A thoughtfully renovated 3 bedroom terrace/rowhouse in Toronto's famous Kensington Market with original architectural elements complemented by authentic MCM decor. The kitchen is designed and equipped for people who love to cook. In the dining room there's a gas fireplace to keep you cozy on chilly nights. In back is a landscaped patio so you can enjoy Toronto's warm summer evenings. This unique home is quiet, spacious, comfortable, and close to everything. Perfect for a couple or small family.
The space
This charming house is located at the end of a narrow pedestrian mews that's surprisingly quiet, despite being only steps from many colourful shops and cafes. Totally refurbished in 2019, this 1,100-sf home has its own entry off the street and a private courtyard garden in the rear.
It features restored cast-iron radiator heating, new hardwood floors, custom tilework, a gas fireplace, and heat pump air conditioning. The main floor is furnished with an eclectic but tasteful mix of mid-century modern and contemporary decor, with original artwork and artistic touches throughout. There's a 43” flatscreen HDTV in the living room with a Bose sound bar. The house is equipped with ultra-high-speed internet and has two Sonos Bluetooth speakers.
The kitchen is fully kitted out with new appliances, including a SS gas stove, a bottom freezer fridge, a dishwasher, microwave, and Breville espresso machine. High quality cookware is provided, as well as many small appliances (mixer, blender, rice cooker, toaster etc.), and quality dishes, glassware, and cutlery for eight. The dining room has solid teak furnishings, dimmable pendant cast glass lighting, and an Italian-tiled, gas fireplace.
Just outside the kitchen is a professionally designed back garden, complete with an Ontario-quarried sandstone patio and an overhead hop arbor, along with flower beds, a gas BBQ, landscape lighting and a built-in garden shed. This space is furnished seasonally with patio furniture so you can enjoy cool drinks and dinner outdoors over Toronto’s lovely, long, warm summer evenings. (You won’t believe you’re only 2 kilometres from the City’s iconic CN tower - once the tallest building in the world!)
Please note: the garden is a "common area," shared with a single guest in the lower suite. We choose all our guests with care, based on their appreciation of respectfully sharing spaces like this, so guests can expect to meet others who share this perspective.
The interior spaces in this upper suite are described it in detail below, but FIRST, we need to ask that you read this listing in entirety, including the section, "Things to Know." Then, once you're ready to proceed towards booking, please use the "Message Host" option to introduce yourself and your party and to provide a brief outline of the purpose of your visit. We ask that you do NOT hit the red "Reserve" button until we have had a chance to chat. Thank you.
There are three comfortable bedrooms upstairs (with queen, double and single beds) and a spacious bathroom with ample storage and opening clerestory windows. The bathroom features a heated tile floor, a walk-in glass shower with European fixtures, a heated towel rod and wallpaper designed in the 1960’s by renowned Swedish artist Dagmar Lodén.
The bright and airy upstairs has new wood flooring and 100% wool carpet. The hemlock plank ceiling has an opening skylight with a retractable shade to keep the house bright but cool in summer. All bedding and linens are high-quality cotton.
The basement offers ample storage. There is also a laundry area, complete with a washer and dryer, drying racks, a utility sink, and an ironing board and iron.
Like the garden, the laundry area is shared with the single guest in the lower suite. Suitable for a couple, or couple with one or two children, this house was once the family home of the current owner, who undertook its careful restoration.
Please note that there is extremely limited parking in the Market, and parking on Fitzroy Terrace is restricted to drop-off/pickup or off and on-loading only. There is a public parking lot just two blocks away; however, this house is most suitable for a couple or small family without a private vehicle.
Guest access
We will not be available to meet you in person but are available by phone, text, or email to answer any questions or explain anything about the house or the neighbourhood. Local contacts can meet you at the house to help, should you require.
Other things to note
Our take on Airbnb:
The Airbnb website states, “Airbnb is a community based on connection and belonging”...a lofty vision, but the underlying concept is that Airbnb is more than just a portal to quick and easy accommodations.
People choose Airbnb for many reasons; many prefer an Airbnb to a hotel, especially for long term stays. Price is definitely a factor but so is the chance to stay in an environment with personality, a place that meets your needs while allowing you to relax and feel completely at home.
We believe that the Airbnb experience is based on the relationship between host and guest. This comes with an expectation for more considerate, personalized interactions than what one usually has in hotels. We've chosen to offer our guests a chance to stay in our home--a choice that comes with a level of trust and respect--and an expectation that this will be reciprocated.
Our house has high speed Wi-Fi but it’s still a 150-year-old home in an historic part of the city. We’re delighted to welcome guests who appreciate it as a lovely, private house with many places to set up a computer, but without a full-time, dedicated office/workspace.
Thanks for your review and consideration!

Neighbourhood highlights
Kensington Market is one of Toronto's most vibrant, distinctive multicultural neighbourhoods. The original market dates to British settlement in the 1790s, after which it experienced repeated waves of immigration from many countries, with each culture leaving its mark.
Dozens of vintage clothing stores, produce stands and restaurants line the Market's narrow streets, selling some of Toronto's best fresh produce, meats, fish, cheeses, and ethnic foods. The eclectic architecture of Kensington Avenue houses many cafes and music venues and serves as the backdrop for performances and festivities that run from early spring to late fall.
