HELLO! Thanks so much for stopping by! Camp Kulning is a one-acre property located in the Macedon Ranges, which backs onto the Lauriston forest. In addition to the tram and cottage accommodation, it includes a retro tiki bar, undercover BBQ, campfire area with cast iron cooking equipment for fireside snacks, and is surrounded by fairy lights which looks magical once the sun goes down.

The W-Class tram (aka Jean Claude Van Tram) was in operation between the 1920s and 1980s, and has recently been transformed (tramsformed?) into accommodation. The lounge area has a wood fire, comfy chairs, bar cart, books and board games. The bedroom has a queen bed with electric blanket, and a very efficient split system aircon / heater which flows throughout the tram. The kitchen is a simple set up with bar fridge, portable hot plates, sink and a breakfast bench. It's stocked with pots and pans, toaster, kettle, crockery etc. The bathroom has a shower and basin, and in the drivers cabin there's an environmentally friendly waterless (and odourless!) compost toilet. Never fear, it just looks like a regular toilet.

The cottage is on the same property just 30 metres from the tram. It's a cosy little space with a potbelly fire and split system aircon/heating. The kitchen has an oven, fridge, microwave plus a dining table which seats 4 people. It's stocked with pots and pans, toaster, kettle, crockery etc. The cottage bedroom sleeps 2 in a double bed, and leads through to the ensuite style bathroom.

It's the perfect home away from home to explore beautiful Macedon Ranges and Victoria's spa country. Kyneton, Daylesford, Hepburn Springs, Trentham, Woodend, Hanging Rock, Castlemaine, Malmsbury, Turpins Falls and Trentham Falls are all within half hour drive.

If you're considering staying at Camp Kulning, that is wonderful! Thank you! However please keep a few things in mind: The tram was built in 1926 so is 95 years old. It has some wear and tear as you’d expect, but adds to its charm. Although the property backs onto the forest, it's in a small residential area and located just off a road which connects Kyneton to Daylesford and other nearby towns. It's perfectly placed for exploring Macedon Ranges and surrounds, but unfortunately isn't the right fit for anyone looking for absolute seclusion (or anyone wanting to make a lot of noise). It's located in the country, you'll probably come into contact with bugs and your shoes are likely to get dirty. There’s no TV or internet connected to the property, phone reception can be patchy on cloudy days. Please don't expect anything fancy or luxurious - it's furnished with old treasures found in op shops. The property is no-frills, ramshackle and rustic. It's also unique and fun, and the perfect place for anyone looking to switch off and relax.

"like something out of a Wes Anderson movie... a tiny country amusement park" - AWOL

"Sleeping in a tram has never been so appealing" - Broadsheet

"A true forest-bound getaway. It's where those suffering waves of wanderlust and a good dose of wonder go to sooth their souls and connect with the great outdoors" - Countryphiles

Guest access
Guests will have exclusive use of the entire property.

Other things to note
Sorry no outdoor fires allowed from December until April due to fire danger season.

There are 2 dams on the property, one is fenced off and one isn't. Please be careful around them, especially if staying with children, as they do collect water over winter.

Different rates apply for commercial, professional and promotional photography / videography. When making an enquiry, please advise if your stay is for any purpose other than a holiday. Thank you!

Location

There are (incredibly lovely) neighbours living close to the tram, so unfortunately it isn't the right fit for those looking for absolute seclusion OR for anyone looking party and make a lot of noise. Although Camp Kulning backs onto the forest, it is in a residential area and is located just off a road which connects Kyneton to Daylesford and other nearby towns. Please view the map to get better idea of where the property is situated to ensure it's what you have in mind.

Hello! I'm Angela. I'm a publicist, horticulture student, airbnb host and a mum. In my spare time I can be found sitting around campfires, pottering around the garden and rummaging through junk shops.
During your stay
I’ll say a quick hello and show you around the property upon arrival, and then the place is all yours. I live just a few minutes away if needed at any time.
