Firefly is our holiday farmhouse set on a 4 acre hill overlooking the Revdanda River & Estuary a few hours south of Mumbai.
The Farmhouse is in rural Maharashtra, just under 30 minutes inland from Alibaug Town. There are two ways of getting to the property :
1. A one hour drive from the Mandwa Jetty which is across the Bay - by the 50 minute Ferry or a 20 minute speedboat - from the Taj Hotel in Colaba.
2. A three hour drive South of Mumbai.
We are within 30 minute drive of Kashid Beach, 20 minutes from the Revdanda 16th Century Jesuit Monastery ruins and the remains of Shivaji's Temples. We're 25 minutes inland from Alibaug.
Firefly includes three air conditioned cottages with a total of 5 air conditioned rooms - the Poolside Cottage with two rooms, the Glass Cottage with views over the Revdanda Valley, and the Gatekeeper Cottage with 2 rooms.
Firefly has a 12.5 metre infinity pool with a view over the valley and Creek to the Revdanda bridge and the sea beyond it. There are 300 + books, along with games, satellite TV, a Sony PS3 and a bunch of games, DVD's and an open kitchen & barbecue beside the pool for guests to use. Sadly wifi hasn't made it out to us yet, although there's half decent 3G on most networks. The Poolside terrace includes an open wood fireplace for December / January nights.
We do all our own cooking on site, and would encourage our guests to bring their food and drink from Mumbai & Alibaug and cook it in the fully operational Poolside Kitchen and barbecue. The Firefly staff will be able to source some limited, but not particularly brilliant, ingredients locally (basic vegetables, mutton, fish, seafood), as well as food from the Malvani restaurants in Alibaug.
If you would like us to arrange for meals to be cooked on site, we will need a minimum 1 week's notice to organise cooks from the local village to be present during your stay. A word of warning - the food will be fairly basic : rice, dal, local vegetable, fish & chicken curries, chapattis. The cost will be Rs 2,500 per day for the two cooks and whatever the local cost of ingredients is for your party. Dalip will keep a count and present a bill at the end of each day, or at the end of your stay, whichever works best for you.
We do keep cokes, bottled water, milk, butter, and food basics on site which will be charged to you, along with whatever extras you have ordered from Dalip, at the end of your stay at the local retail rates. Dalip and his team will be happy to source other locally available things for you given adequate notice - although fresh coffee, decent wine and spirits just aren't available locally, best to bring them from Mumbai.
The kitchen is stocked with all the usual basics - oil, olive oil, garlic, herbs, spices, condiments, salt / pepper, tea, milk - please feel free to use whatever you see in the cupboards and fridge. There is a washing machine on site and fresh towels and sheets are also provided.
We'll mail through a Manual with more details, directions and phone numbers once you book
There are dogs at Firefly - Skylar the young Alsatian / Cocker Spaniel / Great Dane half breed (she's small, black and very good natured in case you're wondering) and other assorted waifs. Don't hesitate to ask Dalip to keep them at the bottom of the property if you're nervous with dogs. Otherwise, they're both great with kids and other dogs. Try to keep them, and the chickens, out of the pool.
There are a couple of lovely blogs online by guests that have stayed that will give you more info and loads of photos from their perspective. If you search for 'Chuzai living Firefly' and 'the trippy mom firefly' you should find them.
Finally, do please have a read of the 'House Rules' here on the Firefly Airbnb page before you book.
