The space

We call this cozy apartment “Sakura” because of the majestic 120+ year old Sakura tree right outside of the balcony across the small street. During sakura (cherry blossom) season it fills the room with a wonderful pink glow. During the rest of the year the room is blessed with beautiful sunshine from the South East - a rare and precious commodity in Tokyo. We’ve appointed the apartment with all new beds, linen, appliances, breakfast bar, seating etc., in addition to several authentic antique pieces dating from the same late Meiji era of the sakura tree.

In form and function the apartment is a modern Japanese 1 bedroom with kitchen and fully separate bath, sink, and toilet. It can comfortably accommodate one, two or even three guests with a double bed and rollout bed. The kitchen is fully equipped including safe and modern IH stovetop, new refrigerator, and microwave+convection+toaster oven. Ladies will surely appreciate the wide shampooing sink. The large western sized & styled toilet is equipped with a modern bidet and washlet. A washing machine with hot air dryer is installed for your laundry needs. There is a double closet space for hanging clothes, including a western style iron and ironing board.

Some unique provisions include secure in-building luggage storage for after-checkout / pre-flight storage, high Euro double bed with heated top, Bluetooth surround sound speaker, USB charging suite, and complimentary freshly roasted organic coffee. Unlike most other apartments, this unit has excellent sunlight during the day, and Japan's sun rises very early! To counter that, and afford sleep during the late morning and day if needed, there are metal shutters on the main windows to darken the room, in addition to the thick sun blocking draperies. In short if you suffer a spell of jet lag, you can make it a very dark room to sleep.

Interaction with guests

We live moments away, so if you need anything or issues arise, we'll be there! Otherwise we're non-intrusive, and you'll likely only see us doing daily freshening around the property.

Check-out is 12:00 PM (noon). We like to say Goodbye and wish you luck on your journey but if there isn't a chance to do so there is a key drop at the door.

Other things to note

The apartment is equipped with a new washer that has a heated air dryer function, but please keep in mind it runs on Japanese power which is low voltage/low frequency for safety. This means the drying function won't operate like it does elsewhere in the world with high heat drying, and is insufficient for drying jeans, large loads, and heavy cottons. For this reason we ask that jeans, large loads, and heavy cottons be dried on the clothes rail outside on the balcony.

A minor clarification on “Hot Tub” …. the apartment has a Japanese hot water heater (max 75° C), and a deep bath tub (ofuro). In Asia it implies “Hot Tub”, while Westerners sometimes think a "Hot Tub" is a Jacuzzi. I’ve marked “Hot Tub” as “yes” otherwise my Asian guests seem to think it has no hot water. For my American friends - please don’t have expectations of lounging in a Jacuzzi naked with 8 friends drinking Champagne & jamming out to the Bee Gees.

It is nice and handy which ever way you come. If you travel from Ikekuburo station east gate exit. You can jump on a (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) bus. Just get off at the stop just after The Family Mart. The street to walk up is between the Sukiya chain restaurant and family mart. Head to second street on your right , walk straight to the end on the corner is The Valencia. A mustard coloured building. Plenty of places to eat or cook yourself. Shops , bigger style down Ikekuburo. Trains to Shibuya direct from there.

Sakura is spacious by Japanese standards and is even better than the photo representation on Air BnB. This is due to the bedding being changed. The sheets and blanket are a very attractive colour and really appeal to my taste in decorating. They compliment the lovely chest of drawers in that space. The apartment has everything you require to make your stay comfortable. It is very quiet and perfect for a good night's sleep, although it does get quite hot. We had to sleep with the fan on. It is a long walk from the station. We took longer than the twenty minutes suggested. Young people may find it easier. I can't imagine three people sharing the small space. After a long flight from Australia we were pretty exhausted. As a result, I would have liked photographic instructions when setting up the pocket wifi as I had never used one before. Initially I wasn't sure which was the password and got very frustrated. I would have liked better pillows. Also a second body/hand wash, instead of sharing one lot between the shower and hand basin as you couldn't reach into the shower if you had forgotten to change it. Often the shower floor was still wet. Apart from that I would thoroughly recommend Sakura. Nearby is an excellent Family Mart with plentiful outdoor seating. Opposite is Naan Indian Nepalese Cafe with great curries and very welcoming staff.

This apartment is clean and neat with lots of amenities. It is a good size for Tokyo, a little cozy for 3 adults, but perfect for 2! We easily walked to the station each day and there was also buses close to home. We found a lot of brochures and some books of local attractions, and felt quite comfortable. Thank you to our kind hosts.

The apartment is well situated with plenty of local eateries, close to local bus to main station. The area is very quiet. As expected the apartment is compact, very clean with excellent facilities. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and Brett was very responsive to any questions we had. We have already recommended apartment to friends, need we say more. David and Pauline from Australia

Great little place with everything you need. We got to cook and do a load of washing which was nice. Difficult to find on foot! Use a taxi to help you at the start like Brett suggests. 15-20 min walk to main train/metro station. Felt we did a lot of walking to and from train station! Great Indian restaurant only 2min walk away. Didn't get to meet Brett as he just had surgery but he has great explanations on anything and will reply to any question quickly.
