Our gorgeous 3 bedroom cottage in eclectic North Hobart offers a stylish, comfortable haven in a great location. Just two blocks from the bustling North Hobart cafe strip and walking distance to the city/waterfront, it is an ideal base to enjoy Hobart's food, history & culture including the must visit MONA.

The space

Our light and airy 3 bedroom heritage cottage sleeps 6 adults and is perfect for a weekend or extended getaway with friends or family.

Convenientally located just a 5 minute stroll to the bars and eateries of the North Hobart precinct and within walking distance of the city and waterfront.

Named for baby Jack, who was born and lived the first few years of his life in this brand new house 100 years ago, the cottage retains many original features of it's namesake's era. The lovely character of old Tasmanian Oak floorboards, ornate fire-places and picture rails are complemented with a fresh, neutral colour scheme and a mix of contemporary, and vintage furniture and colourful textiles.

Level access thoughout with no internal stairs.

The colourful living and dining space is a great place to unwind after a day out exploring the city. Enjoy a book from our mini library, a DVD or favourite tunes from your own device plugged into the retro radio/speaker unit. WIFI via NBN connection is included. The reverse cycle air-conditioner (Heat Pump) will ensure you are comfortable for your stay.

The lovely Tasmanian Oak beds were crafted here in Tasmania. All have really good quality, locally made mattresses, toasty warm electric blankets and there is ample heating via electric panel heaters.

The kitchen:
A fully equipped galley style kitchen is set up for self-catering. It's a great sunny spot to enjoy a quick breakfast before heading out for the day.

We provide: a variety of teas, fresh locally roasted Tascaffe coffee, milk, some breakfast supplies for your first morning and pantry staples like olive oil, condiments, salt & pepper.

There are fantastic local grocers and supermarkets nearby to stock up on fresh provisions or a multitude of eateries very close by.

The bathroom:
Compact with toilet, vanity and a shower over original deep enamel bath.
Quality SUKIN toiletries provided.
May not be suitable for guests with limited mobility.
The separate laundry has a front loader washer and washing powder provided.

A small newly landscaped rear courtyard with deck gets all day sun and provides a private space to enjoy a drink or BBQ and a secure place for children to play.

If you come with adventure equipment, the historic outhouse provides perfect undercover storage.

**We are a legitimate registered Visitor Accommodation premises which has been certified to comply with all building, local authority and fire safety regulations [Class 1B occupancy permit].

You will have the entire house including a private, secure rear courtyard to yourselves.

Interaction with guests

Enjoy the complete privacy of your own space. We live in the semi-detached house next door and are happy for you to knock on our door or contact us if you need anything. You may see us in the street coming and going. We'd be more than happy to give you some secret local tips if desired...

Other things to note

This is a NO SMOKING PROPERTY (both indoors and outdoors). Please do not book this property if anyone in your group smokes.

We strive to minimise our impact on the environment wherever possible.
We provide fresh linen and towels which are laundered without the use of bleach or harsh chemicals, dried by the sun and air, and are not ironed.
Shampoo, conditioner, body and hand wash without chemical nasties are provided in large bottles to minimise waste.
We use eco-friendly cleaning products.
We supply iCARE toilet paper made in Australia from 100% recycled paper without chlorine bleaching.
Heating is provided by an energy efficient Inverter Heat Pump.
Insulation is installed throughout the cottage to assist temperature regulation
A water saving front loader washing machine and clothes line are provided.
Water saving taps are fitted.
Gardens are maintained by tank water.

Strictly NO SMOKING anywhere on property. The house is semi-detached and in very close proximity to other houses. There is zero tolerance of smoking inside or outside due to smoke drift into neighbouring properties. If any one in your party is a smoker, please DO NOT BOOK THIS PROPERTY. Loss of bond plus any other costs associated with remediation and rehousing subsequent guests unable to stay during remediation may apply where guests have breached this rule.

We wholeheartedly welcome families and trust that you will clean up after your children and ensure that they respect the house. Please don't allow children to eat on the sofa or in bedrooms please.

Please clean up kitchen prior to check out- dishes thoroughly washed, dried and put away otherwise additional fees will apply.

Using additional beds without prior arrangement (greater than number of paying guests) increases our housekeeping costs significantly and we will be be required to deduct from the bond an extra person/s rate for each bed for the duration of stay.

No parking on property - Free parking is available on the street outside. 1-2 hr time limits apply Mon-Fri 8am-6pm with unlimited areas on opposite side of street.

A beautiful home, comfy rooms and a cheese board kindly provided. Definitely recommend and only a short cab ride if not up to walking the 25 mins into town.

Beautiful, cosy cottage made for a wonderfully relaxing getaway. Jane and Paul were very helpful and great to communicate with. Cottage is in a great location in North Hobart. An abundance of great cafés and restaurants only a short walk away. Highly recommend Jack's Cottage :)

The house is beautiful. So clean, such comfortable beds and special extra little touches here and there made the stay lovely. The cottage is like a big warm hug. Thank you again for everything Jane.

Jack's Cottage was such a beautiful home to stay in while we explored Hobart. The thoughtful gestures, like the cheese platter on arrival and boxes of toys and books for our daughter, were very much appreciated. We loved our time here and would definitely stay again.

We had a wonderful stay at Jack's Cottage while in Hobart for a wedding. It was superbly clean (we literally couldn't see one speck of dust!), modern and very comfortable. The neighbourhood is quiet and very close to North Hobart shops, cafes and restaurants. Jane was an amazing host - so accomodating and helpful, quick to respond and left some delicious goodies in the fridge. I would highly recommend staying at Jack's Cottage :)
