Come visit the cottage on the farm! This river property is located in Summers County, the southern gateway to the beautiful New River Gorge National Park. The two-bedroom cottage is a perfect getaway for solo adventurers, couples, or a small family. River access to the Greenbrier River is provided via a short walk down a steep but walkable camp road. Enjoy watching various wildlife in the area while relaxing beside the longest untamed river in the Eastern United States.

The space
The historic Big Bend Tunnel and John Henry Park are located only ½ mile upstream from our cottage (a 2.5 mile drive). Historic Hinton is a beautiful WV mountain town also located nearby. The local area is packed with activities suitable for everyone. Historic locations and antiquing can be found nearby. There are multiple state parks nearby and outdoor activities galore in this area of West Virginia. In the winter you can have a cozy getaway close to great skiing at Winterplace and Snowshoe. Whether you come to just stay and relax or get outside and adventure, let us be your home away from home!

Your hosts are located next door, you may see them walking their friendly goats or doing chores on the property. Your hosts will provide you with privacy, but please feel free to contact us if you need anything. This is the first house built of Bacon Falls Road. The original cabin portion of it was rolled down a hill on logs to it’s present location! Over the years, it has been added on to and remodeled to a more updated interior while keeping its truly rustic charm. Though there are neighbors in the area, it is a peaceful neighborhood where the wildlife abounds and you can enjoy a quiet country visit. Keep your eyes to the sky as large birds of prey and majestic Bald Eagles frequent the area. There are also ample wild birds and hummingbirds present during the season.

For those times when you don’t want to venture out and explore the surrounding area, you can stay on the property and enjoy a small front porch, an unattached deck in the backyard with a firepit, or venture down to a sitting area beside the Greenbrier River. In the home, you will find a TV with two local channels and a DVD player for your entertainment. The home is equipped with a washing machine and dryer to take care of your laundry needs. The kitchen is stocked with basic cooking supplies and a drinking water cooler.

Other things to note:

We live at the end of a narrow one-mile gravel road through a quiet country neighborhood. It has 2-way traffic. Ditches are present on each side of the road, and there is a small but steep hill before our property. Please respect a 10 MPH speed limit when visiting the cottage. No ATVS, trailers, or motorcycles are allowed. We have a carport in front of the cottage for you to park under.

Unplug and enjoy the beautiful location as WIFI is not currently available to us at the home. Cell phone service may be hit or miss here as well. As of now, we know that Verizon, and US Cellular work pretty well and we will update carriers as more guests tell us about their service here.

The home is supplied with well water. In this area, sulphureous water is common in ground wells. You will sometimes smell this in the well water at the cottage. The water has been tested and is safe for use. There are several sulfur springs nearby which people travel to just to get some of the famed WV sulfur water! There is a water cooler provided for drinking water as well.

The driveway to the property is a shared access to a small camp below the property. It is not often in use, but please do not block the driveway in case it is needed. When walking down to the river, stay to the right. Feel free to use our sitting area and firepit to relax, watch nature, or fish. A West Virginia state fishing license is require to fish in the Greenbrier River.
