Nestled on the southern edge of Mamboo Island and engorged by the vast expanse of the Manning River, sits Clunes Lane Cottage. The islands original milking shed has undergone a significant transformation since its days of providing the local community with local dairy supplies.

Explore the 2 bedroom cottage and private sandy riverbank flats at your own pace or relax and unwind by the fireplace taking in the views and sunset over the mighty river.

The space
The cottage has been lovingly restored, tastefully decorated and enjoys views from every room. Settle in for the day and take in the fresh salty air and views on the beautiful sunny deck. If the weather is less than average, get comfortable on the linen couch by the fire.

If you love to cook (and are lucky enough to catch a fish from the riverbank) we have an equipped kitchen with everything you need to make the most out of your catch. We also have some cook books to get you inspired and stock a basic pantry with ground coffee, a variety of teas, sugar, salt, pepper and olive oil.

Historically Harrington has been a sleepy fishing village at the mouth of the Manning River. In recent times the town has grown dramatically and as a result housing estates, shopping villages and a golf course have changed (and modernised) the nature of the town. In the nineteenth century a series of dangerous sand bars off the coast at the mouth of the river resulted in a number of vessels being shipwrecked while attempting to enter the Manning River. In recent times a long breakwater has been built to alleviate the problem. However in the nineteenth century and the early twentieth century the boats entering the Manning River were brought across the bars by pilots familiar with the dangers and the shallow shoals. Today the locals fish the waters near Harrington and bring in good catches of snapper, bream, blackfish and whiting. Beyond Harrington is the charming fishing village of Crowdy Head with its 1878 lighthouse and its substantial fishing fleet.
