Peace and quiet

Guests say this home is in a quiet area.
Fig Tree House is like stepping into your own private oasis. It is a spacious house surrounded by a lush established garden. You can do yoga in the meditation room, sip wine on the terrace, cook up a storm in the kitchen, read a book in the sunroom, soak in the bath or curl up on a sofa in the sitting room next to the fire and dream. Fig Tree House is a place to relax in after exploring the High Country. It is also a vintage house with personality that comes with age.

The space
Fig Tree house was initially built in the early 1950's with an additional wing built in the 1960's and was originally named Marama. We were fortunate to purchase it from the original owners. We renovated and lived in it for three years while building our current off grid house - Howes Creek Homestead designed by Kirby Architects which you can view on Pinterest. We kept true to its original character during the renovations and tried to find the balance between modernising it ( the bathrooms were completely remodelled) and gave a facelift to the remainder of the house as we loved it for its quirky features that we felt made it such a happy home.

It is located in an established high point of town and you can see views of Mount Buller when you arrive. It is a beautiful and spacious house with views of the established garden throughout. As soon as you enter the front door you are greeted by a large entrance/ hallway and views to the internal courtyard garden.

The sitting room has french doors that open out onto a grape vine covered terrace where you can enjoy a drink. The sitting room has a fireplace to sit next to where you can play a game, chat or read a book. It also has a smart TV if you want to kick back on the sofa and catch up on a movie.

The garden is a great space for children.
It was established back in the 1950’s and is a botanical feast. Pick a lemon in season to add to your gin and tonic or some fresh warm figs in the warmer months.

It is lovely to lie on the comfy sofa in the sunroom and read a book or just gaze out the window into the enclosed garden. The meditation/yoga room is for quiet contemplation.

The kitchen is set up for preparing delicious food and you can chat to friends as they sit around the table having wine and cheese before dinner. It has an AGA but isn’t currently in use. It does have a 900cm Westinghouse gas/electric oven that is fabulous for cooking. The kitchen is well equipped. There is also a BBQ on the terrace. You can also curl up on the window seat with a book and a cup of tea!

The 1960's wing has a bedroom and ensuite. The queen size bed has lovely linens and cotton sheets. The ensuite has a deep bath that looks out onto the garden and is lovely to soak in while contemplating the outdoors. All bathrooms are supplied with soap dispensers and organic shampoo and conditioner. The 1950's wing has two bedrooms and a shared bathroom. One bedroom has a queen size bed with a linen doona cover and cotton sheets that look out onto the internal courtyard and lush gardens. The second bedroom has two single beds with all cotton bedding. It’s a bright and sunny room. The forth bedroom is outside and is like being in a tree house. It has cotton bedding. It is situated off the back terrace and is accessed from there. It is small and would be more aptly described as a sleepout. It has heating and a fan for cooling in Summer. There is also a desk in there.

The laundry/mud room is conveniently located on the back terrace next to the kitchen and is a good spot to leave skis and has plenty of room for your pet to sleep. There is a bed for your pet.

The house retains many of the original features. We have provided DVD's, books and games to make you stay enjoyable. It is an easy walk to all the town attractions. Fig Tree House is a great space for all ages. There is a nook for every guest so you aren’t on top of each other. It will easily accommodate families, couples or a group of friends.

Guest access
Fig Tree House is very well located. It is an easy walk to town where you can explore our great shops and cafes. It is a short to the local oval for some exercise or, in the warmer months to take a swim in our fantastic outdoor Mansfield Pool complex. It is a quick walk down the street to go for a early morning walk around the wetlands. It is located in a quiet residential street in the old part of Mansfield. Views of Mt Buller greet you as you step out the front door!

Other things to note
While we do welcome pets as we have dogs and understand they are an important part of the family, they need to be kept out of the main house. The laundry is located outside the back door on the terrace and will easily fit a dog bed and the door can be closed to keep your dog secure at night. Please clean up any dogs business and place in the outside bins. We want to continue to welcome pets so it will be beneficial to keep these rules. The Botanical gardens in town is a leash free area and is about a 20 minute walk.
Security cameras have been installed outside for security of the property when guests are not staying. They can be turned off for guests to respect guests' privacy during their stay.
Also note firewood is only supplied during the cooler months of April - September.

My work: Accountant/ Primary Producer/Small business owner
I spend too much time: Gardening @Phosphate_hill
I was originally from Melbourne. I have lived in Mansfield for many years with my husband and three children. We are involved in operating a long held family business that involves agricultural and retail. I studied Commerce at Monash University and practiced as an accountant but have changed direction to focus more on the farm and providing great experiences for our guests. We live in an off grid house on the farm property and run predominantly sheep. We try to be as self sufficient as is practical. We have had many friends and family to stay so I have a lot of experience in hosting! I have travelled all over the world with my family and friends and seek out the best stays and experiences. I have extensive knowledge of many activities that makes living here fun and want to share that knowledge with visitors to the area so they too can have a memorable experience. I hope to have people leave feeling better than before they arrived!
