The Rutherglen Convent offers unique group accommodation in a thoughtfully-restored building that was once a boarding house, school and convent. Gracious, steeped in history and built circa 1927, the property is located in the heart of the Rutherglen wine-making district. Positioned within 550m of the main street you will be spoilt for choice with cafes, bakeries, wine bars and 3 pubs all within walking distance.

The space
With its Gothic inspired architecture and old world charm, the building is spread over two expansive levels with the ground floor featuring a formal entry, kitchen, laundry and rooms with soaring ornate ceilings, fireplaces (disused) and leadlight windows. The upper level is accessed via two timber staircases and offers 10 bedrooms, boarding room style bathroom with 22 basins, 4 bathrooms (5 toilets in total) and access to the elevated balconies offering 360 degree views of the surrounds. The ground floor features an outdoor grassed area with rock seating surrounding a fire-pit, perfect for those cooler nights. Whilst the house can accommodate up to 20 guests, parties and events are not permitted.

Located approximately 3 hours from Melbourne, 35 minutes from Albury/Wodonga and a 2 hour drive from the snowfields, the township of Rutherglen is located in the tourism hub of North East Victoria. Originally a gold-mining town in the mid-19th century, Rutherglen has since developed into a major wine-producing region, with more than 15 wineries all located within a short drive from the town centre.
The main street of Rutherglen maintains its historical charm with most of the shop fronts retaining the same look they had a century ago. Attractions within the town include Lake King which is surrounded by Apex Park and Rutherglen Park, as well as the historical wine-bottle-shaped water tower.
