Gertude’s apartment is a petite yet chic, 1 bedroom apartment suitable for one person or a couple of people that like sharing a queen size bed. It is an original shop-top apartment. Neat and clean simple living without the mod cons - no aircon. Located above Takeawei ceramics store on Gertrude St. in Fitzroy it’s the perfect place to put up your feet after a long day exploring Melbourne, with galleries, museum, shops, restaurants and bars all within walking distance or a tram at your door.

The space
The whole upstairs apartment is for your private use including kitchenette, shower, wc and one bedroom plus open plan lounge/dining and the cutest little back verandah. It’s a humble artsy apartment decked out with work by Australian artists and designers that will have you craving more time in Australia’s bohemian capital, Melbourne. Most pieces are for sale including artworks, ceramics and furniture, so if you find something you want to take home pop in and see the staff downstairs.

Guest access
Contactless - Access is via the private side entrance, key code for lock box upon check-in - please note this is a shop top with limited access, stairs only at the back and a balcony so unfortunately it is not safe for kids (please do not request). Our retail store is downstairs. Pop in through the front entrance and say hi if you wish, the staff are very friendly and helpful if you have any questions.

Other things to note
This is an old building and original space with a small reno to the bathroom and decked out with Australian design. It is a building with a great history as the original home of the Koori information centre on Gertrude st.
The beauty of this apartment is the history and its location.
If it’s hot we don’t have aircon - we have floor fans.
If it’s cold we have a space heater and lots of warm bedding.
We have some small amount of basic supplies but for everything else there is a foodworks on Gertrude and a health food store. There is a laundrette on Brunswick street for longer stays.
For commercial bookings/ photo shoots please contact us with details and day rates for approval before booking.

Owner of Takeawei Ceramics, pottery teacher, I live on the surfcoast and have Gertrude’s apartment as a place I’d like to stay in when in Melbourne. I love handmade objects, art galleries, eating out, supporting local small business wherever I am.
