We-a family of 2 adults and 2 children lived in Murielle and Laurent's guest house for a month. The house is a beautifully renovated barn that is modern, brand new, has all convenient appliances(dishwasher, washer, induction heat stove, oven, microwave, toaster and exhaust fan), 2 TVs, wifi and has a queen size bed, bunk beds and a sofa/bed. There are 1 and 1/2 bathrooms, with a nice shower and towels, linens, everything you need is provided. It is an amazing house in the farm that enriched our lives during our stay.
The guest house is located in Omiecourt which is about 1 1/2 hr drive north of Paris and there are some lovely small towns nearby (Perone, Saint Quentin, Amiens, Compiegne etc) that are a short drive away to take care of all your grocery or shopping needs. We visited Paris a few times and felt the drive was quick and convenient, you can drive to the end of a metro line, park and easily visit the city. Adjacent to the guest house are other beautiful guest houses, a full equipped gym, play houses (with everything you could possibly need-riding bikes, outdoor furniture, ping pong, pool table, trampoline, darts-for family fun). The Leriche family live 2 doors down and are always available to help you with your needs.
They also have 2 horses, ducks (including one that responds to "Coco"), a dog, rabbits and chicken. There is a very spacious lawn with 2 vegetable gardens which were made available to us for fresh organic plants such as tomatoes, potatoes, spinach, carrots, berries, onions, garlic and herbs. We didn't have to purchase any vegetables during our stay. We grew to love the animals and the wonderful healthy farm life.
All of these are more than plenty to get this guest house a worth 5 star rating. However what makes this place profoundly special is the warmth shown to us and the interactions we had with the family. Laurent and Murielle have 4 children, they are hardworking and proud French citizens, they value their traditions and have a compassionate outlook towards the world. They are well travelled, humorous, cool and kind. We were at many times gifted with their cooking, the wonderful French cuisines they prepared were truly memorable and the trips they hosted for us to introduce us to their farm in western France, visits to castles and palaces, an endive growing operation, a picnic, the beach communities in the west coast and the stories they shared of their lives. For us as curious travelers we got much more than our money's worth by this deep understanding of the French life, the culture, the arts, the history and the great way of life in the French countryside. For those of you who wish to visit bigger cities, its only a short drive away. Here in the country side you can enjoy good weather, great people, clean air, space and a most relaxing vacation. I highly recommend this guest house to all.
