Calm and convenient location

Guests say this area is peaceful and it’s easy to get around.
Crabapple Cottage has been lovingly renovated with visitors in mind. Inviting and spacious, this regional idyll is a welcome retreat after winery hopping, hiking in the Grampians or, a short stroll away, exploring TAMA Gallery, cafes and historic lunatic asylum. Enjoy a long lunch in the sun-filled kitchen or at the outdoor table nestled in a spacious garden setting. Curl up on the couch and chat with your companions or hunker down with a coffee and the TV.

The space
Crabapple Cottage is a sustainably run house with three roomy bedrooms, renovated kitchen and bathroom and a second toilet. Built in the 1930s with original art deco touches, the rooms are styled with vintage items that are beautiful but not precious.
Whip up memorable meals in the well-appointed kitchen with ceramic stove, oven and microwave, as well as dishwasher for easy clean up.
Wifi and a Firestick (digital connecting device) on the TV will keep you connected but there is plenty of reading to help you switch off.
Stay warm or cool through the seasons via two energy efficient split-level heating and cooling systems. If needed, keep extra toasty-warm with the electric blankets and small heaters in the bedrooms. Good-quality organic cotton bed linen and towels are provided in the rooms and eco-friendly cleaning products are used.
The designed, beautifully planted garden is spacious enough for throwing a frisbee and with multiple outdoor seating options. Conveniently situated 5 mins walk from the station, rail travellers will not need to carry bags too far before putting up feet and grabbing a cup of tea upon arrival.
For those with an electric car our new 3 phase 22KW car charger will allow a speedy recharge. Please note you will need to bring your own type 2 charging cable.

Guest access
There is a spacious drive on the property to accomodate cars that can be closed off with gates. A security camera on the driveway helps give peace of mind.

Neighbourhood highlights

The historic town of Ararat curves its way round gentle hills revealing wonderful views all around to the ancient volcanic landscape. The town has some charming buildings with Victorian and Art Deco gems. Amongst the Victorian buildings is the imposing Aradale Lunatic Asylum, where visitors can experience atmospheric tours. The Town Hall is a short walk away and contains the TAMA Art Gallery - The Textile Art Museum of Australia - a small but world class gallery. Alexandra Gardens are also close by. These are historic botanical gardens with a lake and exotic plants laid out in the 1860's by Baron Von Mueller - designer of the Melbourne botanic gardens. On the outskirts of Ararat is One Tree Hill - a steep drive up to a viewing area giving spectacular views all around with the Grampians in the background.

My wife lived in Ararat when she was a child. I have grown to share her affection for the town and our house is our holiday home, which we wish to share with others. We worked in horticulture and the garden is being developed.
