Relax at The Folly, located between Metung and Lakes Entrance. The Folly offers a unique off grid and environmentally friendly experience with total seclusion for your private get-away. There is a wood-burning stove and gas heating to keep you cozy. The Folly was designed and built by the owners and hosts, Stephen and Cindy Edwards following traditional building techniques. The home offers a master bedroom plus upstairs loft, ideal for a couple or family seeking wide open spaces to explore.

The space
The Folly provides an escape from the pressures of modern day life, with an opportunity to relax and recharge.

The Folly sits in its own secluded space on 3 acres of rolling pastures surrounded by amazing rural vistas and rolling hills as far as the eye can see. All you need to do is to bring your supplies and high spirits, and arrive ready to be swept away by this beautiful country setting.

If you feel the need to explore, a gentle walk to the lake will not disappoint. If you feel more energetic, bring your mountain bike as we have a world class mountain bike park in the forest just a short 4km ride from The Folly.

The Folly offers a truly off-grid experience with a focus on being environmentally friendly. Our power comes from the sun, our water only comes from the rain that we collect in our own tanks, and the air is as fresh as it gets. Our cleaning products, guest amenity products (shampoo/conditioner/shower wash) have been sourced by fully Australian-owned, certified businesses who align to our ethos of doing as little harm to the environment as possible. This extends to other products such as the toilet paper and dishwashing and clothes washing products. We are genuine about reducing our footprint and as guests you too will be able to embrace and enjoy this way of life, albeit for a short time. The Folly is absolutely perfect for a healthy and relaxing time away to recharge your batteries - even for our locals!

Our cleanliness is the very highest standard as our previous guests have attested and The Folly is ready for your arrival. Stephen and Cindy Edwards, the owners and creators of The Folly will be your hosts and look forward to welcoming you to their special place.

The timber, stone and granite finishes create a warmth that beckons you inside to a space this is visually inspiring, beautiful, and will be all yours to enjoy. The words that we hear when people walk in to The Folly for the first time is, "wow".

Stairs lead you up to a loft bedroom (a kids paradise) with 4 single beds and plenty of floor space for playing games. Alternatively, a pull-out sofa bed can provide a second private bedroom for another couple.

The master bedroom features a comfortable queen sized bed and plenty of cupboard space if you're enjoying a longer stay.

The kitchen is equipped with a gas stove top, in-wall exhaust fan, wood-fired combustion stove, dishwasher and Nespresso coffee machine. In the cooler months, arrive to enjoy instant warmth from the gas log heater.

The living room has comfortable leather Chesterfield lounges and all guests have unlimited wifi access.

There is a great outdoor space on the outdoor patio which is ideal to take in the rolling hills in this peaceful setting.

Bookings of 3 or more nights receive a complimentary bottle of wine from a local winery for your enjoyment.

As we have taken over hosting our property from our property manager Kim, we thought it would be good capture some of the feedback from The Folly guests who have stayed during 2021:

"Wow what a find! A hand-crafted home (even with a book on how it was made) in a truly amazing location. A rare treat on Airbnb, a genuinely fantastic place. Plus really appreciated the personal touches like a bottle of local wine." Danial - July 2021

"Beautiful property in an amazing part of Victoria. And being pet friendly just made our stay all that more enjoyable." Jessica - July 2021

"What a beautiful place completely off the grid but with wifi! We had a lovely time and really relaxed. All in all it's a magical place." Kylie - June 2021.

"This is a relatively new custom built bespoke chalet style mountain house. It incorporates passive solar orientation, thermal mass wall for retention of heat, off-grid power, low wattage lighting, gas log fire, high efficiency washing machine, dishwasher and toaster. The place is great for six people and was ample for the two of us. We just spent a day and two nights at The Folly, which was just what we needed to break up a relatively long drive. Highly recommended." Peter - April 2021

"Great break away. Unique, beautiful accommodation. Comfortable and stylish. While off grid and very peaceful and relaxing was also in easy reach of several great country towns." - Nadine April 2021

"Great accommodation! My family and I stayed a week as our base to explore East Gippsland. Beds are comfy, all the amenities you need are there and the view of the rolling hills is beautiful. We even saw a wombat whilst on the deck area. We recommend for anyone wanting a relaxing getaway." - Julia April 2021

