Stay in a private apartment in a quaint home tucked in the beautiful Atwood neighborhood. You'll have easy access to everything that makes Madison great - lakes, farmers markets, the UW, Olbrich Gardens, downtown, and lots of fabulous restaurants! Currently offering month+ rentals.

The space
This is a quirky space that was built by the original owner in the attic of the house as a way to make ends meet during the depression. It has been rented out as an apartment for many years and now is an Airbnb site. It is a cozy space with low 6'5" ceilings throughout most of the apartment (the ceiling slants down a bit on the sunporch). So if you're really tall or like to jump on the bed this may not be the space for you. There is one bedroom with a full sized bed. There is a second very small room (size of a walk-in closet) with a twin bed. This room has a curtain over the doorway for privacy, but no door. There is also a comfy couch, a trundle bed on the porch and I can bring up another mattress, if needed. For babes there is a pack n play available. The space has a full sized kitchen, a nice clean bathroom, a lovely living room and a sunporch with a nice play area set up for kiddos. There is also free wifi available.

Guest access
You will have a private entrance to your own apartment tucked in the quiet and beautiful Atwood neighborhood. There is a full kitchen that will be stocked with cooking essentials (coffee, tea, spices, oil). There is a lovely sunporch with a children's play area. There is also a small outdoor seating area near the side entrance, just for you. You are welcome to peak in the backyard and enjoy the gardens, but generally speaking the backyard space is for me and my son to hang out in. I will gladly share the bounty of the garden with you though! :) You also, of course, have access to all the great things about the Schenk/Atwood neighborhood (restaurants, parks, beaches, gardens, etc).

Other things to note
The kitchen is stocked with essentials but if there is something else you need just ask:)

There is street parking available.

I LOVE the Schenk/Atwood neighborhood! You're 3 blocks from Lake Monona, 3 blocks to Olbrich gardens and beach, 2 blocks to the busline (with a 15 minute direct trip to the capital/downtown), in walking distance to 3 parks, historic effigy mounds, and really great restaurants (everything from a vegetarian/vegan friendly diner, amazing Thai, a cupcakery, a fabulous deli, 2 brewpubs, great texmex, funky coffee shops, great local bars and the best pizza in Madison)! Almost all are offering take-out or curbside pickup now and many have outdoor seating options.
There is an amazing sledding hill a few blocks away as well (we are happy to share our sleds), a great free splash park up at Goodman Community Center, and access to B-cycles and bike paths if you want to bike around town. In non-COVID times there were lots of family friendly events happening (solstice celebrations, concerts in the garden, and annual street festivals). We shall see when those events return... In the meantime the many outdoor parks/spaces are safe and accessible.
My son has also been enjoying playing basketball with the portable hoop we put at the base of the driveway... you are welcome to shoot hoops when we are not out there (just ask for the ball).

I am an outgoing person who loves the outdoors, kids and celebrating the beauty of this world. I enjoy camping, gardening, paddling and traveling. I believe in community and volunteer in my sangha and with my son's school and have been involved in lots of urban agriculture projects locally. I have a daily meditation practice and try to cultivate peace and compassion in myself and my relationships. I have 2 boys - one 24 who lives a mile down the road in his own apartment, the other 12 and full of energy. I would love to have you visit Madison (it is a GREAT city) and would be happy to tell you about the many things for adults and kids to see and do here. I was a host with Airbnb a few years ago and am excited to open my home back up, meet new people and share all the fabulous things Madison has to offer. During the growing season I will have lots of produce to share. I work as a public health nurse and as you can imagine, life is pretty busy as a first responder in the pandemic. But I will try to make myself available as needed.

During your stay
I'm happy to give you your space (it is a private apartment after all) and also happy to connect if our schedules align. My 12 year old son and I live right below the apartment and are often working in the yard, playing basketball out front or cooking in the kitchen. Feel free to knock on the door or call anytime if there is a question or concern. I do ask that when we have face to face contact that we both mask.
