The space
This ground-floor studio apartment opens onto a nicely tended garden and lawn, below the towering Goat Wall in Mazama. Near Mazama Store, a popular local gathering spot for good food, conversation, and shopping right next to the Methow Valley Sports Trail System.

**winter visitors**
As a reminder, expect winter weather and driving conditions. Snowplowing with the plowing services in these parts does not occur unless there is at least 6 inches of new snow. Please be prepared for winter driving and the possibility of getting stuck--including the driveway--if you do not have a car with snow tires and all-wheel drive and/or chains. Winter driving experience is recommended.

NOTE*** The wifi/internet is consistently inconsistent in this area and the WIFI SIGNAL AND SPEED ARE NEITHER RELIABLY FAST NOR STRONG. IF YOU ARE EXPECTING GOOD AND CONSISTENTLY AVAILABLE INTERNET THEN THIS IS NOT THE LOCATION FOR YOU. IT IS NOT UNHEARD OF FOR THE INTERNET TO GO DOWN COMPLETELY FOR PERIODS. Most the time there is internet, however I want to make sure people are informed about the possibility of not fantastic internet before they come out to the valley, hence the caps ;-)
All day Zoom meetings, for example, have been fine, both video and audio, through the wi-fi, but there is no guarantee. I get quite a few questions about the above so I'm trying to address it as best as I can. That being said, if you have any questions, please feel free to drop me a message, I'm happy to address them.

Also, CELL PHONE RECEPTION IS NOT RELIABLE EITHER. Verizon is decent.
You can often, but not always, get pretty good cell phone signal from some of the major carriers up the road next to the Mazama store. This is not guaranteed. PLEASE BE AWARE THAT IF YOU NEED TO BE CERTAIN TO BE DIGITALLY CONNECTED THEN MAZAMA MAY NOT BE THE PLACE FOR YOU. That being said, you can generally get cell reception at the store.

The Space
This studio is annexed to a house that can host bigger groups, but it has its own separate entrance. It has an open studio floor plan with a full-sized hide-a-bed sofa and queen bed, full kitchen, and internet (SEE NOTE ABOVE). It can be rented by itself, or in combination with the lodge, for larger groups. On its own, the studio sleeps 4. The "Big House" may be rented by another party during your stay. The studio has its own outdoor seating area and grill. The deck areas are for The Big House guests. There are 5 shared acres of grounds and lawn area, plenty of room to find a quiet space.

In the summer, enjoy hiking, rock-climbing (Fun Rock climbing area is just 1/4 mile down the road, within walking distance), mountain biking, and other outdoor activities. Relax in the evenings on the garden benches, enjoying the views, or take a stroll on the trail running along the back of the property. In the winter, this MVSTA trail becomes a groomed cross-country ski trail that joins ~200 km of other groomed trails in the 2nd-largest cross-country ski trail system in the country. This winter trail crosses the property and can be accessed down the driveway! For those who prefer snowmobiling, the Yellow Jacket Sno Park is just a few miles up the road.

Two nights minimum stay.

Please LEAVE the HEAT ON when you leave. Keeps the place warm and the pipes from freezing. :)

Guest access
Guests have access to the entire studio (kitchen, bathroom, etc). Linens, towels, a coffeemaker, cutlery, and dishware are provided.

Other things to note
There is a nearby general store (The Mazama Store) with groceries, produce, delicious baked goods (the salted baguettes often sell out--get yours early!), coffee, gas, and an outdoors shop, Goat's Beard.

Guest access
There are 5 acres of grounds and lawn you will have access to. The deck areas are part of "The Big House" rental. You have your own separate seating area and grill outside the studio entrance.

Being a remote area, with the towering Goat Wall mountain behind and surrounding forest, the internet / Wi-Fi here does not always have good signal and sometimes there are outages. Just in case this is important and you aren't ready to disconnect some from the buzz of the outside world, to play and relax and rejuvenate in this very special place. For many visitors and residents, it's part of the beauty and benefit of the area to have less distraction/temptation to be wired in. It hasn't been an issue for most people--just want to let folks know to expect that the internet may not be rockin' out here i.e. you may not be able to reliably binge watch episodes on Netflix. Also, cell phone signal with the major carriers isn't usually strong. You can generally make calls and receive texts with no problem, but there is no guarantee. Back up the road at Mazama Store about 1.5 miles away, reception tends to be better.

*Important note regarding garbage*
We are in bear country and they will explore unsecured garbage.

Summer, spring and fall:
If you accumulate extra garbage and do not wish to keep the garbage bag inside the house, you MUST put the garbage in the dumpster towards the end of the driveway. This is bear country and we want to respect and protect the bears' well-being. You will need to undo the ratchet straps on the dumpster to place garbage in the dumpster and then securely tighten the ratchet straps back. If garbage is left next to the dumpster or in any other receptacle besides the securely ratcheted dumpster, the bears will get into the trash and this leads to their harm.

Winter:
Please place garbage in the grey garbage can outside.

*Please leave the kitchen tidy with dishes in the dishwasher and other remaining dishes washed and left to dry on the counter. A messy kitchen may result in additional cleaning fees. Thank you for your cooperation and consideration.

Please leave the driveway that runs in front of and past the house open for the passage of cars.

Please turn the heat off and lock the door when you leave.

Two nights minimum stay.

Guest responsible for damage caused by guest or their guests.
No atv or motorcycle use on the property. No illegal activity. Quiet hours between 10:30 and 8:00 a.m. Please respect noise levels for the surrounding community.

I fell in love with The Methow and Mazama in particular about 12 years ago. It has been my dream to have a home here and it was realized this year when I purchased Goat Wall View in June 2020. I feel incredibly blessed to have found this beautiful property so close to Mazama store and the ski meadow. I love traveling, hiking, and cross country skiing. I was born and raised in Alaska so outdoor beauty and snow are in my blood! My favorite place in the world besides The Methow Valley is Ireland. I have traveled there many times and plan on going back and spending a lot more time there. I love very old things and ancient pre-history. In 2015 I backpacked the West Highland Way in Scotland solo and look forward to doing that again either on my own or with a few friends. I have an Australian Shepherd, my second and he is just a love. I hope you have a wonderful time in the Methow, whether with friends, family, or on your own and I am delighted to share Goat Wall View with you!
