The space
*Please see note at the bottom of this section about heating and cooling in our home. Thank you!

Bedroom 1: The master bedroom has a remote-controlled queen-size bed, closet, desk, and direct access to the bathroom.

Bedroom 2: This bedroom has a queen-size bed and a closet.

Bedroom 3: This bedroom has bunk beds and a closet. We have a board game, books, toys, and coloring supplies, plus a fun chalkboard in the closet!

Living Room: The living room is equipped with a comfy couch and a 65" TV with Roku and access to Netflix, Prime Video, and Disney Plus. Spread your maps out on the big coffee table and plan your next hike!

Bathroom: The bathroom has a bath/shower combo. Comfy towels, soap, shampoo, conditioner, and toilet paper are provided.

Kitchen: In here you'll find a full-size fridge, microwave, oven/stove (please note that the oven handle is broken at the moment as we'll be replacing the oven soon; it's fully functional -- just grab from the side of the handle), blender, French press, basic kitchen equipment (pots, pans, baking sheets, cooking and eating utensils, electric kettle, storage containers, some spices/salt/pepper/oil, a paper towels, and coffee/tea. We have childproof locks available for the cabinets, as well as outlet covers, if needed.

Outdoor Spaces: Sit outside on the covered front porch or enjoy the small, simple deck on the back. We have a large grassy yard perfect for a game of tag or firefly catching. Pick blueberries off our bushes in the summer, and feel free to bring your bikes and hop on the Waynesville Greenway a block away.

Throughout the house, you'll find maps, maps, and more maps! If you're wondering how to get around a particular area, you can be pretty sure we have a map for that. We also have numerous brochures and local publications perfect for finding things to do and places to go.

Please note that cooling is via a window unit in the kitchen and fans throughout the house. We do find that the house stays quite cool in the summer! If you're warm, we suggest turning on the fans and even opening windows for a cross-draft. The window unit also works well. The home is heated via baseboard heating in the winter. The basement level has two mini-split units but all bedrooms are currently on the main floor.

If location makes your heart sing, you will love our home! We've included a basic overview below of what makes our neck of the woods so special, but if you have further questions, please ask! When you book, we'll send you our complete guide!

• 15 miles/30 minutes to the Cataloochee entrance of Great Smoky Mountains National Park, one of the quietest and most peaceful parts of the Smokies!. This is our personal Springboard to the Smokies for a reason! Excellent hiking; elk viewing; synchronous fireflies in the summer; and a rich history of the settlers who built a vibrant mountain community in the valley in the 1800s, including some of their log structures still standing today.

• 20 minute walk to downtown Waynesville, one of the most charming small town main streets in Western North Carolina! Complete with art galleries, restaurants, breweries, coffee shops, shopping, and more! History buffs may enjoy learning that this is the location of the last shot fired in the Civil War!

• Easy access to the Blue Ridge Parkway, America's favorite scenic drive, runs for 469 miles through 29 Virginia and North Carolina counties. Taking a leisurely drive on the parkway and stopping at scenic overlooks is a don't miss activity in the area.

• 5 minute drive to Lake Junaluska! Take a stroll around the lake, a meditative walk along the labyrinth, enjoy the rose garden or butterfly garden, rent canoes/kayaks/paddleboards, or buy a day pass to the outdoor pool overlooking the lake, which includes a round of mini golf and cornhole! You'll also find a lovely gift and ice cream shop open most days.

• Less than 5 minute walk to 3 restaurants: Los Amigos Mexican, Kornerstone Kafe, Kanini's Restaurant & Catering (excellent lunches and take home dinners to pop in the oven after a day of hiking!), plus less than 10 minute walk to Waynesville Pizza -- best pizza in town!

• Direct access 1 block away from the Waynesville Greenway, a 5.3-mile hiking and biking trail that winds its way alongside the streets of Waynesville and even down to nearby Lake Junaluska.

• 1 block away from the best playground in town. This thing is massive, with a wooden castle component, a state-of-the-art inclusive/all abilities playground (ask us for a video and we'll send you one!), toddler area, creek, dog park, disc golf course, basketball courts, open fields, and more.

• 14 miles / 25 minutes to Cataloochee Ski Area, a popular WNC destination where our winter guests will find skiing, tubing, snowboarding, and more!

• 25 miles / 45-60 minutes to Max Patch and Hot Springs. See one of the best sunsets in the area, soak in the tubs fed by our local hot springs, and check out one of our favorite hikes to see Native American pictographs!

• 30 miles / 30 minutes to Asheville, North Carolina! Get a taste of a vibrant, artistic mountain city just a short drive away from our vibrant, artistic mountain town.

We are an excellent springboard to incredible hiking, valleys, peaks, sunsets and sunrises, waterfalls, and so much more. If you need suggestions for your trip relevant to your needs and abilities, please let us know! We have abundant knowledge about the area and love to help! Coming soon: our Airbnb experiences for add-ons to your trip, which include historical, waterfall, and hiking experiences!