"Wonderful stay. The beautiful green rolling hills around us were so calming. We would love to stay again." - Chiffeni March 2021

"A lovely house in a beautiful part of Gippsland. No regrets, as it was central to many other places and offered a quiet recluse to rest and enjoy the land. Would love to come back soon." - Nathan March 2021

"The property is beautiful and peaceful. It's a great place to get away from the world and relax for a few days. I think the dogs enjoyed it more than we did!" - Liam March 2021

"Excellent property great spot." - Riley February 2021

"What a fantastic stay in such a beautiful house. We had a fantastic time thank you." - Paul February 2021

"Probably one of the most beautiful bnb I've lived in. Our family had a very enjoyable holiday here. If you ever go to this area, The Folly is a must visit!" - Fiona February 2021

"Awesome place to stay. We enjoyed the house and its neighbours (the cows). The place is clean and it has NBN." - Mark Anthony January 2021

"Myself and my husband spent Christmas and New Years at The Folly and couldn't recommend it highly enough. It is a perfect place to relax, enjoy the beautiful countryside and explore the lake region. The house is wonderful, stylish, comfortable and equipped with everything you need. We particularly enjoyed cooking with the wood fire oven and eating dinner outside with the amazing countryside views. If we could have stayed for a month, we would have!" - Gabriela January 2021

Where you’ll be

Nungurner, Victoria, Australia

Nungurner has direct access to the Gippsland Lakes. Nestled in between Metung and Lakes Entrance, this small rural lakeside hamlet provides the perfect location for a secluded get-away. There are bike riding trails, fishing, sailing, kayaking, wineries, and boutique eateries all within 30 minutes. At The Folly you can be as busy or as chilled as you want with so many options available at your secluded doorstep.

Metung is very much a fishing and boating town. Surrounded on three sides by water, the town is well serviced by a number of marinas and jetties, with several cruise operators catering for visitors. Safe swimming is available at Shaving Point and near the jetty along Metung's western coast. The town centre features a general store, a number of restaurants and cafes, and several speciality shops. The Metung Hotel, which dates back to 1873, is situated within the town's commercial centre and has direct water frontage onto Bancroft Bay and the adjoining wharf. A good way to get an overview of Metung is to walk the length of the boardwalk which hugs the town's eastern coastline. Starting in the town centre, the boardwalk extends northwards with scenic water views of Bancroft Bay and several marinas along the coast.
Take an 8 kilometre drive east of Metung along Nungurner Road, and then follow Nungurner Jetty Road to the shoreline of Lake King. This secluded oasis with a bush backdrop has a park with picnic shelters and BBQs that overlooks the water at Nungurner Jetty. There is a sandy beach area and boat ramp.

Lakes Entrance is situated on the edge of Ninety Mile Beach where the Gippsland Lakes meets the Southern Ocean. The town is well equipped with services and facilities for those enjoying their coastal getaway. Lakes Entrance is renowned as a seafood capital due to the large number of fishing trawlers operating in the area. Catch your own fish or savour the catches from fresh seafood shops around town.

Take a leisurely drive or cycle via the cycle way and explore Bruthen. Bruthen is a small rural village situated 24 kilometres north-east of Bairnsdale on the Great Alpine Road which continues on across the Great Diving Range to Mount Hotham, Bright and Wangaratta. Bruthen features a unique brewery. The concept for the Bullant Brewery Bruthen is simple: to pair the best onsite brewed beer with the best regionally sourced food. The Tambo River is located just to the south of town and it makes its journey into the Gippsland Lakes system via Swan Reach, entering Lake King north of the fishing village of Metung. The East Gippsland Rail Trail passes through Bruthen on its way between Bairnsdale and Orbost, following the route of the old railway, and is popular with walkers, bicyclists, and horse riders. The Fairy Dell Scenic Reserve is located west of Bruthen, accessed via Eleven Mile Road. This thick forested park features picnic areas and walking tracks through the temperate rainforest.

Take a day to experience some of East Gippsland's finest wineries. Guests who stay for 3 or more days are gifted a bottle of wine from Lightfoot & Sons Winery which is just one of many boutique vineyards just waiting for visitors to explore.

For a more energetic experience, the Colquhoun Mountain Bike trail is at your doorstep. A recent collaboration between the Gippsland Mountain Bike Club and the Victorian Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE) led to the official recognition of the trail network.
