well versed in the local knowledge. She recommended various places to visit which we loved. The lodge itself is very thoughtfully restored and true to its old heritage. The long dining room adds a certain charm to the place. I will most probably visit this lodge again.

Stayed at the casale for two week in July, two families including three kids. The overall experience is fine. The casale has plenty of space both indoors and outdoors. The views (the casale is on top of a hill) are stunning. The staff was helpful and always there when we needed them. The swimming pool was clean, again plenty of room around it. The pool isn´t too big or deep, which in our case was fine- we didn´t have to worry about smaller kids. You definitely need a car (avoid ones with low clearance- the roads are bumpy there)! The casale is ca. 5 km away from the Albinia-Manciano road, without the car you can´t do much, really. Bear in mind that the casale is an eco-lodge, meaning there is no air-conditioning in the building. However, we did survive doing things right: keeping window shutters closed during the day, using ceiling fans and additional ones to make air circulate better etc. To sum up, if you enjoy country style living and are ready to do certain things with your own hands, the place is right for you!

Response from Carlo:
I thank Andrè for taking the time for the feedback. I will try to take the most out of it in order to improve the experience for other guests but I am somewhat puzzled by the nitpicking attitude of the suggestions and feel the need to clarify a few points: •Wifi access: the 24 digits initial password is a factory setup of the wifi router. It never occurred to me that the seconds needed to type the extra digits were a serious nuisance to guests. We will reduce the digits or buy a new router! •Swimming pool with no shade: near the swimming pool there are two shaded areas. One cute gazebo with a table for at least 8 people, the other one - 6 meters long and 2,8 meters wide offers shade to 6 sunbeds and is few meters away from the pool. We clean the swimming pool twice a day and we control water quality 3 times a day, the swimming pool is 100% compliant to regulations for public swimming pools. Hygiene and health safety of our guests is critical to us, so at night the swimming pool is closed because we cannot guarantee the same standards (just as it happens in many hotels). In a private villa obviously the guest can do whatever he likes but I am sure he will not get the same type of water quality. •Overall cleaning: the group arrived before check-in time when the staff was completing the cleaning of the casale after the previous group had left and so they complained about the not pristine conditions. We have two people cleaning, however not every guest leaves the casale in good conditions and to clean a large kitchen with all appliances and stoves, 4 bathrooms, the 350 sqm house and two terraces takes time. In order to avoid unfortunate situations we have moved check-in time to 4 pm and we ask for a mandatory cleaning during the week •Noise from the next farm: our farm is large enough (37 hectares) to ensure privacy but obviously we cannot avoid the use of tractors by our neighbour farmers or to hear the herd of sheeps grazing on the pasture. •Fridge with no ice: we have an American sized fridge and the ice machine is perfectly functioning, you just need to open the fridge door and grab the ice cubes. •Cutlery: we offer a standard set of knives, spoon and everything else. It seems that the blade of some knives bend if you cut hard things: I guess we did not buy swiss inox knives! We will look for them! •Toaster is perfectly functioning but old. We have bought a new one •Unfinished garden: we just finish renovating the swimming pool and the lawn close to it was not ready yet. We are talking of a strip of about 30 square meters out of a very large property. Other guests found the trees and plants in the garden extremely nice. •Friendly feeling. We offer to all our guests home grown fresh produce and sweet figs from out trees just to make feel them at home! Any day a gardener is available and takes care of the rubbish. Personally before the arrival I send a rich list of info and I am always available by phone or mail for any requests, on top of that it is totally clear that the guest is renting a whole casale with privacy and not just sharing a room in an apartment with the owner. •A basic supply for a plate of pasta is always available: we offer a complementary bottle of our wine and on request we can buy some food, but they did not ask for this service. •Plastic table cloth: it seems that this was a major offense to the aesthetic taste of the guest. We put a plastic transparent cover to our 5 meters chestnut wood table to prevent further damage (previous guests had babies drawing on it or putting hot stoves on it) and the guest removed it and grossly discarded it. •Need of a 4X4 car. The last 5 kms of road are partly white but is does not mean that it is a safari. Myself, my employees and many other guests drive a normal car, as little as a Fiat Panda and we never experience problems with that.
