Iconic mid-century architecture meets fresh interior design at this cool family retreat in esteemed neighborhood near downtown Fredericksburg. The 1960s home has undergone a complete and sympathetic renovation, preserving the best of the bygone era, while supporting the modern lifestyle.

The space
Rich cobalt doors open to reveal a view of the central courtyard, complete with swimming pool, firepit, and lush landscaping. On one side lies an open living area comprised of a full kitchen, coffee bar and dining space, alongside a cozy lounge with velvet sectional, original stone fireplace, reading nook, smart tv, books, games, Netflix and a powder room. Along the other side are three bedrooms and two baths, all meticulously outfitted with modern furnishings, fresh art, crisp linens, and ample closet space.

My family lives just a few blocks away, with our Wheaten Terrier, in a lovingly restored Mid-century rambler. We are fond of the beach, good manners, Sunday brunch, and wearing our leiderhosen and dirndles to the Oktoberfest.
When I travel, I put as much emphasis on choosing the accommodations, as choosing the destination, and consider my temporary living space a fundamental part of the experience. I opened The Roadrunner in 2007, with hopes of creating a beautiful, original, and inspiring space for like-minded travelers to hang their vacation hats.
