Room in a home

Your own room in a home, plus access to shared spaces.
The Ballard French Salyer Suite is located on the second floor of The Salyer House, overlooking the river and the Bolling’s North Fork Veranda below. The room has a queen size bed, ceiling fan, refrigerator, Keurig, Smart TV with cable, and a unique private bath with a clawfoot tub and shower.

The space
The Salyer House is a historic house in downtown Whitesburg, Kentucky built by the Salyer family in 1924. It is one of many Sears and Roebuck homes in our community. The house has gone through various renovations in its time, the most recent being in 2021. Every detail was researched and planned with considerations taken to not only enhance the guest experience, but to also honor the history, legacy, and architecture of the home. We provide the best mattresses, pillows, linens, and towels to enhance your stay and overall experience.

You will experience a 1924 Sears and Roebuck house that has been completely restored in 2021 with guests in mind. There are six private suites, each having their own keyless entry as well as a keyless entry to get in the house. We have prepared a common area that we consider the “lobby”. Here, you will find a fully functioning kitchen with a bar area for guests to share. The living and dining areas work well together and give you ample space for any and all guests. The enclosed porch is set up café style, so pull up a chair, surf the web, or work at one of the tables all while enjoying your view of downtown Whitesburg. We ask that you maintain the cleanliness of the space in consideration of other parties staying in the house, especially the kitchen area and downstairs common half bath. This space is available to only registered house guests. This space is also available by reservation for meetings, receptions, and showers by non-overnight registered guests. Max guest capacity is 30 people. Also, available to our guests, is the gazebo on the hill, above the house. The vantage point from the gazebo is rare, and few have the opportunity to enjoy and appreciate downtown Whitesburg from this angle. Enjoy the free wi-fi throughout the home. Your stay will include a 10 dollar gift card to use towards a breakfast entrée at the Pine Mountain Grill.

Neighbourhood highlights

Steps from the front door of the house is Main Street. Here you will find a nice selection of locally owned restaurants, and various opportunities for live music. The Bolling’s North Fork Veranda is just next door and gives you another option for outdoor dining or workspace. If you want to get out and enjoy nature but want to stay close, the Tanglewood Trail is steps away. Here you will enjoy a four-mile paved walking track that was once our railroad.
