We had a wonderful stay at Richard's house in Phippsburg. We spent the week enjoying beautiful days at Popham Beach with our 2-year old, and the cool August evenings by the fireplace in the living room at Richard's house. Some things we wished we had known before we went: it's SOOOOOO buggy! We wished we had brought our screen tent so we could spend some time outside. Every time we went to the car, our daughter got 3-4 more bug bites. Bug spray, Calamine lotion and benadryl are essential. We also wished we had brought a little grill or hibachi or something, because we assumed there would be a grill and there wasn't. (Richard doesn't advertise a grill, we just didn't notice that in advance.) There also were no large frying pans- which was a huge bummer. There were 2 very small frying pans, big enough for one egg each. So we came with a full week's worth of groceries, pancake makings, meat to grill, stir fry etc- and had to borrow a frying pan from a friend who lived locally. We did e-mail Richard to ask about the frying pans and he said that he had just purchased a new set of pots and pans at the beginning of the summer. I assume someone must have walked off with them earlier in the summer because they were definitely not there. (It's REALLY bad Karma to steal from an AirBnB house.) We also wished we had brought a baby gate because the basement stairs are not closed off by a door. We were really glad we brought our Netflix password and our ROKU (and remote!). The cable is basic, and though we are not big tv watchers, we do like to watch tv on vacations. We also brought our own sheets, pillows and blankets for a little taste of home. The basement futon was one of the most comfy beds in the house, but the basement was kind of musty, so we didn't want to spend any time down there. There is an ok futon in the living room. Don't plan on sleeping on the couch in the living room, it's very very old and uncomfortable, it wasn't even really comfortable for watching tv. We wished that comfy futon from the basement was in the living room. There is a pull out couch on the sun porch, but we never pulled it out to see if it was comfortable because the sun porch was kind of hot and 2 of the sliding glass doors had no screens- so we didn't open them because of the bugs. We were super glad we brought an extra fan. The windows in Richard's house are so lovely and let in tons of glorious sunlight, but it made the house a little hot. We learned that if you leave the fans on during the day (Richard has 2 working fans) when you are at the beach, it isn't too hot in the late afternoon when...

Very comfortable house in a secluded, wooded area. Convenient to places of interest as possible in rural Maine. Very quiet, good view of Penobscot Bay from deck. Would definitely use again.
