Where you’ll be

Rothbury, England, United Kingdom

With its stunning natural landscapes and rich heritage, Northumberland is a truly beautiful place to visit. If you’re planning a day trip, short break or longer stay, there’s plenty to keep you entertained, not least the history-drenched castles that populate the region and showcase its rich heritage. Hectors house is in Rothbury a market village, nestled in the heart of the Northumberland Coquet Valley by the Simonside Hills. The meandering river Coquet provides for beautiful walks and a relaxing spot of nature watching.
Rothbury hosts many local traditional attractions such restaurants, country pubs and cafes offering local cuisine and specialities. The Rothbury music festival held in summer is a great event to showcase local music and dance tradition. There are walks in the Simonside hills with beautiful panoramic views of the borderlands and the Cheviots. Rothbury Golf Course is a picturesque, 18-hole course that nestles in the heart of Northumberland’s Coquet Valley and is within easy walking distance of the historic village of Rothbury.

The Northumberland Coast Path is part of the North Sea Trail which is more than just a path; it offers a way to explore the natural and historical heritage of the communities that live along its shores. Walk in the footsteps of saints, enjoy the dramatic landscapes and precious wildlife of the coast and learn how the North Sea has shaped the lives of people living beside it.

Visit the coastal villages and areas of outstanding natural beauty such as fishing of Craster famous for smoked kippers, Seahouses with boat trips to the Farne islands, and Beadnell with many opportunities for coastal walks or bird watching.
Holy Island is a must see, this mysterious tidal island off Northumberland’s coast becomes inaccessible when the tide washes over its causeway. When it’s safe to cross the causeway, expect to find charming cafes, an ancient priory, and a castle that teeters on the coastline. Steeped in history, visit Lindisfarne priory ruins and museum where stories and artefacts reveal stories from 635AD where Saint Aidan came from Iona and chose to found his monastery on the island of Lindisfarne. From here it is said the Christian message flourished throughout the world. As such it has become a centre of pilgrimage for some 650,000 visitors to the Island each year, with many choosing to walk 'the Pilgrim's Path' at low tide. Marked by tall wooden poles, this path can be seen from the main causeway. Holy island is known for its peace, tranquility and history and of course local beverages.
Hectors house offers a warm base to explore the rich delights of Northumberland and we hope you have a fabulous holiday.
